ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? Well the Emperor must be the biggest bone head of all time. Considering his supposed vast intellect, ancient age and super duper psyker powers he constantly made knucklehead choices and couldnt predict even the sun would rise the next morning.

He makes Lindsey Lohan and Sarah Palin seem very wise.

Ferrus Manus basically was only written in that piece of garbage Fulgrim to make him look like an incompetent idiot so Fulgrim looked better

In granting those who oppose me death I am giving them the mercy of Nurgle.
Releasing my enemies from the bonds of fear and oppression , from the shame of betrayal, I preform a kindness I erase contempt, regret, sorrow, insanity all the burdens of life, embrace death and be free or reject Nurgles gift and be destroyed.

Titans on the Imperial side. You want something to look impressively destructive you just put some titans or superheavy tanks opposite them and get blown up. See Legio Metalica at Armageddon, Legio Praetor at Macragge, Legio Annihilator against Hive Fleet Jormungandr, and numerous individual Titans blown up in short order to make individual units and characters look powerful.

The Hive Tyrants from Dawn of War 2. Those things are monsters when used properly, and yet they get roflstomped by Thule and Angelos to show how godly the two warriors are.

At least their exploits in the previous games makes them live up to their legends.

Think of something clever to say.

Anything non-Imperial to make Space Marines look godly. There are SO many stories about how a single Marine or a Squad of Marines murdered hundreds of enemies without so much as a need for tactics...just being all Paladinly and moving forward.

I have to vote for Ferrus as well. What a waste of a character. All the more bittersweet knowing that Ferrus would have killed Fulgrim on Isstvan if not for Fulgrim giving in to the daemon.

The whole Iron Hands Legion.

Reading angel exterminatus again - the part where the sisyphean is on the run. It's briefly explained that a night lords vessel (which should have killed the ship) hunted it down and expected to win because everyone knows that the Iron Hands only charge in blindly. Luckily, they had one raven guard on board who said 'Stop that, its silly' and so the Iron Hands won.
They were fine for a bit before some Iron Hands veteran (insane version of inspector gadget) half blew the ship up with a dumb experiment, which announced their presence to the universe, rendering all attempts at stealth null and void. Then it all turned out fine. Lucky that.

I want the Iron Hands to show how good they are, not just turn out to be the marine equivalent of orks.

Orks crop up a lot in the background from the Black Library Horus Heresy books, the pre-heresy short stories in Forge World Horus Heresy: Betrayal, and in a number of the 40k novels (Rynn's World, Helsreach, etc).

They make an excellent foe. Both surprisingly cunning and brutal. I might have that backwards.

Yeah on a small scale (while 600marinez isn't small scale it is in those battles) overall the WB kinda smacked them about which I was really happy to see. Dam Ultramarines diserves to be taken down a peg

Magnus the Red for Ragnar, but he has lots that's makes him look good, but still reducing a Primarch to target-practice is bad for the Primarch, but good for Ragnar. Also you have every demon meeting a Grey Knight. Space Marines in general has a lot of that. So much that in general they are horribly predictable reads. Basically here is the average book or fanfiction about the Space Marines. First they struggle a little into the middle-late chapters. Then they suddenly curb-stomp everything in sight and you realize you could just as well have watched a John Cena or Hulk Hogan-match.

If you have nothing nice to say then say frakking nothing.

At least they lose for a bit
Can you imagine if they just won straight away?
Eg, How much fun would it be if Cena just went straight into the five moves of doom?

I want to add...

40k Ultramarines. I swear some books have it so that all you need to beat them is a copy of the codex astartes and a flow chart.

If we do *this*, they will respond like *this* and so forth.

*insert generic tactic

Hahaha. Codex Astartes flowchart. Funny.

I would actually have seen it as refreshing if Cena went straight to his five moves of doom and curb stomped everything for a while. In a real fight if you are losing from the get-go you don't magically succeed like him.

It'd make for some short books

2 Space marines walking along.
"Look aliens!"
Ork goes "Wut?" Edit: sorry - "WAAAGH!."
Blam.
The end.

OT - Do they not realise Cena has a kinetic motion power generator? The more you throw him about, the stronger he gets at the end...
He must be so talented to be be able to punch someone lying down in the head SO HARD that they stand up. Everytime. That takes skill...

One thing that bugs me is how Orks are almost always just a distraction from a bigger threat in the fluff. I can say with the utmost assurance that where there is orks, there are secretly chaos/necrons/incomming hive fleet/rogue inquisitor's evil plot/the occasional craftworld eldar that play the roll of the ACTUAL villains.
