Maybe.

What is heartbreaking is how high this would have been if it was better run, would I do better, I frankly do not know, but I have that gut feeling this one could be in a better position right now.

Ok, I would not drop because of lack of renders personally, I really hope they will fix them though and have some faith in what they will deliver, would fatally damage my perception of them if they do not deliver as close to the concept art as humanely possible, I am quite tolerant to delays, but when they say they will make the concept art in miniature form I expect them to do so.

On a more positive note that's the first and only mech I like, not only it looks good it has some art deco included in AND a lady with a side cap.

No one knows how this would have been, if something was different in the past. Maybe better, maybe the same. I would more tend to same, since it is pretty normal, that the pledges aren't that high in the middle of the Kickstarter.

I think a focus on the present is more appropriate and I think they're doing a good job. Most is and all will be unlocked at the end of the KS and on top of it there will be many upgrades and freebies in the last days, that will make the value of all the pledge levels very high. I wouldn't have thought there is coming that much but it is looking cool. I hope they have artworks for the Freebies and some of the upgrades and hopefully Raging Heroes is giving us more renders too.

Checking the current Kicktraq prediction ($581K), that will put us at the Kurganova Trike spot on that roadmap. Probably will go a bit higher than that with the usual last day rush.

I like the look of that KurgaMech. Then again, I've liked all of them so far and plan to get one of each.

They'll make it through their posted roadmap I believe.

Though had this KS not been so bizarrely run I bet it could have been a $2 million+ one.

Creating a good rendering from a digital sculpt is akin to taking a good photograph. It takes time, especially if you don't want the customers to rage about a perceived flaw in said rendering that's just there due to a sloppy screenshot and not due to the sculpting itself.

I disagree, but we can leave it at that so as not to derail the thread.

 Minx wrote:

Asking nicely is one thing, pretending or implying that RH somehow hides them from us is outright bizarre and still encountered way too often in this very thread. I too would like to see more renderings and i am sure we'll see more. But i don't think it'll help to constantly nag about it, especially in an accusing manner.

Edit: As we know there have been some RL issues as well as an unforeseen increased KS campaign work load just to (insufficiently) appease a vocal minority. I guess all that has had a negative impact on their lofty goal to finish the sculpting of most miniatures. So, let's see how much they accomplish until Saturday evening and then decide. Although judging from past products there really is no need to worry. Their miniatures have always been very satisfactory both in quality and design.

It's far more bizarre to have that work done and not show it. Unless of course you are afraid that your work will not pass muster with your audience, and will decrease the size of your loan. It's not too outlandish to speculate that this is happening, especially given the reaction that a couple of the renders have spawned.

Having supposedly worked on this Kickstarter for a year and having so little in the way of sculpts finished is also bizarre. But they may be done and just not showing it, which takes us back to my point above.

I would also disagree that their design work is always solid. The artwork that has been shown has been a mixed bag for a lot of folks, me included. Their final quality should be a safe bet though.

Ultimately for me it is all a non-issue. Several factors have led me to dropping my pledge, so I am now totally a spectator.

My feelings as well. This update a week ago could have brought in many new pledges as well as plenty of bumped up pledge levels. Today is the 4th of July holiday in the states, so a lot of people will not see this update until later in the weekend. I guess we will see if this is enough to drive this KS back up to the numbers it could have seen with a better managed KS.

Worse is that ends on Sunday when most of the US is still asleep. So they've basically got Friday/Saturday to pull in cash. I guess we'll see.

Freebies, no freebies, more communication, less communication, clearly displayed roadmap, no roadmap, I don't think any of these would have had much impact on the final pledge amounts for this project.
You either like the models and want them, or you don't. Freebies wouldn't change that, communication wouldn't change that (hell, many of us keep paying GW's absurd prices for no freebies and zero communication), a roadmap wouldn't change that. The only thing I think RH could have, and should have, done is show us more renders. Show us more of the (mostly) finished product. The actual product is what will put the proverbial butts in the seats. Everything else is just the sideshow.

Nah, DF didn't do everything right, not by a long shot (I don't think anyone would say that).

But what DF did do was communicate in a good faith manner with backers, and listen to feedback very, very well. No one's happy about the delays, but their communication during the campaign was absolutely excellent. Unfortunately, there is just not much to communicate at the moment as they wait on items to be cast months behind schedule... nature of the beast!

I'll eat my hat if Raging Heroes is anything close to on time, though.

Also interesting that this ends only 6-7 hours before Cthulhu Wars! I wonder if that will have any effect (I've seen a few people who have mentioned being pledged for both, and having to choose which to up / stick with / etc).

To an extent I'd agree with that. Where we would disagree is on freebies/discount. It doesn't have to be freebies honestly, a decent discount on the product works just fine. But when I, or many other people, are backing a company that has a history of being late on single miniatures and their estimate is already into next year I expect to benefit from my trust and money.

But yes. Seeing the actual models would be the best way to increase funding but I think they are scared it would actually negatively impact their interest free loan.

They already offer a very generous discount. Try this page to calculate your savings. And on top of that you get a bunch of free miniatures (from Lt. pledge onwards).

The last couple of renderings didn't negatively impact the funding, so why should that happen now?

Dreamforge: $42k out of a total of 205k (so 1/4)
Deadzone: $430k out of a total of 1216k (so 1/3)
Sedition Wars: $305k out of a total of 951k (1/3)
Reaper: 1366k out of 3429k (2/5)
Zombicide Season 1: 248k of 781 (less than 1/3)
Zombicide Season 2: 495k out of 2255k (less than 1/4)

And that's just a quick perusal of some of the miniature based kickstarters. Not even Bones, giving away the barn, pulled in 1/2 their total on the last two days. Just sayin.....

If I was to build a mostly troop based force the discount is around 16%. It's a fine discount for the $10 mini's. But we've been thru this. The majority of the items you'd need significant numbers of doesn't reach 20% and most hover around 15%-16%. And that's 15-16% on models that are around a year out (likely more) and that we haven't seen solid renders of. Or in the case of the two we've seen don't live up to the artwork we have been shown.

As for why it would happen now, your a herald. Why don't you ask them why they haven't put up more renderings, especially of the troops. If Raging Heroes agreed with you I think we would have seen more renders by now. But hey, maybe not. Like I said, maybe they are all at that same 80% mark of being done and not being able to be shown

The problem is though, we're running out of time and there's still lots for RH to actually do in that time.

  • Paid Unlocks

  • Freebie unlocks

  • Renders / prints to reveal.

  • Updates / Communication

  • To add to this list, one thing that has been promised (or so I am under the impression) but not yet provided is the grouping for shipping: people who only wanted to confine themselves to a single wave of shipping asked to know what was in which wave.

Indeed, that would have been on the list as well, though I stopped writing it to go read the update then got distracted by fire and meat outside. They have touched on the wave contents, but only in a brief and vague way.

Kind of amuses me that it was posted just as I was talking about their communication during the KS (see a few posts up)

An amusing co-incidence, but it does not materially alter the fact that they can be remarkably unresponsive in terms of communications.

In this, if nothing else, Mantic is head and shoulders above RH (Mantic has fantastic customer service).

Yeah, it doesn't change anything. I contacted them directly (via KS PM) last week and I've still not had a response other than to say they'd look at it and to remind them in a few days. Said reminder received nothing back from them, and it took getting a herald to ask them about PMs to get any sort of response and it was simply that they're still looking at it. It doesn't bother me that they're still thinking about it, it wasn't a simple yes/no question. What bothers me is that they didn't have the customer focus to reply to that effect via PM. I'm not alone in this, there was a chap chasing something repeatedly early on in KS comments who got told the same a few days later. It's generally not good customer service either, if I (or my employer) had done that when I worked in tech support we'd have had customers leaving in droves.

While 50% may be overstating it slightly, I would direct your attention to Kingdom Death: Monster, $918,217 out of a total of $2,049,721 (44.8%).

In fairness, KD:M was also not a 31 day campaign (46 days).

A good bit of it also depends on your pledge level. Using the pledge calculator based on my current EB General level, with about 1/3 characters 1/3 troops, 1/3 in artillery/bikes/mechs, I get almost a 39% discount. But, we also know that this is definitely a project designed for those who "go big" and want an entire army instead of just a few models.

EDIT: I would have to say Kingdom Death was a "monster" of its own.

So, now I've had chance to sit and read the update fully, it seems there's something interesting and ambitious stuff on there.

14 Free Upgrades - Based on the free upgrades we've seen so far these are probably just extra bits and bobs that they were most likely going to include anyway, but it's something to get people talking and maybe pledging.

8 Freebies - This includes the two we were expecting, mascot and freedom fighter. The rest look to be a mix of fleshing out spots in the heroines such as the Kurganova nurse and little things like the Cyber Zombie

6 uberSGs - These could get more money coming in, as it's certainly things that have been asked for during the KS run. Shame that the JBs don't get another unit type, especially as they're lacking heavy infantry. Though on the flip side, it's probably better for my wallet

1 Freebie Hacker Upgrade - I'm not sure where this falls in the list or what it could entail. I doubt it's another unlocked squad / heroine though, given the name.

So, 29 SGs announced, with details of the free upgrades to come as they're finalised. What it hinges on now is RH keeping up to date with the ones that we blow through and getting the free upgrade stuff finalised. All that on top of the other stuff that they need to do in the next 63 hours. Time to buy them a few gallons of coffee and chain them to computers

    Oh, and we're at $536,168

I think it's aimed at everyone really, though maybe for slightly different reasons. The main aim is to get new backers and persuade those who are already backing to increase their pledges. The USGs will probably do that, once we get some artwork for them.

For me, it's clear that Raging Heroes can do dynamic, single pose sculpts well. I'm in for many of the heroines and the snipers, but the troops... I don't feel they'll live up to their concept art. Only seeing renders, and even just WIPs, would give me reason to reexamine my current opinion.

So 29 more SGs? in 2 1/2 days? I really have to wonder what they've been thinking.

And really - 8 freebies? I can't understand why they haven't been drip-feeding these in at one per day for the last almost-week, It makes little to no sense.

    Update #55 · Jul 4, 2013 · 4 comments

Nertha, the Iron Freedom Fighter, is now included for free ib all pledges starting at Lieutenant Box level and above.

Nertha is about life and renewal.

The Iron Empire is in a terrible vicious circle of death. While they were in exile from Earth, its people were exposed to heavy radiations and a great number died. Most of the surviving ones became sterile or gave birth to babies that were not viable.

When these lost travellers discovered the Aegyptian artifacts, they were able to revive a great many of their people, by making them more or less undead.

So they are now desperately seeking a way to bring back life again into their world and, at the same time, they have become so dependent on the necromantic Aegyptian technology that they can't break free from the 'undeadness' of their society. Necromancy has become the main source of power, both physical and political, in the Iron Empire. And so, as much as the Empire claims to be at war with other factions to get a technology that would give them back fertility and life, most of the people in power don't want to let go of the amazing power and control that necromancy has given them.

The story of Nertha is a tragic one, yet also, it is a story of hope.

Being of noble lineage, Nertha died during the exile while she was pregnant. Brought back from death, she is now fated to forever be a soon-to-be mother who will never give life.

When she awoke to her new un-life, Nertha was in a state of shock for many months. When she recovered her sanity, her life in the high arcanes of power made her a direct witness to the unwillingness of the priesthood and of many political figures to break away from 'undead-ness' and bring back the hope of a real life in the Empire.

So Nertha has taken it upon herself to find the secret of true resurrection, or anything that could heal her people.

To do this, she has chosen to become a priestess in order to gain access to the Aegyptyian mazes and learn the secrets the priesthood is keeping. She's also undertaken many solo journeys to attempt to uncover details of rumours that are whispered about true resurrection.

No one knows exactly what she's learned and whether she plans to eventually overthrow the priesthood's hold on the people...

Her furtive, ghostly appearances on the battlefield and the miracles she has accomplished have made her a true legend and, for some even, a living goddess. And many pray for her visit as she has been said to be able to hold back Death Herself...

OK, that's the first freebie that really interests me. Has it been confirmed that we will be able to purchase the freebies at retail?
