All things being said, though, I like the majority of the models, just not the prices. The Pathfinder box, however, both looks very cool and is a pretty decent price.
There is absolutely no way anyone can convince me of a reason for a Broadside, for instance, to cost more than a SM Dreadnought. None.

Oh, totally. It's also an easy, good way of scaring newbies about what an army is going to cost them in the end if they want to get into the game.
Because there are no other hobbies that cost hundreds of pounds/dollars/whatever in a year?

I think the broadsides in the sniper position just look silly, for a weapon with that kind of power i think it should be more of a TF2 Heavy kind of look, besides why are they aiming down the sights when they have automatic aimers in their helmets?

You mean on the new models? They look pretty....heavy to me. Certainly not a sniper position, the closest to that they come is maybe the slight crouch look of the legs (which can be attributed to the large weight of the railgun)

I'm just blown away be the extreme cost of the limited edition codex. Pay the double the price for a translucent plastic sleeve and a different cover.
Does it come with anything else? Maybe a complimentary blow job? Maybe if the limited edition codex was 20$ more, but also came with some kind of nice leather case and Tau dice or something similar, it'd be worth it. But double the price for a plastic sleeve and different cover is positively absurd.

I gotta say, that's probably the best part about it. I for one actually like the look of the Fireblade, depending on the rules, I might kitbash him and creed or something similar, seems like the two kits are similar in pose/details.

Don't worry. Once the new SM codex arrives GW will fix this by raising the price of Dreadnoughts!

I think the new stuff is great. Like a few others said, I am waiting to see the new rules before I spend a bunch of money only to find out that a unit has been nerfed with new rules. I already have 50 genestealers sitting on the shelf. I don't need all the models to be tournament winners, but they need to at least have a chance to carry their own weight.
Prices are what they are. It's a hobby. I don't complain about the prices. If they are are too expensive, I don't buy them. If enough don't buy GW will either quick selling or lower the price.

Dude! New stuff from GW that has a demand! its all new and cool looking! The price is even cooler (for us)!
Yup.
I'll probably buy one for authenticity as well as accurate size knowledge but i intend to scratchbuild mine out of my old broadsides. I would just slap them on a bigger base, but it looks like theyre considerably larger not just a bigger base. Cant use older models if the new one has such a drastic modelling size change. Hell people complain about the old necron wraiths being used which are MINUTELY smaller than the new ones (so like i care if you field them).

Look at the 360 that they have on the website, if you look at it from the front it looks kinda funky, almost like it's snap shooting or something
Edit: ok the 360 is bad, saw a different model from a different angle, looks fine, my bad

Uhh... it's a similarly-sized model on the same size of base, it comes with many more options and extra bitz, including two additional drone models, and it only costs like 4 dollars more?

Personally, I'm more blown away by people still buying it.
Also, deliberate pun in the use of blown away and later reference to blow jobs?

Don't doubt that at all. Been expecting it for awhile actually.

Nope, still not convinced it should be 50 dollars. But I don't think the SM Dreads should be over $35-$40, either, or the new Firewarrior character be priced at more than $15. There's a point when an expensive hobby becomes a freakishly expensive hobby. One of the new Broadsides costing more than a Forgeworld one is that point.

what was the cost of the old broadside anyway? i never looked, mine are off Ebay lol
And yea i agree theres a point where an expensive hobby becomes freakishly expensive. Some models i can understand because theyre tiny and have good detail, others....wtf GW seriously.
There are models that have hardly any more detail than your random kid's modeling kit, and cost 2-3x. You cant tell me that the difference between GW plastic and cheap modeling plastic is that big to warrent such a cost increase.

I wish they'd at least use a half-decent color scheme... IT's kind of hard to judge if a model is good when you keep thinking "that's painted so ugly".

I like the rocket broadside model, just so many rockets everywhere. Its like Michael bays perfect idea of a robot. I'm just surprised its face didn't shoot rockets too.
Although to be honest i was expecting a lot more from the tau. Was expecting a full re-release of everything total update instead of a few new battlesuits but aw well still not as bad as the new necrons (Curse you space tomb kingssss!!!)
Does anyone know when they will be hitting shelves? had a hard time finding the date.

Personally im not a fan of the Riptide in general but the head is a major down point. I like the idea of the Fireblade but I wasn't aware that the Fire Caste uses machete's for their bonding rituals. I like the Broadsides though I'm not a fan of the rail rifle arms, nor am I a fan of the commander model. I'm dissapointed that there aren't any new allies but I do really like the Pathfinders. All in all not worth dusting off my cadre

I'm actually really disappointed when I started looking into what is rumored for the new Tau Codex. The biggest issue is the Troops section with only two units available. Tau have been difficult to use for me because I have trouble justifying bringing more than minimum troops and I was hoping for atleast a bit of variety. I was hoping that I could unlock units as troops, such as bringing an XV-8 Commander would unlock Stealth suits, but apparently we aren't getting that. So I'm expecting to keep the same old expensive and useless troops that we currently have.
It's also disappoint that we are only getting three really new units. Riptide, the Fighter/bomber, and the HQ fireblade. The only issue they seemed to address was the lack of decent FA units.
|
I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

On a modeling note I'm thinking about getting one of the new Broadsides and kit bashing it with a traditional Crysis to make a more heavily armored Shas'o. I'm also kind of excited in that I just realized that the pathfinders come with holstered and loose pulse pistols which is going to be great for my battlesuit pilot I'm making!
