Saw your post and went on GWs website and looked, Im pretty unimpressed. I was hoping for something cool enough to pull me into buying tau but didnt see anything I really liked.
Its kind of cool they are starting to sell sets of armies, but the price tag is insane.

Pretty much all the stuff we have known about for a week now...nothing spectacular. I am particularly unimpressed by the new broadsides...they are having an identity crisis for sure...they obviously can't figure out if they are heavy artillery or snipers.
The flier is meh, especially the fighter variant. The fire warrior commander is also uninspiring. his pose doesn't make any sense and his expression is derpy.
ThE tyranid launch bundle is a joke...$880? Thanks, ill go to ebay and get an army worth having...three carnifexes and four warrior broods? Yeah, super useful.

Buy nothing until you've read the codex. I'm astounded that GW actually manages to sell large numbers of models to people who have no idea how the units actually work.

Keep in mind many people either play casual or narrative games, or don't even play the game at all, just paint and army build. Those people probably won't care what the rules are, they will just care that the models look cool.

Because some people buy them for collecting/painting/modelling, where their hobby doesn't begin and end with mathhammer...?

Fireknives and two new special characters that we know of. It looks like some units also had major changes as well. Pathfinders have these crazy drones and what appears to be some super awesome Ion Rifles. Broadsides get some sort of special missile array. For some reason hammer heads can get these weird giant drones.

Ok just to get my opinion out there...
New command suits
It seems to me that the new suits don't share the old piece of body armor that covered both Torso and lower body. I'm impartial on this. To be honest I think I still prefer the "old" Crisis suits. The new command one's look somewhat too ... anime mech for me? I can't put it in words. Doesn't matter though, still really cool and more agile looking.
Riptide Suit
Same as the command suits, but still really friggin cool, at least from what the pictures show. Not sure how it'll look on the table, but as of now, pretty sweet!
Pathfinders
Now finally affordable and purchasable as a whole team. Unless I'm mistaken on that point, that's a step forward.
Bomber/Flyer
Not at all what I had expected, but still really cool. IMHO it captures that "drone" vibe that the Tau have and that 40k was somewhat missing.
EDIT: Just noticed the little cockpit/pilot glass thingy on the flyer, which I find to look completely out of place. It's like mixing a modern Drone with a WWII bomber. If I should get one, I'm probably leaving that part in the box...
Broadsides
Same change as with the Riptide and other new suits. Having them "hold" the Railgun looks pretty sweet compared to the shoulder mounted, but the rocket Broadside just looks kinda absurd imho. I mean, rocket hands and rockets on the shoulder? That's 3 sets of missile launchers right there. A bit too much for me from an aesthetic point of view.
Other than that, there's not much new except for some special characters I think.
All in all I guess it could have been different or better, but I think they did a pretty good job. Then again It's 5 am and I haven't slept in ever, so I might change my opinion once I'm not half dead...

Just ordered my stuff too, a few riptides, a couple fliers and some pathfinders, and a codex of course.
May wait for the broadsides, but I have a idea to make the missile armed one a bit better looking, maybe fit the weapon packs across its back/shoulders, and leave the hands free...will have to see what options are allowed.
these are the first models I have actually looked forward to building, the riptides will be fun to convert as well.
On the other models.
Command suit is nice, but due to finecast I will be putting that one down the list of to get.
Farsight, nice model, but never liked the character, so no go there.
Hope this is just the first wave for the codex.

I can't believe nobody noticed the new railgun broadside is basically an 8 bit guitar.
The rocket broadside should just have a crotch rocket already to add to the 50 bajillion missiles he already has. Also the giant missile on his back looks like a giant d*ck.
The broadsides in general from the rear look like they're powered by a gas powered pull motor like a weed-wacker or lawn-mower and the huge power core in the back may as well have flashing lights that scream 'SHOOT ME HERE STUPID!!!'.
The action pose for the new crisis suit commander looks like he should probably be positioned upright (he'll probably fall 50 bajillion times).
The new riptide model (surprised they didn't call it the XV-888) has a tiny head to the extent you imagine it's a midget's head on a giant's body with a little midget voice. I was also not particularly thrilled by the loadout.
The new drones might get some getting used to.
The new pathfinder set is excellent.
The lack of new auxiliary units is depressing.
The new bomber kit looks stupid.
The new characters are kind of fun.
I am somewhat interested in the new character that seems to be a tau commander outside of a suit. Not sure on abilities or if it's mostly to keep points low but i'm guessing abilities might be different.
--------------
So this is what i take away from this. The new monstrous creature sized crisis suit is cool but looks awkward as most of the stuff. The pathfinder teams are excellent looking and have like 3 special weapons each for like 35 USD which seems good. The prices esp. for stuff like the riptide is insanely high. Also somebody needs to make a rock band with the new broadside railgun. Also 100 USD for a limited edition tau codex. GW wtf! They'll probably make all codexes for re-releases only be limited edition so people pay the insane prices. I can't even buy anything for the most part.
I'm actually disappointed with this release. I've checked out forge world's stuff with the XV-9 and practically begged for this. I was hoping tau would be a little ridiculous but more sleek. Instead of sleek we got blocky to the extent it may as well be rendered by the people that made tetris or something. Maybe i'm just not into tau. I will admit the idea of the riptide is cool but feels poorly executed with the tiny head a weird gear. Maybe tau just isn't for me even if the pathfinders look cool and a new monstrous creature sized battle suit is pretty awesome.
End rant.

Damn, those almost look good enough for me to consider breaking my moratorium on GW (their new NA trade policy broke the camel's back enough for me to start voting with my wallet). However, the interesting thing is that their price structure for a bunch of things doesn't look... horrible actually. The Crisis Suit bundle is basically a recut that saves you $10 bucks compared to the old cost, and if the Riptide ends up being close to a warmahordes colossal/gargantuan in size then it is actually priced according to the market. The Pathfinder teams also look like they might be fair at 40. The only things that are a tad expensive are the flier (although again this depends on its size) and the new Broadside. The finecast characters are also expensive, but that largely goes without saying.
As for the models themselves, I really like the new 'big' suits. The Riptide and the Broadside both look amazing. The Pathfinders and the flier both look decent. I really like the look of the new Farsight, and with the exception of the head I like the new fire warrior HQ (seriously, it is one of the worst faces I've seen on a model). I'm also not crazy on darkstrider or the tank upgrade guy (seriously, does EVERY faction need an upgrade character you stick in a tank?), but again I think that mostly stems from the fact that despite the fact that they claim to sculpt the best models in gaming, nobody at GW knows how to scuplt a decent facial expression anymore. Overall, I label this as a temptation although I am most likely to stick to Warmachine until GW makes some policy changes.

I refuse to preorder anything. I've never had a problem getting what I want on release day. I've never felt like giving someone money with the promise of a product later.
I will however be picking up the skyshark regardless of tabletop performance, it just looks too cool and the price isn't outrageous. The riptide is just too expensive to buy just because, so its rules need to be competitively playable.
And I know I'm being cheap, but I can't see any reason to buy the tank commander guy since he would be easily convertible with what already exists. Yeah the armor wont look exactly the same, but if you only have one guy showing on the 2-3 railheads in the army it won't be difficult to pick out which one has the commander.
