This includes games 1313 (Which I personally didnt give a damn about) and the XBox arcade game First Assault that IF it was successful, would have been the start of Battlefront 3.

I wasn't really looking forward to 1313, but First Assault looked awesome. Hopefully a different developer will pick it up.

I guess, what's really changing? We haven't seen much on the SW front for a while other than two licensed games: SW Lego and SWTOR. So 1313 is never happening. I've kind of had that feeling since before Disney bought LucasFilm.

Hmmh, in a way, Manchu is reflecting my own personal feelings on the matter - at least as far as my expectations on gaming are concerned.

1313 may have been nice, but I can't say I've really anticipated it - not after TFU. On the other hand, it could have rekindled my interest in the studio. The concept art looked rather nice.

Oh well. As The Escapist writes, it's still sad to see them go, even though they didn't do much in the past years.
I wonder what this will mean for future games. There is a slim possibility that extended licensing (what the remainder of LucasArts is supposedly to do) could actually result in a higher volume of more interesting games produced by different external studios ... but I'm not gonna hold my breath for now.

Don't get me wrong, I was looking forward to 1313. But it was moving at a snail's pace and it just seemed to me that it wasn't going to happen -- even if I wanted it to! A non-Jedi "dark times" game could be great.

These are the guys who brought us Fracture, and that game was awesome.

Yep, that's why I was cautiously intrigued, so to say.
It could have still sucked because it was made too heroic or something. What prevented me from TFU wasn't that it was about a Force-user, but that the "level of epic" was just too high for my tastes. I prefer characters who are somewhat more down to earth, as they seem to fit in better with their respective setting.

Well, I'll still get my share of "gritty Star Wars" from the new Legacy comics, I guess. Ania makes a great scoundrel.

Meh. Life goes on? Never really felt all that excited for 1313 or First Assault and I haven't played a Lucas Arts game in years (think the last one was Force Unleashed and I didn't even like it).

Basically anything that isn't "EPISODE 7! EPISODE 7! EPISODE 7!" is being killed off, as apparently Disney thinks that it's impossible to concentrate on more than one project at a time.

This is what killed Clone Wars, and now it's claimed LucasArts.

I am a little disappointed but surprised as well. LucasArts has a much better track record in games then Disney for certain. I still have been waiting for years now for a new X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter or even a Rouge Squadron game. My joystick has been getting very lonely next to my computer for a long time now.

TIE Fighter and Star Wars: Dark Forces were probably the first 2 'proper' computer games I ever played. The sequel, Jedi Knight is probably still one of my favourite computer games of all time. The story, even the music was like a whole extra film and certainly was more, in my mind, the spirit of Star Wars than The Phantom Menace, released years later.

And, I'm sure Guybrush Threepwood, Sam and Max will want their own salutes as well!

Lucas Arts was a relic of the past. They were a shining diamond in the 90s but couldn't meet the standards they set themselves nowadays and with TFR 2, they pretty much sealed their fate. Goddamn that game was an insult.

Let's be honest, Lucasarts has been dead in the water for a while now. The last truly great Star Wars video game was made by a 3rd party (Bioware) so perhaps licensing the IP out will be a good thing. All Lucasarts have done for years is release average Star Wars games that generally where poor imitations of other gaming franchises. 1313 looked impressive, but it also looked like an Uncharted clone.

I want to see Battlefront 3 as much as the next guy. Hopefully someone else will pick it up and do a better job.

Battlefront was also loaned out to poor old Pandemic so really I think the last good Star Wars game LA made themselves was Jedi Outcast and I guess Jedi Academy was, decent? EDIT: Nevermind, those games were outsourced too XD

Actually I forgot about the Lego Star Wars games, which were also pretty good. Again though they were made by a 3rd party.

Anyone remember Rebellion? Grand strategy in the SW universe. One of the best computer wargames I ever played. Using fleets, spies, sabatoge and diplomacy -- it had it all.

I was always hoping for a new version to come out.

I saw it, thought it looked cool. But I didnt want to ask my family to buy it for me. When I was old enough to actually have money to buy it myself, it wasnt on sale anymore.

Rebellion was great. It was sort of like Master of Orion, just with Stormtroopers and Star Destroyers.

I also liked that we could give all units custom names, and create fleets and army groups ... I ended up naming all my Star Destroyers, stocking them with the canon loadout of TIEs (3x T/F, 2x T/B, 1x T/I), and re-creating Vader's Death Squadron with the Executor as flagship. Just like in the movies, it was my mobile task force to be sent anywhere I suspected rebel activity.

The game was also great because it included so many units and characters from the Expanded Universe. You had the TIE Defender, Dark Troopers, Admiral Daala etc ...
Oh, and the community even came up with a card editor where you could build your own custom units and characters.

Petroglyph's Empire at War was cool as well, although compared to Rebellion it seemed less complex and did not quite catch the same 4X feeling. On the other hand, the space battles were amazing.
A hybrid between Rebellion and EaW would be killer.

In my games, I kept Vader busy on the diplomacy front. His ability grew so much that systems were begging to join the empire.

That's true, Vader was an amazing diplomat.

I actually used him the same way, keeping the fleet commanded by actual officers. Sometimes I sent the Emperor, too, but only to systems close to Coruscant, and which were already on our side. Basically, having Vader establish a basis and then using Palps to fortify them. Most of the time he chilled on his throne surrounded by a whole army of guards, though, considering what happens if the rebels actually manage to capture him.

Damn ya that does sounds cool. I always love running my armies (Rebel/Imperial, whatever) as close to the Canon set up as possible.

I thought Empire at War was cool for its navel battles but thats it. I would love for a game like Hearts of Iron (or I guess Sins of the Solar Empire which ive never played.)or a mix between the two for Star Wars. That seems like somehting Rebellion had.

You know somehting I always found dumb about EaW is you couldnt name your ships. Ya the ships were named which is cool but the system was horrible. In the campaign I could end up having 3-4 ships all named the same thing. Followed by the fact you would never see a ship's first letter starting with anything after 'D' unless you go suicidal with your ships in a skirmish. They should have just made the name random and made sure it didnt repeat a name

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

Welp, I guess that means no battlefront 3...

Otherwise I'm not to busted up, 1313 looked nice though.

You weren't going to see Battlefront 3 anyways.
The studio developing the tech associated with it went belly-up.

First Assault, an XBox live arcade game as being worked on. If it was well received the company that made it said they would make Battlefront 3.

First Assault was the other game, along with 1313 that was cancelled

Rebllion was so great. I am so sad there never was a Rebellion 2, Emprie at War was so disappointing compared to Rebellion.

I used Vader for recruting first, to get more characters fast. Always liked when Daala or Thrawn where random Force-Sensitives.

The downsisde was that you could not creat new content, just replace existing (I replaced the Defender with the Advanced, the Defender was too good).

And Multiplayer was only possible if you did not use sabotage, because the difficulty was easy what meant you could sabotage star destroyers very easy.

Grand Scale 40k and Star Wars (and Star Trek) are the games I really miss.

Rebellion was a great game. I never played the Rebels (pfft! Rebel scum!), and build massive fleets of Star Destroyers.

Naming the ships was the best part. I once called everything the USS [Something], and would replace lost ships with the same name with a number. I once had the USS Television III.

Yeah, I bought a bunch of the various combo packs for PC that were out there and most of the games were fairly meh.

Although there are a few gems in the older games. Jedi Outcast is awsome, if a little tough. Still stuck on this one level.

They could probably make a little money selling slightly updated versions of older games. Make them run a little smother on newer platforms.
