I don't like this 3" grid thing, or the fact that the delux mouse mat is only 2x2. You need 6 of the damned things to make up a 4x6 table and of course they only sell them in 3's and 5's. Can't just sell a 6 pack, have to sell them in a way that makes us buy 2.

If this is anything like the Sedition Wars/Dreadball Kickstarters, I can see at least 3 or 4 people at my gaming club getting the stuff for this game - it will then be just a simple matter to put our stuff together for bigger games, I'm hoping.
Also the possibility that one person will probably go mental and buy far more stuff than they could possibly ever use for just themselves, and then become a philanthropist
Flicked through the rules briefly and I was a little disappointed. IGOUGO is a turn off for me, and this TLOS meets board game grid idea seems like an attempt to combine the best of both worlds, however not sure it works for me.
Perhaps in practice it's great, but just now I'm not sure.

Exactly. Because adding the $20 for the single mat to the price of the 3 or 5 pack is just so damned hard to figure out. Lord forbid you be forced to do so. Mantic should have obviously created every combination of package so that you could avoid the challenge of adding two numbers together.

It's not a question of math is hard, merely that they've given odd numbers, so you cannot fill in a grid without the extra expense of just one map add on, i.e 4 or 6.

I think the grenade rules are my favourite part, actually having models blown off their square in a random direction is loads of fun.
I think I flicked through it well enough without playing it, which I'll try tomorrow. Interrupts and overwatch don't stop the game being igougo, but at least it's a point of contention/discussion for future updates according to the blog. The grenade rules do look fun.

But the majority of backers are getting 1 free mat anyway, so for them there's no extra expense.
Offering the bundles in 4 or 6 would leave most people with 1 mat left over not doing anything.
Basically, yes. But the sides can interrupt each other during the turns, so it might feel more like an AA system.

The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

Of course maths is hard is the logical response.
I think people fail to realize that they already get one mat for free, so the add-ons are structured to go with that; ie one free + 3 pack = 4x4, one free +5 pack = 6x4. Only is an issue if you want more then one table's worth or if you have multiple people in on a single pledge wanting them.

Actually the logical response is to order the single mat and the set of 3 or 5 to make what you want... Inability or unwillingness to do so is going to seem silly to a lot of folks, including myself. If you want 4, you buy 4. If you want 6, you buy six. Mantic easily allows this. I can't see how someone has an issue with it.

No, math is hard is the comical response. Quoting an old Barbie doll was a bit of the give-away there.
Adding in pledges for a 4 or 6 mat pack would leave them with 5 options to worry about instead of 3, which probably means more hassle when it comes time to pack everything up. They could drop the 3 and 5 packs, sure, but that's bad for Strike Force and above. Seeing as roughly 84% of pledges are Strike Force or above (as of a day or so ago when I checked,) it does seem to make sense to focus on what'll be convenient for them. If you assume that Strike Force and above pledgers are more likely to pay for add-ons, then it makes even more sense.
The biggest savings you get from a mat-pack is the 5-pack versus the single ($18/mat vs $20/mat). So if they added in a 6-mat pack you'd be looking at spending $108 instead of $110. It's really not that big of a deal.
That said, and I've said this before, they could have explained why they chose the size of the packs a little better. It's not immediately obvious why you would want 5 mats; it's not terribly difficult to see it, but if you're trying to sell something it's probably better to spend a couple sentences explaining things.
Finally, I don't know why, but seeing 'maths' makes me want to kick a puppy. Shortening statistics to stats doesn't bother me, but I'm so used to shortening mathematics to math, seeing 'maths' takes five seconds off my life every time I see it.
The whole "Math is Hard" meme is really annoying, and also probably partially to blame for why we no longer have armor save modifiers in 40K (though strangely enough we do still have them in WFB - Math is Less Hard for Fantasy Fans?) and instead have the easier but far less fun AP system...
Wahey, that’s the Helfather in - thank you so much!
The Helfather is now available to add-on to your pledge for $8
The Deadzone Rulebook
The Deadzone Rulebook is being spec’d as an 80 page full colour book that contains all the rules you need to play Deadzone.
It’ll contain rules for moving, shooting, line of sight and melee as well as how models interact with the 3D scenery and cover. With exciting and solid core mechanics (and you already have the Alpha Rules to read!) the rulebook will also then include cool stuff like:
- Grenades
- Experience
- Abilities
- Squad progression
Experience, Squad progression and the cool abilities allow you to transform a standard pick-up game into a series of linked games where your squad builds in power across the campaign. You'll get to know every one of your squadmates as you form your own history - we've already got a story in the office about the Assault Enforcer who blew himself up trying to throw a grenade (to be fair, he succeeded in killing a 3rd Gen, injuring another and was only caught in the blast radius!)
Perfect for playing with your mates or at the club!
Of course, there will be other ways to play Deadzone as well, which we hope to fund during the course of the Kickstarter. Hence our next stretch goal…
$325,000 – Nexus Psi Digital Campaign
We will write the Nexus Psi Campaign Pack and include a digital copy in every pledge of Recon ($100) and higher. Not only that but we will build the story by adding in additional scenarios to the pack with every 500 backers we get!
That means the more friends you introduce to the campaign, the richer the story will be and the more immersive it becomes.
But what is the Nexus Campaign Pack? Well, it's:
- An all-new way of playing Deadzone, supplementing the main rulebook with story-driven scenarios, where the Enforcers seek to exterminate the Plague and the many squabbling factions battling over the planet’s precious resources.
- Built around the contents of your pledge, allowing you to use everything you get on the gaming table.
- A way of enriching the background: play through the Containment Protocol on Nexus Psi, a distant planet on the outer fringes.
- Perfect for a weekend's gaming when you want something different from a standard pick-up game!
Weekend Stretch Goal Bonanza!
The question we get asked most when running a Kickstarter campaign is What’s next?!
Well, this weekend we’re going on a stretch goal bonanza… details coming later today!
Don’t you go anywhere!

I am hoping the campaign moves in more exciting ways after than 325k goal.
It looks like they're going to add one scenario to the basic four scenario campaign for each 500 backers this gets. So, if we look at yesterday's mark of 80 new backers, that's a scenario every six days or so, or five more by the end for a nine scenario campaign.
I am a little underwhelmed by this. The Robotech KS is also doing backer stretch goals, but actually upgrading add-ons or game pieces every 200 backers. So a campaign scenario every 500 backers to be delivered with wave two is a little bit of a letdown. I know we've got 29 more days to go, not trying to harsh anyone's buzz here, just being a sad panda. Every 500 backers would seem to call for a more worthy goal, especially seeing as their most successful KS, DB, only had 2539.....it really seems like they're throwing us a bone only because Robotech brought out this new type of stretch goal, and is doing it well. To each their own, though.

I'm really tempted to sell off my Sedition wars stuff, and just get in at the 40 dollar mark to get an Enforcer set, and then just add a Marauder set for the $35. It looks like it would be more than enough to play games of a good size, especially with the digital rulebook that would come with the original pledge. Sure, I wouldn't get the official board or terrain, but a gridded board is stupidly easy to make, and I've got plenty of terrain that will fit the grid, or have the experience to make it.
Grr.....so tempting.......
"By this point I'm convinced 100% that every single race in the 40k universe have somehow tapped into the ork ability to just have their tech work because they think it should."
So I played two games last night and the Enforcers won both. Been talking on the KS forums, and the other guy I'm talking with says the Enforcers won his games as well. Has anyone played a game where the plague won? Not saying its unbalanced, as two games is hardly enough info, just wondering what others have found so far.
After 30 days, DZ has 2000 after 1 week. I expect 5000 to be the final number particularly when they release the scenery pledge level and add-ons on wednesday.

plague won in mine, those 2nd gens are nasty pieces of work.
^ Yeah, 5000 backers, $300 average pledge and $1.5 mil total seems to be the most likely outcome.
Will be interesting to see what effect this has on the freebies, I'm wondering what Mantic's endgame plan for this is for the inevitable $500k or so of funding that will hit in the last 3 days.
Corp, Veer-myn and Zz'or are out (and possibly reserved for future expansions), and it won't take long to fill out the Forgefather and Asterian factions + some light mechs for all factions. What happens after that is where it starts to get interesting.

I like that Mantic are adding stretch goals to the add on packs as well. To start with the Enforcer starter set was a bit naff but now I am glad I added it, 8 troopers, the captain and a couple of drones is now pretty good value, especially if they keep improving it!
True. After some of the stretch goals being met, even pledging for a single faction box with the $40 "Scout" deal will get you a good amount of figures for your money, when most KS campaigns require you to buy into the entire game for the benefits. That is really cool for us that can't justify 150 dollars for the "sweet spot" deals lately.

I imagine we're close to finished the stretches for the first 4 factions. Looks like we're at one more round with the newest stretch, and maybe one more, but new races can't be far off.

Or, the third option, that you have no real interest in the game and just want to pledge enough to purchase a few of the specific add-ons (the odd mini, mouse mats, some terrain). Of course I realise I'm in the tiny tiny minority in this respect, but still.

I'd imagine they will stick with the 1 miniature faction specific at $7,500 intervals now clever as it's actually gone up from 4 minis for $25k to 4 for $30k but because it's broken down it's not so noticeable. We should see a second Sorok for Rebs, I suspect another 3rd Gen with HMG as the artwork on the last update is different and for Marauders not sure maybe another Commando sculpt or the alt Ripper Suit that I think is already done anyway.
