I've noticed that there appears to be no necron missiles or similar types of ordnance. Why is that? The Eldar are almost as advanced as the necrons, and they still use missiles, so it can't be a question of tech.

Simply put why waste effort building a missile when you can do the same amount of damage with a energy blast or tesla discharge

If its not tech, then it becomes simple preference. Also, physical ordnance requires manufacturing and support capabilities that pure energy weapons don't require.

True, but won't a missile be more destructive? I would think it would have the potential to be deadlier than an directed energy weapon.

That incident with the Doomday Ark overloading and detonating comes to mind; that was basically a bomb, and a missile is just a bomb with an engine.

Necrons also make a huge use of teleportation technology. Maybe they just teleport the explosive, no need to fling it into space. No evidence for this, just personal theory.

Yeah, that's a good point. That would be more efficient than making a weapon that could be shot down.

Aren't missiles and torpedoes unaffected by shields though?

Well, think of it this way....no supply lines!
Gauss and Tesla weapons will fire reliably until the thing weilding them DIES
Which isn't very easy to do.

Think of it this way, the US made the M16, Russia made the AK47, both are good at what they do (shoot bullets to good effect) but they are divergent technology each from a unique culture

Missiles go boom and damage things through heat, shrapnel and detonation shockwave. Necron weapons either dissolve your body or route lightning bolts through you until you explode... this is fiction here, you can't compare magical uber tech to stuff we use today

"Aren't missiles and torpedoes unaffected by shields though?"

Depends on the source. Ruleswise BFG has Torpedoes bypass shields, but the Torpedo rules are gamist and a bit questionable fluffwise (heavier armour SHOULD make a torpedo more likely to explode harmlessly, instead heavier armour makes it more likely the torpedo will carry on its merry way as if it didn't hit anything..)

A recurring fixture of Epic ever since the Adeptus Titanicus however has been Warp Missiles: A cruise missile fitted with a warp drive allowing it to bypass active void shields (it comes out of Warp Space inside the shield).

Exactly what I was going to say, Explosives cannot be stored for such long periods of time.

Necrons have weapons that hurtle energy from Deadstars, which bypass Void Shields. They don't need Missiles.

It was a lance-like weapon fired from some Necron Ships. It was quoted as "Fragments of deadstars" that ripped through Voidshields, and tore battleships apart with ease. It was also very quick, being quoted as being slightly below the speed of light.

It would be interesting to find out that the Necrons somehow can harvest the material from a neutron star and shoot it at near light speeds.

Talk about tea bagging Tau rail weapons.

An AGM-114 Hellfire is a fifty-kilogram weapon. That's fifty kilograms for one shot. Betcha the batteries for a heavy gauss cannon or a lascannon weigh less than fifty kilos per shot.

I'd advise not using BFG Necrons as evidence in a discussion about pretty much anything; they had...balance issues.
