Yes so my question(s) is can you use a offensive spell in melee? I'm sure you can use non-offensive spells, but what about ranged spells? May you shoot them if you don't have gunfighter?

Also can you move and cast spells as well as cast spells then move? Same deal with other stuff, can you shoot/attack and then move?

Finally can you attack your own models when you are not forced to?

Thanks guys!

1) Yep, you can use any spell while in melee, targeting any legal target.

2) Yes, you can cast spells at any time during your activation as long as you don't interrupt your movement (Warcasters and Warlocks, anyway. If you're just a mook with Magic Ability, you still have to do it as a special action).

3) Yes, you can attack your own models.

Thank you, I seem to have trouble reading the WM rulebook.

You cannot Shoot with a Ranged Attack and Move unless you have Bushwhack

You can use Spells than move, even if the spell is targetting an enemy

You want to be very careful, and not call using Offensive Spells as "Shooting"

Spells are magic attacks, not ranged attacks. They can be used in melee just fine. When a model targets something it is currently engaged with, it doesn't even suffer the -4 to hit penalty, and it can cast spells targetting at models it is not engaged with as well. Check the last bullet on magic attacks on p. 80 of HORDES: Primal MkII if you got a copy, or somewhere in the same area in the WARMACHINE: Prime MkII book.

Abilities that can be used "at any time during a model's activation" can be used pretty much as said, as long as it doesn't interupt a model's movement or attack sequence. Spells for warlocks and warcasters are anytime abilities, and so can be used before a model moves, after it moves, before it makes attacks, or after it makes attacks. But you can't move 3", cast a spell and finsihnfinsih your movement normally. You also cannot declare an attack, roll to hit, cast a spell, then roll damage. Once you commit to one of those things, you have to do it through before getting another option to spellcast.

Finally, barring special rules (namely, Bushwack) activations go movement then action. If you forfeit your movement, that's it.

There's no restrictions on targetting your own models. It's a time-honored Cryx and Circle tactic even.

And stuff.

Does 1 still qualify for mooks with magic ability?
