Sounds like my Degus... The are really very intelligent animals, but only as long as they think there is a peanut in it for them. They will sit on you knee for ages as long as you can keep them waiting for the next bit of peanut, however as soon as they see a chance for more food somewhere else (Including climbing off the sofa, running across the living room, up the side of there cage and in to the peanut jar if it has been left open) they will be off.

So... Basically if you spoil them when they are younger they'll just keep sticking with you. Simple enough. Sounds like me and food too.
