Could I print edible minis? That could be pretty cool.

Contractor says one of his primary motivations is a belief that food will become exponentially more expensive in the near future.
He's probably right. Give me a printer that can throw together proteins into something that looks like hamburger and tastes close enough and I'll slap some BBQ on it and eat it.

You might not think this so hot when you realize what they're using for "ink"
Some alternative food source options that may be used with the printer include algae, duckweed, grass, lupine seeds, beet leaves and even insects, according to TNO Research, which is working with Contractor on the project.

Meal worms aren't terrible... I'm sure they're better when ground up and made to look and taste like pizza... instead of fried in some butter >_>

That's the point. Making the disgusting but nutritious, edible.
No one would buy a pound of algae or locust now... but a lot of people would buy a "Protein Cylinder".
I think this would really, really do well as a truck stop vending machine or in theme parks. No one's expecting quality, and convenience and selection would desensitize people to the contents before they brought it into their homes.

Its all dehydrated so it will last forever. Gets dehydrated in production so they will still need water.

And? I've eaten insects. It's purely a western thing to assume it's disgusting. Fried Locust taste better then McNuggets.

Matter of personal taste. I've also eaten locust, and fried ants, both were disgusting.

Most people eat bugs anyway. They get ground up in grain when its collected from the field and baked into bread.

Meal worms actually look quite appetising.
Really, if the food doesn't resemble what it started out as, I'm happy. I'd even eat spider if it didn't resemble the fething thing.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

All it does is process shapes of existing materials. Gicven a sufficiently large library of flavourings it could be useful, but only as the junk food of the 21st century.
