Could you give us a recap of the game against Dan? He's a great player and a frequent winner of one of the bigger tournaments in my region.
Dan was playing Tau/ SM, basically Buffmander, Shadowsun, 2 Broadside units, 1 Riptide, and then SM allies with Sevrin Loth, 3 Grav Centurions, and some troops. I was running my White Scars/Red Hunters with Chapter Master, Khan, 5 units of bikes (all grav, including one full bike squad), a pair of stormtalons, and a pair of thunderfires, and some scouts.
He got the choice of sides and deployment and chose to go first. Mission was Dawn of War, Crusade and Emperor's Will. He bunches his forces towards his right, in front of two Crusade objectives. I deploy on the far side from him with my large bike squad containing Khan, Chapter Master, and the big bike squad, as well as 2 thunderfires, out of range of everything except the riptide. Everything else outflanks except the scouts, who infiltrate.
At this point, Dan infiltrates his centurions with Shadowsun attached (allowed at LVO) 18" in front of my big bike squad. Dan and I talked afterwards, and in hindsight he should have placed them farther backwards. He had wanted to encourage me to scout my bikes back into range of the broadsides. As it turns out, he confused the fact that units that infiltrate and/or scout cannot assault on the first player turn with the idea that no one can assault on the first player turn. However, instead I opted not to scout and gamble on seizing the initiative.
I rolled a six to seize and pull off an assault on the centurions with my command squad, and proceed to wipe the centurions in two player turns. From there, I manage to slowly grind away his troops while gunning the large bike squad down his throat. We end on turn 4 with me holding 1 crusade and 2 emperor's will objectives and him holding none. I have First blood and line breaker, while he has none.

I actually played against Dan Hesselberg as well, though in the team tournament. Frankly, I'm amazed he was even able to play considering how drunk he was then (he brought his own personal, upchuck bin. Lol.).
Anyways, he and his partner were running Tau + Necrons:
Tau toolbox commander, 2 units of kroots, Riptide, 6 broadsides w/missile drones, Destroyer Lord, 6x wraiths, 3 troops in night scythes and 1 Annihilation Barge.
It was a devastatingly good army and definitely our toughest match of the (Doubles) tournament.

Maybe next year you can split the event into 2 and have people choose the event that they get to play in and everyone will be happy.

Will the blackmoor even just be him sitting in the corner making Rawring Noises with his nids as he grumbles about FW?
Also, I think you guys should totally allow Escalation in the Team Event.

While I am thinking about it, I would like to say that there was a problem with LOS blocking terrain.
Yes, there was often 2 LOS blocking pieces of terrain in the center of the table, but does that really mean anything to Eldar? All they have to do is move to the left or to the right and they can shoot at what they want to. That might be one of the reasons why they did so well at the LVO (and every other tournament).
Gone are the static shooting armies where center blockers would protect you from getting shot. There are no more Devastators in terrain shooting from fixed locations (except for Broadsides which might be one of the reasons Tau did not do so well).
What I would like to see is some LOS blocking terrain in the deployment zones to keep your armies from getting alpha striked off of the table from mobile shooting armies.
6th edition is all about mobile shooting and there was nothing to slow those armies down. In fact look at the top 8 armies, and they all could care less about center LOS blocking terrain. There are lots of Eldar, SM bikes, IG artillery, and Necrons who can maneuver (Or ignore with the IG) around any LOS blockers. .
Something to think about.

Yeah. I think with more prevalance for LOS blocking we might see crisis suits return in full. I know im going to do that.

Terrain isn't the answer to everyones' problems. If you make standard tables with standard terrain set ups then people will build lists to combat that, or they will just do better because their army is good at it.
The LVO had the best terrain set up I have ever played on by a wide margin. In a game like this one the fast and maneuverable armies will always have an advantage, unless we go back to the days of 3 inch max height terrain with only 2 or 3 pieces a table. Or we could go back to 4th when all terrain over size 3 blocked LoS completely no matter the actual size. Something I don't relish. I think the LVO had terrain at just about the best level they could.

Bring a Fortress of Redemption!
Actually, it is an interesting observation. I wonder what the meta at Adepticon, with it's "place your own terrain" rules, will look like. Even the "forests" tend to block LoS completely (as they are roughly 12" deep, with large elements in fixed locations across the base), much less actual ruins.

The LVO had great terrain (some of the best I have played on in a tournament), but that does not mean that it can't be improved. Yes, fast armies have an advantage in 6th edition, so we should be okay with them having a huge advantage if they go first? Going first is a huge advantage already (first blood) so we should try to minimize it's impact.
Take Tyranids as an example: They start with their FMC on the ground turn #1 and they can be easily killed. LOS blocking terrain in the deployment zone levels the playing field some for them.
Hey, wait a minute...you played Eldar!!! No wonder you don't want it.

Actually I had several games where my deployment zone had good LoS blocking terrain, those were all Hammer/Anvil and the deployment I can never remember the name of where you deploy in corners All my Dawn of War games had little LoS terrain in their deployment zone which I saw as little issue given my army of choice
