Yeah, even with this small sample you can see how good the Necrons are going to look as a force. Nice work!

You guys are too kind.

Progress:

Blacked the guns.

So the Combat Patrol is 1 overlord, 10 warriors, 3 destroyers (with little buddy) 3 scarab swarms, 1 doomstalker. At the rate I’m going, it should not be too long before I get to that point. I’m still noodling around to get a 2k list I like. I’m mostly there at this point with just everything I own, but might be a little dysfunctional.

With such a quick scheme, you'll be at the combat patrol size in no time. They're coming along very well.

Hopefully your staying out of the weather!

They are a little off because the fiddly stages are at the start, not the end. Basecoat, paint the tubes/red wires. Clean up the metal wires. Brown wash. More clean up. Black wash. Bright silver. Green glow. Touch up. Base.

But no edge highlights. Ot bad touchup from blue ink.

I should have these 5 done by the end of the month. And it’s been a month. But that will be 10 troops and a HQ in a month. At that rate I’ll clear the pile of crons before the year is up. Of course, I’ve got other stuff that needs paint…

The weather here was not out of scale bad. Like a foot and a half of snow. Which is not good, but normal. Still sucks to clear, but I didn’t need to drive in it, and havn’t lost power.

Just need a final check up pass, then off to be based.

And off to be based. Also almost done building the HIs.

I think I’m going to spend the rest of the month trying to finish the jump guys on the bench, or at least chip away. I know next month is finish it February, but I think I want to use that to push the final models for my nids across the bench. Might also try to get the marines done as well, but not as the primary goal.

Nice! Never see them irl and compared to necrons they are pretty bulky.

It’s weird. Set next to a normal intercessor, they just seem a little bit bigger. But next to “normal” minis, they are extra chonky.
Zambro wrote:Great looking Necrons! And at a good pace.

If I focused on them I’m pretty sure I could do the same to them as I did to the soulblight. Kick out a 2k list in a year. Which is about the total volume of them I have planned. It may happen. But I suspect I’ll get distracted with other stuff. I’ve got a lot of other projects I want to work on.

But off to a good start:

10 warriors and a lord done in a month. End goal is like ~70-80 minis

And the entry pic for the month:

So they are off to the YTD shelf, and the first things to claim space there. This next month is “Finish It February” and I’m going to try to bang out the remainder of my Tyranids. Moved the Neurotyrant, his 2 buddies, and 2 gaunts to the painting handles and put their first grey seer down. Left one handle open for a marine to get work done, as I’d like to get them done as well.

That comp pic montage is great. Really shows them off well. 2k fully painted in a year is a good effort, and ambitious compared to your '1 mini a week' - you'll probably have to retire that phrase soon

Finish it February is a good month - nice and wide scope to get on with literally anything.

Mostly, on my phone.

Great job all round. Basing really sets them off.

The warriors and lord are looking good, I think you have really nailed the colour scheme - nice montage for the competition as well.

Pause on the crons while we paint some nids. I need to get to the bench more aggressively if I actually want to finish them this month. Lot of distractions and things going on. Which will hopefully quiet down.

Also picked up a redemptor from the FLGS last weekend I’ve started building. So far looks like a fun kit.

Doo eeetttt…..

One of the reasons for this month’s topic is to encourage people to finish up projects. Great time to get motion on older projects to get them across the finish line.

Put some black washes down. Little brains are done, just need to be based. Gaunts need a clean up pass and their faces. And base work all around, but that will be at the end of the month.

I love the brain bugs. You're doing a great job on them too!

Lovely work on the Necrons Nev. Can I just also ask how are you finding the Neurotyrant and little Neuroloids? Are they as good a painting project as they look?

Thanks.

I went back and put some red on the tentacle spikes of the little guys. They needed something more.

The little brain guys are light on details, but fun and quick. The big guy has a lot of details, and some hard to reach places. The push-fit build on him also caused some gaps, but they are not horrible. Definitely a break from the normal nids. Although if you have neurolictors and/or zoenthropes in your queue, not that mucch of a break.

I am enjoying them for now. We’ll see if the detail gets to me.

You want to finish the Nids but have a lot going on, then in the next sentence you say you bought a Redemptor. Could you be your own worst enemy?

The Nids look cool. Having a finished army is a hugely impressive statement - keep plodding away at it!

Oh, I absolutely am my own worst enemy. But 2026 has been off to a great start.
Spoiler:

Had a crown pop off one of my teeth, turns out I’m going to need a root canal. That’s a 3 step code job, part one is done at this point.
The plumbers came back to dig up and replace the pipe that a tree had broken into with its roots. Under the house. So they jackhammered a hole in my basement, dug a small tunnel, and fixed that. 2 days, no water. But as all the work was being done right on the other side of the wall where all my gaming books and basement mini cases are, I had packed/moved all the stuff from them, just in case. Still need to put everything back (about a third done). Once the weather warms up, I’ll need to get some concrete and patch the hole. And move the pile of extra dirt currently in my garage out to the lawn (which could use it). On the bright side, if the break was out in the yard, that would have doubled the price and added another day, as they would have needed a team with a backhoe.
My team at work is loosing 2 of our major clients. One at the end of Feb, the other in July. Now there is always some turnover, but still a lot of anxiety. At least 2 people were laid off last week.
Winter stuff like shoveling/blowing snow.
Social stuff, like friends’ birthdays. Which are nice, but draining to an introvert like me.
General worry about the state of the world, and more locally about some of my friends/family who are going through some rough times. Trying to be supportive where I can. We can’t fix everything, but can make somethings better; do what you can, where you can, for who you can.
Did my taxes. Always a fun game of trying not to accidentally commit fraud. It should be a good year for the return though, and the new dread was a reward for getting it done. Plus was the last thing I needed to own for the company. Need more than one dread.
And probably more stuff I’m forgetting.

There is more stuff I could be doing for the nids. There was a chunk of stuff that came to me painted, which could be stripped and done in my scheme. I know at one point I was going to grab the pair of spikerifles and strip and redo them, now that they have rules again. I should take a survey. That can wait until the current crop is done though.

Sounds like the redemption was warranted (needed) and you have shown great restraint not getting more.
Not the best start to 2026, the tooth is a pain, the pipe break is annoying but as you say at least it happened in the cheap (ish) place rather than the garden! And at least it gives you a chance to review/categorise/organise all your books and models before you put them all back.
Sorry to hear about work, we’ve just been through a reorganisation and restructure so I know how it can feel, it really sucked at the time but things feel a little better now they have settled.
Apparently things come in threes and it appears that you’ve had your allotted allowance for the year so hopefully the rest of 2026 will be smooth riding from here on in.

Back to the models, what is the size of you Tyrnaids army now, do you have a full list / picture of it all?

The last “full” pic is this one from right before the 10th codex dropped. So after the Leviathan box. About 3 years ago.

I know I picked up a box of Zoenthropes, a box of hormagaunts, and probably another box of termagants after the pic. And built and painted a lot of bugs over the time. The last time I crunched the numbers it was a little over 4k points, but I’ve not updated it in a bit.

I could have gone harder into the retail therapy, but need to be a semi-responsible adult. And need to save a chunk of my hobby budget for this summer. Not just money, but how many models getting added to the Pile of Shame vs. how many come out of it.

I’m fine, as stable as can be expected in this world. Could be happier, but is what it is. Just got to keep moving forward and keep an eye on the silver linings. And keep painting (which I slacked on today)

Stay warm and have a good weekend all!

Thanks. It was real tempting to break them out and do some pics and numbers over my morning coffee, but that should wait for the end of the month. Looking back on the 6 year journey will be fun. I think everyone has received formal pics, but some might have just got included in group shots. And the way I’ve added to swarms of little guys, they may not have gotten full group shots.

Speaking of adding, finished the 2 little brains and 2 gaunts on the handles, moved them down to be based. Replaced with 4 more gaunts.

Finished the torso for the dread, glued the stormbolters to the mounts, but they can still pivot. Top AA ML is also loose at this time. They will get glued to a set position, but I want to see what the angle looks like in the final pose. Which looks to be very open to variations. Will need to decide how dynamic I want this guy. Or if he needs to be crushing something underfoot. And how much I want to magnetize. Main gun is almost definitely happening, but the secondary gun is more up in the air.

Gaunts getting done. Also picked up the free mini of the month, another termagaunt. As my FLGS does a painting comp for them, I gave him a quick build and garage prime. Looks like it went on clean. I’ll give him a day to cure, then work him through with the rest of the lot.

And more progress. Actually a bit more since pictured; I got the black wash down on the reds. Next up is eyes and teeth, then touch ups. Getting there.

Although shoveling slush off the driveway and a full martini will put a stop to more detail work tonight..l
