So a guy on another forum mentioned a tactic where i could deep strike a group of broadsides with a librarian and a shas'el and i though this was a pretty awesome idea.
If i take a broadside team kitted out with twin linked plasma multi trackers and sheild drones, a shas'el with plasma, slow and purposeful and some shield drones then a librarian with the mastery level 2 upgrade gate of infinity and null zone.
There would be a decent amount of anti Teq fire-power and forcing rerolls of invuns the squad would get tetra support so they can reroll scatter for deepstrike and increase their bs and negate covers.
Also i could add in some helios suits that will deep strike in to take advantage of the nullzone Possibly a comms relay on a ADL so they all come down turn 2.
The down side to this is points it would require a heavy investment of about 300 for the broadsides 120 ish for the shas'el and 150 for the librarian.
What do you guys think?

no one expects broadsides in their face, because if it happens, they get to kill them STUPIDLY fast. If you scoot forward with broadsides, your giving your opponent a present.
You can do the same thing without having to bring the broadsides along; they reach 72'' after all

What would you use it for? In my experience there are few board layouts that would need this kind of maneuverability to get decent LoS to primary targets. The benefit would then be getting to drop the unit into the side or rear arcs of a vehicle to make sure you kill it. However given that railguns are reasonably adept at punching throguh even the front armour of heavy tanks (especially a squad of 3 of them) one might question the additional points spend

There's nothing I love more than getting to assault a unit of Broadsides on T2 when they can't Overwatch me. This might be one of the worst ideas in history.

I would advise not to do this, you don't want your tank hunting broadsides anywhere near the enemy. All they have to do is assault them and there null and void for a few turns. They belong way at the other end of the board shooting the gak out of whatever tank or terminators they can see. Now a crisis suit or a stealth team in the opponents backfield w/ said Libby w/ tetra support might not be a bad idea. Good harassment unit, next turn you pop somewhere else. Nice to threaten an objective or pull an enemy off an objective. The stealth's would be hard to hit. I'd go that route maybe. Best of luck!!

What might be a much better idea is to take the same librarian, but use him to deep strike turn ~3 as the enemy has closed in and is about to assault. Then pick them up and drop them on the other side of the table, safely out of assault range.

As opposed to failing the turn 2 reserve roll 1/3 of the time and losing out on 2 turns of broadsides shooting?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

I run my broadsides with plasmas and multi trackers but the main pupose of this is to deter others from a DS near me (or blow them away if they do). As others have said people want to be close to BS but with this set up the closer they are, the more it hurts.

Cool, now I don't have to move to get my plasma and melta in range of your broadsides.

But I wouldnt drop my broadsides into an area that they have good chance of being killed I'm not saying to be needlessly reckless with the deepstrike. Plus it can always be used defensively units Geting to close, gate away I think it adds tactical options and isn't a huge point sink as I run my broadsides with plasma anyway and my shasel the same other than the ASS and with a missilepod. So its just the Libby prob a small squad of scouts I need to fit in.
Plus gate can be used to get out of combat its not easy to kill 3 brosdsides with 4 shield drones a shasel and a librarian with anything less than a capable cc unit which I would make sure is ether dead or out of range.

The broadside unit would be getting in quite a few amount of low AP hits at a fairly decent price. Topping it off with a lot of invulnerable saves and 2+ armor on multiwound models can keep them going for a bit. I'd definately say it sounds fun and something to try out.
And really I think you'd want the unit to get charged. A.S.S. gives them Slow and Purposeful for their shooting phase only, meaning you can overwatch all those anti TEQ shots on twin-linked Broadsides. My only suggestion would be to bring a second Shas'el as your Warlord so you're not offering it up so easily.

Good idea with the second shas'el. Also where does it say a.s.s only makes SaP in the shooting phase awsome if it does just can't find where it says that.

I think it's worth a shot just to see how it performs. After all, chaos has been deep striking obliterators for a long time, this broadside unit is more flexible, can escape from tar pits/scary cc with gate and has over twice the wounds of the oblits.

It's under the A.S.S. I believe it's worded as if the unit decides to use the A.S.S. during your turn then it gains the slow and purposeful rule until the end of the turn.
It's something that is often overlooked, but does indeed allow you an overwatch shot.

Quick question, does relentless transfer over like a couple other usr? or was it model based (dont has books on me)
but if it does the shas'el would be all that is needed to keep them firing.

Relentless does not benefit the whole unit.
The tactic is sound, I believe I heard something of it when 6th ed first came out, although at the time people were thinking more basic (Librarian attached to broadsides jumps them all over the board so they can't be assaulted)
Though, correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the unit have to start on the board in order to use Gate? Not a huge difference, it just means you can't deep strike wherever you want, just within 24" of your starting point. This would make it very difficult to target backfield units without exposing the broadsides to dedicated assault units.
It just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through to grant limited deep strike to a unit that really doesnt need to go anywhere. If you Really want to plant low AP weapons in your opponent's face take helios. A full team with shield drones runs 220ish points, and even a single markerlight hit on the target (+1 BS) gets them 88% of the broadsides' accuracy. They will also be able to do a full deep strike, with a JSJ assault move to get some distance on whatever assaulty units are nearby.

I though he wanted to jump them danger close to negate los/cover, and not kite enemies as they get close,
but the problems are:
1 they have to start on board
2, you can only have 1 slot option per suit except the team leader so you will ether not shoot your plasma or snap your rail which is bad.
at those point costs, (for danger close ap 1-2) helios work much better imo

For the price difference you're getting a 2+ save, vice 3+
Twin-linked weapons vice BS3/4
You're getting 3 shots at 12", 2 at 24", and 1 at 72"; Helios only gets 3 at 12" and 1 at 24"
I think it's honestly a toss up. I'd say the Broadsides would be a bigger threat no matter where they are on the table, and harder for your opponent to outrun. While with the Helios he just has to try and get 18.1" away to avoid the extra shots. Throwing on the 2+ save and it takes serious anti armor weaponry to deal with them.

I don't beleave having to start the turn on the board is a bad thing I wouodnt want to loose a turn of railgun fire anyway, I know 24" means I can't deep strike them where I want but its not to bad the unit deals some serious damage, at 12" 8 plasma shots 3 railguns 1 fusion the unit I would run is.
Librarian 150
-gate
-nullzone
-ml 2
Shas'el 102
-Pasma
-fusion
-A.s.s
-hw multi tracker
-hw target lock
3 Xv88 308
- 3x multi tracker ( 1 hw)
- 3x tl plasma
-team leader
-targeting array
-bsf
-2 sheild drones
-target lock
Quite the shooty deathstar they are geared for versatility have come down ans kill 3 diff tanks if needed.
I run a min of 3 tetra in my lists so they will be hiring at bs5 vs anyone I want dead.
