So as my sig suggests, I have around 1500 points of eldar. You'll also notice that I have over 2000 points of Tallarn desert raiders. I have not played with the eldar in months, but there is a new codex on the horizon. From what I've been reading, there will be lots of new units and models, which means I almost definitely won't want to use the ones I have now. I currently have: 2 squads of Dire Avengers, 6 warlocks, 5 pathfinders, a wraithlord, 3 farseers, swooping hawks, fire dragons, 2 support weapons, dark reapers, and three jetbikes. I look at my Tallarn and one thought comes to mind. Need. More. Tanks. I could always use more chimeras, another russ, maybe some hellhounds, and well, idk tanks are just fething awesome. So my question is, should I sell my eldar before the new codex drops and the new models come out, to buy more IG tanks (I think I could probably get $200 or so for them, meaning three more chimeras and possibly two hellhounds)? Or should I just stick it out and wait for the new codex?

Out of the models you list the chances are only the Jetbikes are being redone, at least in the first wave, so your collection won't be invalidated by the new release. Ultimately, I think, you have to decide between Imperial Guard now or Eldar later.

I'm not worried about the models becoming invalidated, I'm just worried that there will be cooler models than those that I have, not necessarily replacements. And welcome to dakka, Sir.

Thanks, long time lurker, first time poster :-P

Thing is, you'll need the core of your Eldar army to add the new stuff to. Maybe sell off the Hawks and/or Jetbikes as these are most likely to get redone?

Then just buy those as well? There's nothing wrong with running squads from different editions. Most old timers actually enjoy seeing older models on the table alongside newer models.

Wait for the codex you may think its great or gak, either way will inform your decision.

Keep your models and wait till the next codex. Work on painting ones you like and plan to try to keep using.

Well definitely don't write off the pathfinders and fire dragons as I think they are going to always be a pretty good choice in 6th. Dire Avengers are pretty good as well but a point decrease wouldn't hurt. Fire dragons just wreck stuff when they jump out of a Wave Serpent and just decide everything they shoot is going to die. Guide them with your frienldy local farseer to make a very painful overwatch and maybe they won't die when they get assualted. I am also a fan of walking a 10 man unit of wraithguard up the board with a warlock with conceal or enhance. There aren't a slouch in cc either. just some ideas

Guide doesn't work when overwatching, unless that was FAQed and then I got cheated! Since the wording on guide says shooting phase only.
