i'm an avid tau player and as soon as i heard about the new tau I was straight onto GW to check them, but is the new limited edition worth the extra £30 all it says is "In addition there are illustrations of various battlesuits" is that it? or is there more?

Considering no one would have recieved any copies of these, probably should see what was commented about the Chaos limited editions amd the BRB limited edition.

Most likely, its worth it if you want it.

As with any of the current crop of Limited Editions, it's worth it if you're happy paying a bunch of extra money for a slightly prettier version of the same book everyone else will have.

Is it worth it to pay trough your nose, just to get a few "pretty" pictures? I would say no. If i want to look at pretty battlesuits then i have a look at coolminiornot, or one of the other miniature sites.
Compared to some of the pro painters around the 'Eavy Metal team isn't that great.
If you are some kind of collector who enjoys having something that others don't have and if you don't care about the money, well, then it might be worth it

No matter how many different ways I try to read the description of the LE codex, I just can't see how anybody would justify paying twice as much for it.
An extra 50$ for a plastic cover?? I really wish that NOBODY would buy it. Send a message to GW that they need to stop pulling this kind of gak. A LE codex is fine, but either give the buyer something worth the extra money, or only charge a little bit more.

A "plastic" slip cover and different cover art.

Codex: Tau Empire Limited Edition

Codex: Tau Empire Regular Edition

By and large, it's "not worth it"...unless you really like it. There's no reason to get bent out of shape over it or try to start a boycott over it, as there is nobody forcing you to buy it.

Just buy a regular codex from an independent, get yourself 10-25% off, and hit GW in the pocket, everyone wins!

Then use the money you've saved from not paying full price and not buying the LE, buy more models, again from an independent to get a discount, everyone wins again!

Except GW, GW don't deserve to win.

I really like the limited edition art... if they made a poster of it, I would buy it... but not worth shelling out x2 the $

BTW: I've seen some with a Broadside on it and some with a Riptide on it... one front the other back?

God, people are such idiots....

Anyway never under any circumstances buy the "limited edition" Codex's. They're pure scams. Different cover and some kind of cheap frivolous addition (plastic slip cover, felt bookmark) for double the price. Regular codex's are overpriced enough as it is.

Honestly, I can't think of a real reason for it to be worth double the cost of the normal codex. Its just downright obscene for what you actually get. Then again, value is subjective and some people may really love Tau. I personally find it absurd how expensive it is for how little extra you get.

I have the Chaos Daemons LE codex (Tzeentch) because I would only play a Tzeentch Daemons army and I will be adding them as allies (or vice versa) with my Chaos Space Marines.

The only other LE codex I would buy is the Black Templars one (if ever available) because that's my primary army.

I can't say yes or no to you. It's a Want versus Need thing. I am happy with my Chaos Daemon LE book, though.

It's obviously not worth it, but then again, with items like this they have proved that some of the people in this hobby will literally buy anything, for virtually any price. Unfortunately they use that to justify every aspect of their business lately.

When they came out with the hardcover books I thought they were over priced for something that was just trying to look pretty.

Now they are selling what is essentially the same thing but twice the cost.

I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."

"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

If you want it, it's worth it.

If you could live with just the normal Codex, get that.

But don't try and second guess if it will go up in value, because most likely it won't.

If it is just a different cover then it's probably not worth it. You're really just paying twice the price for a quick gloat to your mates that you got the expensive version. So you should think how they would react. Will they think it's cool or will they mock because you spent twice as much cash?

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I think the Limited Edition codices are badly named, they are Collector Editions, for people who like to say "Hey, look at my codex, it's better than yours." Yes, they're overpriced, but if you love the army it's for, then buy it. I know that I will be buying the LE C:SM, I'm a die hard UM fan and I want the codex for my collection.
If you want a LE codex, buy it, it's not stupid, it's a choice.

Seems to me that only someone with the most disposable of incomes would rather spend extra money to buy a book with a different cover to gloat about, over buying more models to play the game with. I dunno, it just seems "weird" to me.

Or they don't care about gloating and just want a fancey book for their favorite army.

How about you dial back the hostility and name-calling?

Uh, hostility? Name Calling? That's....not what I was doing. At least not anymore than anyone else in the thread. If anything, you are calling me to task out of everyone else, for stating my opinion, though I never aimed anything at anyone specific. That's actually you seeming hostile to me.

They're not pure scams. They're not 50% scams. They're not even slightly scams.

GW is very honest with what you're getting, and there are no hidden or extra costs to make it a scam.

It's a more "artsy" codex that costs more money. If you want a more artsy codex, then its worth it. I don't think this would make someone an idiot.
