I'm just going to take £100 and see what I end up with. Beyond a couple of 15mm Stuarts Vs I don't have any plans which leaves me free to buy anything shiney that catches my eye (but with only £100 I will have to be sensible )

I got here for 10am and the queue is huge, seems allot bigger than last year.
I hope I'm not in the London Marathon queue, that would be disappointing for all parties! Automatically Appended Next Post: So I've been here for two hours and made a few purchases. Some great tables on show.
I managed to snag the first game on one of the ZTV tables. They look good and the game is really great fun. It revolved around a Not-scoobydoo gang attempt to reach safety in London against a zombie horde. Take a look if you're here or jump in and play if you can!
Lunch, then I'm heading back in!

Yeah he said he was from Basingstoke. Their tables were stunning.
The afternoon was spent with more shopping and a game of Spatacus. A most intriguing game especially for a game based on a tv series.
Had a mooch around the Warmill stand and was seriously tempted by that bridge/street thing the have. Loaded up at Zinge/Anvil industries and the Plastic Soldier Company and finished the day off talking to Legoburner.
That wasn't the only celeb about Alessio Calvortorie was hanging about and for maximum amusement caught sight of the Fat Bloke on the Warlard stand eating the biggest sandwich I saw all day.
Great day!

Very telling that there were far fewer stands bothering to carry GW this year.

Agreed. 40k is my fave game but I noticed that the forgeworld stand was for once not swamped, I spent some time checking out wayland games and I spent five minutes just watching what people were buying (I was shocked) but I didn't see anyone buying any GW. There was hardly any GW stock and I didn't actually see any Hobbit lol. Plenty of x wing, infinity and other stuff that I was not familiar with.
Building on this (and this is something that GW need to realise) I have been to salute the last three years and I have some seem some systems grow in popularity. Drop zone commander was doing a 30 quid bundle which included a 6x4 mat and a load of cardboard buildings - this felt like great value. A few demo games were going on and it looked pretty good.
These "competitors" are getting a lot more slick and I genuinely think they are growing very rapidly. They are focussing on stuff that gw has abandoned I.e. 6mm and I think they are leaving themselves exposed.
I do hope that someone from GW realises that they have a few problems..........these guys are starting to nip at the toes of the giant in my opinion.
But hey, that's another thread but I would concur that gw was pretty absent at salute 2013. And for the first time in a long while I could see that maybe life would go on if they weren't around forever.

The only GW that I saw was the Forgeworld stand and GW branded carrier bags that one of the other traders must have been using. I don't think I saw any GW minis at all (Im sure that they were there somewhere though).
£96 on toys (only just within my budget ), mostly on a Bolt Action British army and a few other odds and ends. I was quite impressed by Anvil industries stuff and I was sorely tempted to make a Bloodaxe Ork army using the Kromlech greatcoat Orks, maybe once I have finished my current projects.
I didn't have time for any games but there were some nice looking tables.

GW still had a significant presence in the form of Bring and Buy, several stores carrying GW product, Wayland Games being the most obvious. There was a store where people were selling entire armies, but I didn't stay to browse.
Overall it was quite impressive, and it was great to meet the makers/see stuff I've been browsing on the internet for yoinks.
Best of show, in my opinion, were the miniatures of Smog 1888, which is a Victorian Horror game set in London by French People. The sculpts are... truly mind blowing. I never bothered getting into Malifaux or the other Victorian Horror games because the miniatures were so crap but I immediately picked up a copy of Smog. It's Victorian Horror done right.

Previous shows that I have attended have had an obvious GW presence amongst the general trade stands but this year I can't even remember seeing any aside from a WHFB Giant in one of the smaller stands. I didn't spend much time in the Wayland area to be honest, and even then I was looking for something specific. If anything FoW was the most prominent manufacturer this year with Warlord games also having a strong showing.
The Bring and Buy is another story, but thats to be expected.

Yeah, good day at Salute. Didn't queue too long, although had a ticket so was in the 'q-buster' queue (arrived about 10:15, was in by 10:30) Got my Hasslefree order (and some nice sweets), some fans from Zinge Industries and a set of clayshapers from Hersey. My boy took £20 and spent £38 !! Mostly on 'not' Doctor Who figures (Heresy and Ainsty) Had a good look at most of the tables and stands and what strikes me though is how fantasy/sci-fi has overtaken historical over the years. Wayland had an amazing set-up and you could easily move about, in fact the whole show was spacious which was great - the Excel is a great venue. Went to Warlords, but they didn't have what I wanted (German 88mm Flak 36) although was sorely tempted by the Assault on Normandy box set - good value for money that, just didn't have £60 - maybe next year? The amount of laser cut scenery was astounding - seemed every other stand had this. Really impressive stuff though. Think this will be on my shopping list when I get to do my Western scenarios... Didn't bump into any fellow Dakkas but did see a few wargaming 'celebs' - Perry twins, Fat Bloke Sawyer... Well done Warlords and roll on Salute 2014

I thought I ran into Alessio Cavatore at one point. Dropzone Commander was looking mighty appealing as well, although historical wargaming put a massive front on; Bolt Action miniatures had a huge stand.
Why is it the more WW2 Wargames I see the less I want to play them?

I forgot the Bring and buy bargain I fished out - Epic Space Marine game (2nd/3rd edition Epic) with not may of the minis but the rest there for £10!
I only remember seeing 1 GW game and Wayland carrying them. But then that was about the same for Warmahordes too.
Mostly PSC and Perry miniature on sale from what I could see.

Im not sure about that, b&b is always rammed with GW stuff but that could only speak of the amount that's out there. There is a huge amount of historical stuff too so ymmv really.

Then again, B&B sales can vary depending on the area, last one i was at in febuary, there wasnt a great deal of GW stuff for sale on it, but a fair mix of other systems.
Just wish i had the cash, would have loved to have gone to salute, oh well, maybe next year

Who said we didn't bring much GW? We had 8 linear meters of it!
However GW isn't a massive seller at Salute so we tend to concentrate on the ranges that will do well there. We already travel in 4 7.5 Tonne lorries and it would be a logistical nightmare to add to that number.
We had a great show, but everyone is exhausted. Hope everyone else had a good time.

Had a good time to, bought a few mini's to complete my 2nd Ed Chaos Cult Army. A Demagogue stand in from Eden miniatures.....
And 2 Chaos Magus from FW. Although they didn't have any in stock I ordered them with free shipping, so it's all good.....
Had a good chat with the BoW lads, my brother giving Warren a whole new list of Ming names to torment Justin with......
On a different point, did anyone notice how many 'Stand Ladies' there were this year compared to last? It seemed like a slightly dodgy tactic by some companies to coerce us nerdy types into buying more stuff.... It started in the que with some pretty blondes trying to flog magazines and carried on inside....I don't mind seeing nice young ladies hanging around Game Convention's, but I do have a problem when some companies try to use them to sell me stuff....

Had a good time and got to see and speak to a lot of people. Was good to see notprop after such a long time too! Apologies to Rich at wayland as I didnt get a chance to come and say hello again. I didnt see the BoW chaps which is a shame as it would have been nice to say hello to them too.
In terms of standout stuff at the show, smog was the one real highlight in terms of raw quality for me. The rest was decent but didnt grab me in the same way. The dropzone commander display did look great though.
Way more booth girls than ever before which was a bit cheap and cheesy.
I picked up some prepainted russian FoW terrain, some KR foam for star wars, a maus tank from peter pig and the rulebook for dropzone commander.

I must say I too heartily enjoyed Salute.
With my minimal £40 budget I bought myself the building blocks of my Imagi-Nation's regular army, which was a box of the new Perry American War of Independence British Infantry, and the Victrix 1804-1809 French Infantry, which were on a special show discount, costing £17 instead of £21.95.
However, the game that really caught my eye was 'Songs of our Ancestors', the skirmish game based on the Song of Blades & Heroes rule engine and featuring the Quar - Aardvarks with guns fighting the First World War in a fantasy Wales. Play was as awesome as it sounds. I got two games in, winning one almost totally, and getting mercilessly thrashed in the second. Getting the free Quar miniature from it was definitely a highlight, as the models themselves are so characterful.
I too noticed the store girls, which I too thought was a bit cheap. Then again, they were easy on the eye
I don't often get to go to Wargames shows (in fact, Salute (London), Skirmish (Crayford) and Cavalier (Tonbridge Wells) are the only ones I can actually reach), but by jove do I look forward to them. I cannot wait for Salute 2014!
