If a live action 40k movie is ever made for the big screen what would you like it to be about?
I personally would like to see it based on the Horus herasy and Angels and Demons clashing in mid air might make the movie entertaining for non 40k fans.
I would like the movie to be Rated 18 though to more accurately portray the 40k universe after all what would a 40k movie be without a poor guardsman being ripped limb from limb by a snarling Deamon? or another poor guardsman losing his head from a chaos marine karate chop?

At my last job, I worked for a company that shipped library books around the city, and on one Saturday shift I came across a rather tattered and old copy of 'Lone Wolf' a comic book by GW, so with no boss in work, I spent the shift reading this comic, and I think putting that on the big screen could really work, let Frank Miller get his hands on it, and it would be awesome.

After the Ultramarines movie I would want to see a movie based on an Imperial Guard regiment over a Space Marine chapter. Granted the Ultramarines movie did a pretty good job portraying the warrior monk attitude of many of the Codex following chapters, I found it rather dull and hard to connect to the characters at times during the movie. Now a movie about the Cadians defending the Cadian Gate during the 13th Black Crusade would be a great choice. You would have:
-Regular humans battling against chaos and dying in droves, aka the underdog effect.
-Can have Space Marines be in it but not the main characters, should give the fans their Marine fix.
-Many opportunities and ideas for a creative story could come out of this.
-Can connect to the main characters easier.
Or even a movie about a youth chosen to become a Space Marine and his trials to achieve it, however I feel it would have to be one of the Non-Codex Marine chapters to give it some creativity, a Neophyte of the Black Templars would be a good choice..

A movie about the First Tyrannic War. It can be done from a multi-perspective between Space Marines and the PDF soldiers. My reasons are:
A) For me at least, a movie where the hero dies in the end make it more memorable then some movie where everyone dies except for the main character and their love interest.
B) Ultramarines will be dying so Ward/Ultramarine-haters will be satisfied.
C) Shows how Grimdark WH40K is to non-fans.
D) Rip and tear. With some nomming on the side. 'Nuff said.

First and Only was practically designed for the big screen. Rag tag group of humans fighting a war against a very clear enemy. The story is full of personal vengeance, political intrigue, emotional events and militaristic dickishness, against a backdrop of a gigantic multiple planet spanning war.

Either go all out and make it about the Emperor, Horus et al., or something from the ground up, maybe a tale of a major planetary incursion from the perspective of a handful of Imperial citizens.

After reading many, many Black Library books (albeit not many of the IG ones), I have concluded that the only 40k story (to date) which would make an excellent movie, one which is accessible to non 40k fans, would be......Storm of Iron.
Storm of Iron offers the following:
1. A siege/war where all the big toys get to come out and play...making for visually appealing battle scenes
2. You get both sides of the conflict (the IW command team and the IG/Imp Fists are the central characters
3. Guardsman Hawke acts as some good comic relief/action hero silliness
4. The story is not particularly self referential to the 40k universe. Fortress has what the Warsmith wants, so it is attacked. Things happen along the way, but you really neeed no knowledge of 40k to understand what is happening.
Storm of Iron.

As long as the director and animators of the very much sucking ultramarines movie keep their hands of it i would say yes,.. i want to see a movie...
It should be fully made by computer though... like those cutscenes in Dawn of War 2...
It could be about anything... it would probs be ultramarines all over again.....
I would like to see a movie of any well known chapter vs a massive Ork Waagh

No Space Marines (at least not as main characters); they're boring. Something centred around an Inquisitor, perhaps.
Or a as I suggested before, a television programme about a Rogue Trader and his/her crew. (I think that episodic approach would work better with this concept than a film would. I see it as a twisted, dark Star Trek.)

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."
Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

Hmm... See I reckon that in fact Space Marines would go down well - but not in an all-out Chapter portrayal. I reckon it would suit non-40k fans better to portray the Death Watch. The majority of action films these days seem to be based more around special forces than all-out war films. So I reckon a film based on a Kill-Team orientated plotline would be great for non-40K fans as:
A) They wouldn't be required to have an in-depth knowledge of Space Marines - just that they are superhuman badasses!
B) The Imperial Guard can still be featured as they would be supporting the DeathWatch.
C) Can Include Inquisitors + the possibility for a bit Intrigue/'Who-dunnit?'
D) As Kill-Teams often operate deep in enemy territory, there's gonna be plenty of action.
E) Finally, the leaps and bounds made in CGI mean that not only can just about all Sci-Fi technology and Xenos be represented, but also real Actors can be used, and body proportions changed (eg. Hobbits) to suit the genre. But I wouldn't like to see an outright computer generated films with no human actors.
Also - What about Ciphias Cain! That would add in humor, human perspective, grimdark action and (though not sure it happened in the books or the 40K universe!) the possibility for a love interest that films usually include nowadays.

I don't know about a film, but I reckon Necropolis would make a good TV miniseries. There's probably too much going on to cram into a film, but you'd not need too much exposition on the 40K universe compared to other books. There would need to be some explanation of the the Warp and Chaos, but I think that could be explained during the story.
If any HBO executives are reading this post, please feel free to make everything I just said happen.
I think Titanicus could work as a film. Again, not too much exposition needed (just a basic explanation of the Adeptus Mechanicus and possibly Chaos), giant robots, tanks, human interest - it could work.

And by Frank Miller I defiantly meant Zack Synder, let him go all 300/Sin City on it. However if Miller was to write a series of 40k based graphics, that would also be awesome.

Unfortunately, I think we're not going to be able to get a clear answer of what "should" go into the movie.. I the end everyone will have a personal preference but what will make it great is if non-gamers have input on it to 'balance' it.. I think the best movie would be the one that brings in a more diverse players demographic. It worked for Transformers..

I think if it's going to be live action it's gotta be either Gaunt's Ghosts or Eisenhorn. Both focus on ordinary people so it wouldn't have to be any more special effects-heavy than the average summer blockbuster. Neither requires much knowledge of 40k to function, in fact those are both books I recommend to non-40k players as an intro to Black Library. And most importantly, both are fething amazing!

Necromunda/Mordheim based. alot of movies are based in gang warfare or a band of wanderers fighting mythical creatures. it'd buff the game systems as well as bring new fans to the hobby, ie Dredd fans from necromunda and [i'm not big on fantasy so insert good film here] to attract gamers to the fantasy arena. both would feature a cast of people who you could identify with and feel you could be one of them, neither add any special "uber-supermen", both could either be live action or CGI, both have that kill-team feel, yet none are considered OP [over powered] it'd also if it were based on necromunda, then they could work in conjunction with the guys who made that new Dredd film [think of it if it were animated strips of warhammer monthly or inferno come to life] ...it'd add something new but something familiar.....just a thought

A tyranid movie would be compared to the starship troopers movie and to the general public it would just seem like a rehash.
In general marines are pretty boring but they wouldnt have to be in the movie. Say you started with a squad of ten separated from a main force and they faced enemies that whittled them down to 2 or 3 by the end of the movie.
Eisenhorn would make a fantastic series.
The idea of a rogue trader based series is interesting but there have been lots of movies and series based on a group of people riding around on a space ship, Lost in Space, Dr. Who, Star Trek, Far Scape and I am sure many others. It has been a successful formula though.

I'd say that filming a boom would actually be a bad idea.. It never hashes that well.. And as much as it would HAVE to be about normal people.. It would also have to introduce Astartes as they are one of the main things what makes 40k unique and explains what the warp the Emperor is...
