It really is that bad.
So are Ork Boyz now 5 for $29?
And the upgraded Nob for a Boyz unit a separate upgrade sprue for $19?
I'm being rused, aren't I?

Well the price increases seem to be pre-build into each new release rather than happening as a bulk increase to the entire line. It just makes it more stealthy.

Well the repackaging is rather painful, if you happen to need that unit.
The weird thing is it's inconsistent; bikes just got cheaper (marginally), while DAs went up 40 odd percent. As days go by, I understand GW less and less.
Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.
Ok so as of this post, paints went up from $3.70 USD to $4 USD. Their spray paints went up to $16.50 USD from I don't remember how much. We shall see if models do go up in price as well.

Didn't they change DA to be 5 man boxes?
Did they get a price increase to compensate, points wise?
To be honest I probably wouldn't even notice another GW price rise because it has reached the point here for me in Australia that I simply don't look at new releases because I already know I can't afford/justify them.

They might be a couple more points but I can guarantee you they did not double.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

What's the point? By the time the new codex comes out you will just be left with a bunch of obsolete models that aren't as good as the new stuff is. And you won't even have finished building/painting it all anyway. Then before you know it, 7th edition will be here, and the army you thought was fun will be turned into a pile of dog's eggs.

This comes to mind when trying to understand GW

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007
First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.
Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.
Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.
Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

Point is I save myself a few quid (against future prices) on the models I wish to buy this year. Regardless of what GW does to their rules in the future, I have some models to paint/convert/play with.

But not buying them saves you the trouble of selling them all off when you finally realize you've had enough of GW's shenanigans. Not that I'd know anything about that...
If I was in the UK and I had an unfinished army, I'd probably figure out what I wanted and get it from an online discounter and call it done. Then for any future purchases, I'd switch to only going after used models.
The last time I did something like that was when the horrific fantasy chaos release came out and I wanted to make sure to get some Chaos Warriors before a future resculpt turned them into the same type of fecal spray that is the Forsaken. I don't use GW's rules (I play free and small press skirmish games for fantasy) so all I needed was a unit of 12 that I got off of ebay from Discount Games Store (a US based seller who breaks up battleforce/battalion boxes).
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
frozenwastes wrote: I was just thinking that Khorne Berzerkers need to be cut down to 5 models for $35-40 to bring them in line with all the other 40k 5 model elite boxes.
You'd be better off going to FW for Berserkers in that case... the plastic Berserkers are far to dated to compete at the price they are now!
While I get that price rises are likely to affect new people wanting to get into the game, why do they affect existing players who presumably have full armies already?
Surely it's not cheaper to completely invest in a new tabletop game than it is to buy a handful of new units and upgrade bits?
I'm more worried about what they are intending to do to Fantasy tbh, the Shadow Warriors box is a truly terrifying statement towards potential future Warhammer army costs.
Although I must remember to grab a couple more of the Ork fighters sooner rather than later at some point.

As an Aussie, I've been sick of the prices since I got into the game. But in the end, I guess it's alright. Over here, at least, most people play WH40k or WH Fantasy. Community-wise, it's by far my best option. It's not like I have to buy models consistently, that's just the urge you get.. human after all.
Well I guess now we know why GW has increased the release rate. I am sure that they are thinking they can raise prices more than once a year if they release more than one codex per army per year. Just wait for the Eldar Sam Hain update.

What makes the Shadow Warriors so bad? They come in at 50USD/10 compared to 41USD/10 for the other plastic Specials (and vs 66USD/10 for the Finecast stuff.) A 20% price hike is definitely GW being GW, but it doesn't seem *terrifying*.

That's a pretty good point actually. I'm sure that a lot of us older players have quite a large collection so it's just the shiny new toys and new codexs we need unless we start a new army or replace an old one.
I'm sure I've got enough plastic crack to last me a few years

Do you have full armies of every race already? I assume not. If you choose to start one, you become as much affected as someone just starting. Sticking to just one army is boring imo.

Maybe, but what about 5 greatswords for near on the price of ten at the moment, ten stormvermin instead of twenty, ten Goblins, etc etc. All be priced nearer to the new Shadow warrior price point. That would be my concern.
