15mm also has the benefit of lots of sci-fi toys to convert.

For example I picked up one of these walkers from a McDonalds Star Wars promotion a couple of years ago. A lick of paint and presto its a 15mm super heavy walker.

The photo isnt mine btw. It's just one I found on line from some one who had the same idea as me!

I am steadily getting into 15mm gaming as well.

I think a 40k version would be AWESOME!!!

Marines could be scled correctly and dreadnoughts and tanks would look SWEET!!!

It would open up a brand new vista of miniatures for GW or any other company that wanted to cast in plastic.

Every reason listed is a pro IMHO...

The figs are easy to paint up , the tanks look great on the table and the terrain is easy to make.

If the manufacturer did their homework, the terrain and vehicles could be scaled perfectly to fit the existing range of GW models and fortifications.

Right now there's a guy on The Miniatures Page 15mm Sci-fi board who is converting regular 15mm guys to 40k like a madman, here's some of his work:

And here's the thread with the Termies. He's also got some posts showing his WIP on converting some DKoK.

I like the IDEA of 15mm minis, for all the advantages the OP lists.

But in practice, there's no big, well rounded, line of 15mm fantasy minis that really grab me. I've no interest in WW2 - and none of the companies that have the resources to do it right bother with it.

I am sure if you go to www.theminiatures.com and ask in the Fantasy section you can find a ton of fantasy miniatures in 15mm. I have the Daemon World stuff since that was the first tabletop war game I played. However there are a bunch of other guys out there that make 15mm stuff.

Imperial Gaurd 18,000 Orks 16,000 Marines 21,900
Chaos Marines 7,800 Eldar 4,500 Dark Eldar 3,200
Tau 3,700 Tyranids 7,500 Sisters Of Battle 2,500
Daemons 4,000

Ok recently I got into flames of war, and I soon realized I like the smaller scale!!! What i want to discuss is the validity of 15mm on a ficticious game that is trying to accomplish the same thing as warhahmmer, warmachine, etc....we can also look at it from the games that are popular that are 15mm flames of war and field of glory.
Model cons

1. They are smaller so less detail? the tanks look 100% good, its troops that you lose some clarity, I personally like them though AND with modern 3d modeling techniques and molds how much better can they be?
2. Cant convert as easily at this scale? Again, due to the lesser clarity I think it may be easier to convert since you dont need to worry so much about detail (this is not true of the existing 15mm games as most of them are historical and their is little converting. Alsi epic is 6mm scale! so thats even smaller! (i think it makes troops to small in my opinion)
-----Here is a blog post i found about custom epic models and it looked easy! http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/06/epic-look-what-i-found.html
3. easier to lose? or misplace?

Gaming pros

What do you all think? do you wish their were more 15mm games? especially in the fantasy or scifi genre?

why arent there more already?

I've made a thread about this as well... i am gradually moving to 15mm from 40k. I think 28mm games will always be important, probably more widespread than 15mm because for painting/converting, this is the scale where the human figure size is the optimum size. So games like 40k, fantasy/medieval stuff, will mostly be at that scale. It will always be the case that the human figure, and the various armors, weapons and anthropomorphs that come with it, are what we relate to the most.

However, there are other things which 15mm excels at. War Machines, like walkers, tanks, Alien tripods and other fantastic creations, are all best in 15mm. That's because with anything smaller, and you can't really make out the humans and have nothing to relate it all to... they suddenly feel like chess tokens. But with 15mm you can look at the humans in comparison with war machines and imagine yourself in that human context facing off against the immense scale and power of those machines, and coexisting in a world with them. The same is true for terrain, it gets better in 15mm because the landscape itself is more defined as a whole and gets a chance to shine. You can model large city buildings or big trees, or a blasted landscape of trenches and craters for instance, all far easier.

So in the midst of a digital design revolution... we are starting to see 15mm figs coming out with realistically defined faces and proportioned bodies... that's far easier to create now that you can do it on a computer and only the most talented sculptors can do that kind of detail at that scale. So hopefully things change!

As for detail... detail is detail. A 28mm tank is the same size as a space marine roughly, and packs the same amount of detail. The only difference that matters is the size of the human and how our minds use that to relate to the story that's being created.

There seems to be a lot of interest in the FLGS for 15mm lately (not counting the FoW guys, they've always been mad for 15mm)

Saw a funky home-brew game the other day based on the infinity rules adapted to 15mm, set in the fallout universe so 15mm super mutants and friends vs survivors on a wasteland.

If enough people were into it, i'd consider 15mm just for the heck of it, although it seems to be harder to find specific items at 15mm (like, if you were looking for a particular mythical monster, or specific future-style army.

Also the All quiet on the martian front kickstarter is live, even if you aren't interested in the game but have sci-fi troops the tripods are amazing plastic kits, for a good deal. Also bumping up the total and giving me more free stuff for the pile!

Should go well with my Rebel Mini's figs... great models for making your own sci-fi scenarios and tanks good for 'not-40k' type 15mm stuff.

I think you lose too much detail on the toys and I'm mostly in it for the toys... mostly.
