(3) how do markerlights function in this dex - ie how do they work?
1) Yup, so are sky rays, Bs 4 networked marker lights and seekers dont need a marker light to shoot anymore.
2) Its pretty much all missile pods, fire warrior shas'vres can take missile drones, they are bs 2 but its not bad for 12 points (no worse then lootas!)
3) Pretty much exactly as they they do now, except you can increase snap fire BS which is great. +1bs per hit, 2 markerlights to ignore cover, and 1 markerlight hit can fire a seeker missile "for free" (seekers are like hunter killer missiles now, markerlights just fire them without restrictions)

All the tanks are slower now that multi tracker is gone for tanks, so they will either be going 6" and firing one weapon or standing still alot more. The suits have tons of options for speed, shadowsuns warlord trait gives the unit a 3D6 thrust move.
Overall slower, its a big of a drag, its basically a fancier guard army.

According to the fluff Tau have no psykers. This is why they haven't been attacked by chaos, and don't travel the warp with astropaths.

The sunshark is 160pts
-pulse bomb generator, missile pod, networked marker light, two seeker missiles, 2 interceptor drones
Interceptor drones are basically turbo boosting jetbikes with skyfire, interceptor and a twin linked ion rifle ( range 30"S7 ap4 rapid fire) only bs 2. Pulse bombs are S5 ap5 large blast and it can keep making bombs for following turn on a 2+
The Razorshark is 145pts
-Burstcannon, quad Ion cannon range 30 S7 ap4 heavy 4 or S8 ap4 gets hot large blast, two seeker missiles and can exchange its burst cannon for a missile pod
These look pretty cool. Coupled with ground based flier defense... bring on the hell turkeys.

Well Broadsides with High yield missiles and velocity tracker are only 85pts.
Heavy rail rifle broadsides succccccccck, there is almost no situation they are better, even vs av13 high yields do the job better.

One question, does Volley Fire and Storm of Fire stack? I know you said Storm of Fire doesn't stack, but I didn't know if that was just with another Storm of Fire.

Huh, looks they do stack, there is no restrictions.
It would only work if models were within 15" of your pulse rifles and you were standing still though. But regardless you would get 4 shots.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left
United Kingdom
|
These may have already been covered:
- how many markers lights can I take say in a 12 Firewarrior squad?
- can broadsides take markerlight drones?
- Am I right in saying that I can have a Cadre Fireblade who has a marker light, accompanied by 2 markerlight drones, as he has split fire he can markerlight something different to the drones?
Thanks!

I am really liking the idea of gunline tau right now. I can't wait to figure some stuff out tomorrow with my own codex.
Right now though what I am thinking is
HQ of some sort
Troops would be 2 squads of 10 fire warriors, and a squad of 12 in a devilfish to hunt objectives.
Elites Stealth suits
Fast attack Path finders
Heavy support 2 missile broad sides.

Well only one unit will get the 4 shots, and volley fire doesnt work in overwatch (its shooting phase only). You might as well just get an ethereal.

1) 1 on the shas'ui, and 2 marker drones with the shas'ui (only 12 points!)
2) Sure can, 2 each, drones are not related to support systems at all now.
3) uhhhhhhhhhhh, that is correct as far as I can tell.

Cadre fireblades are very good for static gunline tau. Ethereals are better for moving tau as long as you can keep them safe

Would the fireblade give+1 shot to marker drones? Maybe thats where his split fire could be most useful. Fire half the squad at 2 different targets hitting on 2+. Would that work or am i crazy?

I was planning to buy Tau a little before the annoncement about a new codex came out, so i am wondering if i am buying the right things.
I think of buying a Commander of some sort
2 more crisis suits to the one i already have.
2 or 3 boxes with fire warriors
2 or 3 Devilfish
3 broadsides
this would be my "starting set" at least, is it viable ?

Quite, since it's the shiny new toy.
All in all it seems quite balanced; nothing hugely has changed in terms of their playstyle, mostly quality of life changes and more assault nerfs for 6th edition. Swan song of the BA/World Eaters/Khorne/Etc.
Vendetta/Helldrakes still rule the skies, Tau flyers are superfluous.

Not very. It looks scary, but it's still 200-250 points (or more). You might see one occasionally filling a specific role, but most of the time it gets out-shot by the usual broadsides and crisis suits.

Here is a question that got brought up in another thread.
For the interceptor drones on the Sunshark bomber, BEFORE they are detached, are they going to work as turrets (and therefore fire at full BS) or as passengers (and therefore only snap fire because the flier is always zooming)?

The latter, but have Skyfire and Interceptor anyway so it's largely irrelevant.
Yes, Bad/Trygon/ SM Captain/Bad
All in all, the new Tau book looks...very good. Broadsides don't get S10 but are cheaper and get can Ld9 and better options. Kroot kinda got hit but whatever. Devilfish are completely unreasonably expensive, costed to their 4E Invinciskimmer stats and not 6E's "scratch the armor 3 times and the tank falls apart and it's auto-dead in CC" paradigm. Vespids got better but are still gak.
Aside from that, pretty much everything got significantly better and/or cheaper. Yeah, sure Hammerheads can't move and shoot as well as they used to, but they're 20-40pts less each after kit than they were, and base cost less than IG medium tanks like Hellhounds. Suits have more options than they did before and are cheaper and come with multitrackers, etc. This book is going to be very strong.

I would argue otherwise, as the drones are far to vulnerable once they disembark. Its is a shame, if they could fire at full BS while still attached, the Sunshark would have been a halfway decent flier.

They are Rapid Fire sniper rifles with the range of an autocannon and as long as the controller is alive they have the BS of a Space Marine Captain.
