So, I finally finished the first of some of the Finecast Necrons my wife got me for Christmas... of 2011. I'm a slow painter with many unfinished projects, but once I buckled down this went fast.

There were a lot of challenges with this. I found the Finecast material to be, frankly, mediocre.I know barrels of digital ink have already been spilled on the topic, but this stuff is awful - and this was the replacement for one the original one which was even worse. I had to replace his staff because no amount of hot water could straighten the crazy straw that was his stave, despite trying for about an hour. I also at one point dropped it a few inches, and his headdress broke and went flying, which is why the whole thing has been replaced with some DE knife bits.

I did some parts of this with my new Minitaire paint, this being literally the first model I did with them. The OSl on the green orbs is not as good as it could be, as I thinned the paint - that was a mistake and it spider'd a little. I cleaned most of it up but you can still see some of that mishap on the left one.

I've also chopped up a Praetorian CCW to make a gauntlet of fire for him. I'm pretty please with how that came out.

The crystals are recast sprue with the tips shaped with a dremel tool.

I may try and rehab the other kit, in which case, I will try again, but here's where I am for now.

I really like the purple on this model. Not something you see much with necrons.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

He looks great, very regal. I agree with Nobody (that feels strange typing) that the purple is a great addition to the model, and your repair work looks good. I didnt even notice it wasn't a normal necron headdress at first. Shame about the horrid quality of the material though.

Love the purple. I try to incorporate purple somewhere in every Army I paint, my Necrons were the only exception...

The purple makes him look pimptastic!

Easy, just a ROBB board, primed and painted, and then the skull puddles were filled in with clear resin that I tinted green (actually, green and yellow, for just the right tone).

I really like those colors together. The effect on the board with the clear resin is awesome too.

Nice job, Ouze. I like the purple you added to him. It definitely gives him a regal look that definitely makes him stand out.

P.S. The fading effect on the blades of the staff is brilliant, as well.
