Subject: Should the IG codex be human-only?

I've never really been a fan of the sub-humans in the IG codex. Not that I don't think they have a place in 40k, but I always think of the Imperial Guard as being a human thing. Indeed one of the things that appeal to me about the Imperial Guard is their humanity, they're simple human soldiers who're facing off against the meanest motherlovers in the galaxy.
I'd like to see them wrapped into an Auxillery Guard codex, rather than being squatted though.
What is the dakka community's thoughts on this?

Ratlings and Ogryns belong in the guard dex. As hilarious as it would be to field a complete army of ogryns I don't think their intelligence is high enough to actually command or even form an army on their own.

They're abhumans, separated by millennium from ancient Terra, that are loyal to the Emperor and fight in His name.
The certainly belong.

They're quite deeply entrenched in the lore and army, so there would probably be quite a fairly reaction if they were removed from the main IG codex.
Besides, it's not like GW has any particular reason to remove them anyway. They're fairly popular as they are, I think.

Humans are just fish that have adapted to extreme environments (land) I wouldn't say that ogryns and ratlings are humans personally, but that's an ontological point.

Technically, low gravity would more likely produce tall, ships thin beings, not short hairy hobbits.
I hate the abhumans and regularly keep an eye out for stand in models. They fluff wise have no place as they are in essence, mutants, something various Imperial entities seem to go out there way to exterminate.
I wouldn't mind seeing them gone, they are painful reminders of War hammers origin of Fantasy in Space.
I also do not mourn the Squats. Sorry.

Regardless of how some view them, i think it would be a great way to bring limited squats in the next IG codex, AND bring in scout bikes (which actually makes sense) so they can be squat bikers! Also this gives me a great idea for using bike troops as rough riders.

The same reason why some may like IG (the uniformly human look) may be why it doesn't appeal to others, as some may see it as boring. IMO it just diversifies the codex. More options are never a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

I think the Ogryns and the Ratlings are a good example of how humanity uses up and discards the subspecies that have developed. I'm not necessarily sure the IG codex is the perfect place for them, but I think it's the best fit we have.

Well there are actually a bunch of sub humans in the Imperial Guard, and lots of people like making armies with them. If think Imperial Guard should be all human, just make your list only human, Its that easy.

All this stuff used to be in the IG, in the year 40Kish. First edition warhammer was definitely not in the setting of the Dark Age of Technology.

What is the dakka community's thoughts on this?
Abhumans are a very important part of the Imperial Guard, and without them you lose a very important part of what makes the codex (and the faction as a whole) unique.
What makes Abhumans fit, ironically, is that they're still human. Whether they're the massive Ogryn, the hard working Squats, the primitive Beastmen, or the sneaky Ratlings, they're all still people on the inside. They're still viewed as expendable meatshields to the Imperium, they still have families, they still get crap rations from the munitorium, they still have to do crappy guard duty in the rain, etc.
Having them is like having the Mordians or the Tallarn as part of the Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard isn't some super special organization where only the best 1 in a million candidates are chosen from a special recruitment planet. The Imperial Guard takes anyone with a pulse and two brain cells that can rub together to pull a trigger. Having Abhumans shows that the Imperial Guard is made up of all sorts of people, from all walks of life. The "average joe" if you will, even if the average guy on his planet weighs 400 pounds and can benchpress a truck without breaking a sweat.
Losing the Abhumans would be like losing the Catachans, the Vostroyans, the Valhallans, the Tanith 1st and Only, or any other culture or race that makes up the Imperial Guard. The Imperial Guard is the organization that takes "everybody". When you start cutting certain regiments, races, planets, or "species", you start to lose what makes the Imperial Guard unique to 40k. Whether you're 4 foot tall with hairy feet, 8 feet tall with the intelligence of a 5 year old, a drunken midget who loves motorcycles, or you're more beast that man, you can still give your life for the Emperor. And since humans aren't the same on every planet, cutting a certain group just because they're "different" defeats the whole reason why the Imperial Guard is cool in the first place.
Why do you think a lot of players can't stand the Cadians? Because they're a very bland looking clone army (if one is unaware of the fluff, where the Cadians get a pretty interesting culture of their own) Cutting Ogryn, Ratlings, or other abhuman races, just sterilizes the image of the Imperial Guard, and would make it no longer an army of the average man of the Imperium, but a group that picks and chooses their troops, which we know is very out of character for the Imperial Guard as a whole.

Just to point out, Beastmen aren't often considered for IG due to how extensive some of them are and are actually exterminated within sectors of the galaxy, and the only IG that use them are generally outside of the typical area's that would exterminate them.
They are often hunted as mutants.

huh, I'd heard they were often used as "first wave" troops, seeing as they're somehow even more expendable than the average guardsman.
Well, still, rest of my point stands
