Subject: finecast thunderfire cannon - how bad is it?

I'm thinking about picking up a thunderfire cannon or two, but the main thing holding me back is that it's only sold in finecast now. I've not had the best of experiences with finecast to date, but my experiences have also been limited (chaos sorcerer and the 5x plasma gun and 5x meltagun packs). finecast seems to make a mess of small details and sharp edges. since the TFC model has nooks and crannies everywhere, I'm worried that the finecast version will require an absurd amount of fixing (or lots of mailing back and forth with GW for replacements).
anyone have the finecast version of the TFC? if so, how was the casting? lots of bubbles and flaws? pretty smooth? for anyone that happens to have both the finecast and the metal version, which one is better in terms of casting quality? I'm not in a huge rush, so I could potentially wait for metal versions to pop up on ebay if that's the better way to go.

I have two I just recently got - I haven't assembled them but I did inspect them for bubbles etc.
They look pretty good - in that I don't see any obvious warping or flaws. As far as a comparison to metal they're no better/worse. If you want I can try and get some pictures up next week.

no need to go through all that work, but thanks for the offer if the details look crisp and there aren't bubbles all over the rivets and edges, I may just take the finecast plunge again...

If you get a failcast, what do you do? I also never buy finecast because I have seen all of the rumblings on the 'nets about it.

if i'd stumbled onto YMDC as a noob to 40k, i wouldnt have bothered starting.
i have a metal thunderfire which has been dropped and generally abused (dont have room in a case for it atm) and held up damned well (couple of chips that were easily fixed).
i've seen the finecast one and couldn't see a difference between them, though the finecast one had no instructions, and there are a fair few fiddly bits to put on.....

Metal is the better way to go if you don't mind the weight. Even if you get a flawlessly cast Finecast one, the flexibility and softness of thin sections on models is just a huge no-no for me.

It's a bit up in the air about GWs finecast return policy. on the one hand people say they'v been refused and told to deal with it, on the other some claim theyv been treated fairly well with replacement parts. So its a bit of a gamble getting them and probably easier to just convert what you need.

I'm told GW has an excellent return policy. you call 'em up (I'd be ordering through their website, so no local store to deal with), tell 'em the issue and they mail out a replacement pdq. I have no first-hand experience with this, though, so ymmv.

As it happens I have had two of these and they were both two of the best FC I have had to date, Although they were the most recent.
Only errors I could find were bubbles on the under side on a part you do not really see.
I much prefer Finecast myself now over metal, the quality seems to have improved somewhat since the initial release.
To me, I think it shows the details better than metal ever did and they are much easier to convert also, I have heard about them not tolerating the weather in hot countries though so let that be a warning if you are in a hot climate.
