First off i'm happy to see such a response. Naturally when MoO put it out there matter-of-factly, and without drawing any comment it followed that the group was fine with it. As well, at the time, it wasn't clear if there were seperate incidents, or seperate reporters of the same incident. So while I don't know what you all thought he meant by "i text raped Autumn" it was clearly not what it turned out to be.

Also Steve, just checking, but you know you can't be trapped by cades right?

It was was mostly overlooked because he put it out there so matter-of-factly. Most of the group's members don't spend much time in UD and only check this thread to see which building is the latest targeted concentration of human players. Then they burn through their AP for the day and move on to other threads and activities. I'm one of the few players that reads every post (sometimes twice) just to ensure that everyone's questions get answered and that new players are integrated into the group. Unfortunately, I'm not terribly familiar with the latest slang and the types of nefarious activities that trouble UD and similar games. In tabletop gaming and first-person shooter type games, "raping" the other team is an overwhelming victory, not a sexually deviant act (text-based or otherwise). If MoO had posted his text, we would have reacted more quickly.

I can assure you JS if he had posted the content of his 'text' to your member on this forum--1. I would have removed the post and 2. JB would have been notified so the group could take action. The first I heard of it was when you brought it to our attention (which I appreciate due to how tasteless/crass the text was). And welcome to Dakka .

And as for what you others have been saying:
This is no reflection on my true personal character. When i roleplay a character i do just that. If i am RPing Lady Androga (a TT/verbal RPG character) i play as she is, the Paladin whom is obsessed with her pursuit of knoledge, or as she is later in life, having fallen and now waging a war on the forces of good that oppose her, and raising the dead to serve herself.
My point is that in real life i would sooner disect myself than EVER rape someone. Hell i would never even dream of it.
I hope that there is no stain left on my IRL self from this incident but if anyone has a grevance i would ask of them to contact me via PM, rather than posting it in this thread.

I would also like to remind you all that this is a game. Nothing more. Things that happen in it....... Well are they really that serious? Perhaps its just me. Ah well, ill be off now. I wouldnt like to blight this thread with my taint any longer.

Sorry that it came down to permanent expulsion, but the deed was judged that egregious. If you need help locating another UD group to join, I can help you find another zed group. The Ridleybank Resistance Force (RRF) is one such group. You can find their page on the Wiki without much difficulty.

Yes, UD is just a game but it is a community game and there are rules as well as social expectations of behavior. In the absence of guidance on Dakka and Urban Dead, everyone should abide by "reasonable man/reasonable woman" criteria. Before you do something bizarre, consider whether a reasonable man/woman would consider that an acceptable act. Manchu's point is that text raping fails that test and quite a few of our members agreed.

My personal view is that as long as you accept that the deed is wrong and act accordingly in the future, I have no issue with you IRL, Dakka, or Urban Dead. You're not bad, evil, or the reincarnation of Beelzebub. You just made a poor and costly decision. Stay on Dakka, contribute to the overall community, and show us that we judged you wrong. There are members that get banned on the site everyday. Many return and quite a few prove to be valuable contributing members.

Hello guys, interested observer and party to this whole unsavoury text-rape incident.

I felt compelled to create an account and throw my two cents-worth in, not in an attempt to antagonise or stir things up, just to present an opinion. I'm not friends with JS, I am a UD veteran and I'm not a troll so please don't take it the wrong way. I'm also not here to jump on the soap box and largely, my opinion can be dismissed by the regulars on here if you so wish.

I think you have dealt with the issue in an extremely sensible way and you have done well to keep things pretty emotion-free, diplomatic and straightforward in your decision making process. Hats off to JB, Manchu and the rest of you for that. With that in mind, I decided to say the things that you guys are too polite, or too diplomatic to say.

What concerns me is the perpetrator of the text rape. He is young enough so that he has to share computer privileges with his little brother, yet happy enough to produce a frankly graphic text rape and then pass it off as some sort of "black mood" brainfart after throwing it out so lazily onto the forum that no-one even picked it up. I wonder what the mother who controls internet time at his house would think of her son coming up with that sort of creative writing. Not only that, but when called upon it by members of The Nurglings (the group whose name he was befouling by committing the ultimate UD no-no whilst carrying their tags), he acts like HE is the one being wronged. Some flowery "this is how I role-play" bs is not an excuse. Secondly, "I would never dream of raping someone" doesn't hold much water when you see the words that this character used in the game. You've not only dreamt it, you've thought about it, put it into words and decided to use the most provocative language to bring it to life (horrible term I know, but it's a horrible thing). Thirdly, "is it that important?". Imagine you've been the victim of sexual abuse, you play UD and you come up against something like that. Sound far fetched? Well, it's not. At all actually. Fourthly, stop feeling sorry for yourself ("blight this thread with my taint"). This is on you and only you. How about apologising and not attempting to defend the indefensible? Especially when JB has given you countless opportunities to admit you've messed up and instead of saying "hands up, I was out of order", you've blamed every other possible thing you could have done.

Finally, it's pretty weak to complain about the rules not being advertised. Text rape is against the grain in any scenario whatever you're doing, it shouldn't need to be highlighted to all players. If you take role-playing so seriously that you think this is acceptable, you probably need to re-consider your priorities in life.

The rest of you, keep up the good work. Great group, fun to play against and not at all tainted by this. Hats off.

Whats done is done, there is no need for people to continue to talk about it as far as I am concerned.

As harsh as it may seem, he shall serve as an example should anyone ever consider doing such a idiotic thing in the future, so now we can move on.

It was the same for me. I used 36 AP and only got a single hit in.

Dammit my zed has gone full circle. When we arrived at kemsterbank I was doing 1 successful hit to a door about every 7-10 swings, then I had a while where I was getting a hit about every 2-5 swings, that lasted for 2 days, and now I'm right back to expending 14, 15 points and doing maybe 1 'partially collapsed, you got 1 experience' hits. Maybe one.

7 PM London

3 PM Eastern Standard Time (US) but only for today. Once you end Daylight Savings Time, the normal time will be 2 PM.

The US folks may prefer a different attack time for US only. We have not nailed down a time or even a demand for one yet.
