Just wondering what people think are currently the oldest 40K models still being sold by GW?

Looking at the new Eldar pre-orders I see the Eldar jetbike models are still the orginal ones. I seem to remember these being avaliable when I played 2nd edition 40K are there other models out there of that sort of vintage still on the GW shelves?

The Eldar bikes and space marine bikes are both pretty old. I think several of the other Eldar models are also from 2nd ed. (warp spiders, pathfinders, banshees, and the other aspects). Orks have mostly been replaced except for some of the grots and the wartrakk/ warbuggy and a couple of the big guns. The sprues for the Leman Russ and Chimera have been updated to make assembly easier, but the models still look pretty much the same except for a few new options. Dunno about the other armies off hand. I don't think termagaunts, hormagaunts, and genestealers have changed, but the bigger bugs definitely have, so I just might not be familiar enough with the lines.

Genestealers look pretty much the same, but Hormagaunts and Termagants have changed a lot.

the oldest model design still being produced? Could be the Sisters.
Eldar Jetbikes havent changed much.

What about models like Cypher?
Or those 'Armour through the ages' packs they make from the SM timeline?

Genestealers have changed quite a bit as well, their older models were a lot less streamlined than the ones available today.

I'm sure there are a couple of Chaos HQs, and maybe some marine ones too, that seem to have been out forever? Sorcerers, maybe?

... are not as old as some of the Eldar models still sold. Sisters were the last models released for 2nd edition.

But yes, as posted, stuff like the Goff Rockers are older.

Not quite - Necrons were released after Sisters.

Abaddon, Khârn, Ahriman, Fabius and a few others in the Chaos Space Marine range have been around for five editions and three changes in casting materials. They may not be the oldest miniatures still for sale, but they're positively ancient. And older than Sisters, too.

I know they're not *the* oldest, but Dante and Mephiston predate both Sisters and the Chaos characters. And BOY, does it show.
But yes, I'm pretty sure the oldest models that still count as a current Codex unit are either Space Wolves or Eldar, they were early 2nd ed.

Mordian Iron Guard look pretty ancient to me, but they are only in collectors, so GW at least acknoledges their age.

I know they had a few prominent pictures in the 3rd edition rulebook. That memory is burned into my brain because even as a middle schooler I thought going into battle in your dress uniform was pants on head levels of derp.

I think that's that the winner, him and Neal Stormcaller were some of the last RT models released.

The Marines in Historic Armor are older still

But are 'collectors range' so might not be considered in current production.

Among the first models released for 2nd edition so 1994 or so.

Ragnar is older.

Mid 2nd edition 1995 or so IIRC

I think the Warlock with the 2 handed grip is a RT model which would put him at 1990 or so.

Nope looks like I was right the first time, Historic Armor is the winner.

here they are in the 1991 catalogue

Then we may have a draw:
"Warlock and Force Staff 1" and "Warlock and Witchblade 2" (plus a variant of the third warlock, using the same body) are also from 1991 catalogue and still sold in metal (and even being 22 years old, they are better sculpts than the new Spiritseer).
Plastic Jetbike is from 1994 catalogue, but original design in metal is from 1989.

Space Wolf characters are from 1992, so a year later than Warlocks and SM variants. Eldar Phoenix Lords are from 1993.

I'd say that miniature in the collectors range should be kept as a separate category competing against other minis in the collectors range.

Why? The question was what is the oldest model still sold by GW. Collectors ranges are sold by GW. There was no 'in store' or any other qualifier.

Ah we can still have different prizes.

So SW characters are oldest you can find in a story.
SM Thunder Armor is oldest being sold.

No?

Oaka wins. Those haven't been redesigned since their original release, and they are still sold independently.
