PIPs from last night:

So - Cream cloak=fail...
No, it was truly awful, so I switched to red, which looks pretty good - it's deeper red and less purple than in these pics (after a second go at it this afternoon)

The tabard... awful too - Went all experimental and tried purple - which looked ok at this stage.. until (after these pics were taken) I over-worked it and now it's a dark horrible mess...
So I used isopropyl alcohol to clean the purple back to a lighter horrible mess which I can hopefully re-do tonight...

O the joys of miniature painting...

SelvaggioSaky - the red will stay, but the purple is gone - I couldn't get it to work and it was making the centreline of the model too dark - so i've stripped it back (gak, what a mess!) and have started (carefully) on a lighter colour... also need to lighten the boots a little.

I'm one mistake away from throwing this model into Simple Green to strip it all the way back and start again...

The Brimstone Inquisitor Hugues de Ardens:

The Brimstone Inquisitor Hugues de Ardens of the Ordo Malleus is pic-captured here in his bronzed plate-armour, wielding both his melta-pistol Infernus and the Relic-axe Sinslayer, just prior to the commencement of the final assault on the Cult of Skvorax.

The derogative name Brimstone was bestowed upon him early in his career thanks to his propensity for loudly preaching 'fire and brimstone' testaments as he rained furious vengeance upon his foes. Aware of the power of symbology, de Ardens adopted the name as a title, and often refers to himself on the third person as "Old Brimstone". It is also a reference to his use of his melta-pistol Infernus.

The Relic-axe Sinslayer is an ‘untouchable’ weapon that blunts psychic energy, and is thus a perfect match for de Ardens, who possess no psychic ability - a rareness for a Malleus Inquisitor - beyond an iron faith and force of will. Throughout most of his two hundred and three year career he had been an extrovert proponent of the Monodominants, having personally called down the cleansing fire of Exterminatus on thirteen worlds. However, twenty-five years ago - in the aftermath of the Xolomon Deviance, where ninety-nine Grey Knights of the one hundred and one of his strike force were killed by the daemonhost army of Quarrus Xolomon - de Ardens concluded that his strict adherence to Puritan methodology had contributed to the terrible loss, and perhaps if he had followed the more radical strategy of Inquisitor Kallatar, the victory over Xolomon may have been less hollow.

Practical and pragmatic, de Ardens has always been unconcerned by what others think of him, and while he may still despise mutants and aliens, he retains his puritanical faith but on his own terms, rather than those presented by the Monodominants, and he is now known to employ at least one Sanctioned xenos within his retinue.

SelvaggioSaky - Thanks.
The Inquisitor has been sidelined, but only after I masked off the tabard and under coated it again - the Kroot is up for painting next, and when I get around to the red on him (that's the tie-in color for this retinue) I'm going to make the tabard red (as suggested by KrautScientist and as I should have done in the first place)... I might freehand some edge trim in gold or possible an ][ but we'll see...

Igandris - Thanks for commenting - the heat damage may be a little too purple.

SelvaggioSaky wrote:Nice!

SelvaggioSaky - Thanks - and well, perhaps this:

or possibly:

There will be cables running from the power-plant device on his back to the weapon that will insert into the drum section alongside the wood, where it currently looks a little odd.
And the missing arm will be gripping another cable that will also run to the gun.

Problems:
Is the pose ok?
Is gun simply too ma-hoosive up top?
Which head?

Fixes:
I could remove the drum half of the weapon and build something a little slimmer?
Or I could bring the weapon down across the belly, supported on an Aliens smart-gun like rig?

In regards to the heads:
Fill in the 3 holes and just make the helm smooth?
Remove the hair from the 3-lens head and replace with cable-dreads?

Thoughts?

I think the gun would look great if positioned across the belly.
I think the first head looks better, maybe just fill the two holes on the left and put some kind of bionics in their place?

Igandris - Thanks for the input - tonight I will do some position tests and post the pics, across the belly, a slimmer rifle on the hip (I really like the cool on-the-hip pose).
I like the first head (we'll call him Gasmask-dude) too, and like your idea of bionics - in 'Ghost in the Shell' - still my all-time favourite anime - all the visors had offset optics, and I really like that look.

Cheers!

I personally like 1 and 3

As a side note I wonder what it is about the Nurgle Lord model that makes it so everyone making an Inquisitors retinue uses it. This isn't a bad thing but it's almost like the model just screams "Inquisitor".

Anywho keep up the good work

SelvaggioSaky, Warboss - Thanks!

Voting (on 3 forums so far):
1 - 2 votes
2 - 2 votes
3 - 1 vote...

Warboss, there are some almost mandatory models used by many Inq28 modellers - the Nurgle Lord, Dark Elf Sorceress, the Cairn Wraith and the Necromancer, to name a few - I think personally it's because they are really good sculpts in PLASTIC not Finecast ... plastic is cheaper, holds detail far better with the new moulding tech, and they are sold as one off models. Everytime GW releases new models I go through the lists looking for plastic - there are so many models I wish they'd switch to plastic - Dark Eldar Mandrakes, for example...

3 - 1 vote

Igandris - Definitely a great suggestion!

And another vote for head 2 brings it to 5!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Some small progress:
Front strap of the chest rig, pistol in place - and belly wound filled in:

Back strap for the chest-rig - the gun strap (as suggested by Jeff Vader over at Ammobunker) will join to this - and note the additional mask-strap on the back of the head - going to stud this, I think:

Gun mod - removed the rail that was going to be part of a servo-arm rig, replaced it with a hand-grip:

Looks very good, I personally like head 3 the most and number 2 would get the second place imo.

Will you be filling up the wounds on his skin or will you leave them there?

Oh, and the gun, what position will he be holding it in? 'Cause a good way to solve the OOT problem with the gun is to maybe have him supporting it by his hip, barrel raised up in the air. Just a suggestion though.

SelvaggioSaky, gretar - Thanks.
- The gun is going on his hip the way I first invisaged, with the addition of a strap and power cables - I've just completed the gun-strap and mounting the ammo and pouches on the chest rig...
- Head no 2 has just been completed (pics tomorrow).
- The holes in his pants have been filled but part of his 'charm' is his manky skin condition so I've removed the lumps but kept the holes - radiation poisoning, perhaps?
- Pics tomorrow (it's 2330 my time...)

Cheers!

So, here's the strap for the weapon in place:

Still haven't worked out a way to actually connect the strap to the shoulder/back strap:

Is this working?

My other idea is to have an under-slung strap hanging from the weapon and an exo-skeleton-type support mechanism running from the spine mount, across the back of the shoulder and down the arm... Elysium exo-suit style.

c0j1r0, SelvaggioSaky - Thanks1
- And to answer both questions, let's have a look below...

WIPs:
- Mono-optic done, and looking good I reckon...
- front cable and left arm in place, some extra 'power-nodes' on the armour (just seeing what they look like...)

Some possible mods:
- Name-plate on armour pad instead of power-nodes (it's an old Black Templar brass-etch - I could flip it over, but I like the ambiguity of the random word):

- Right arm mod 1 - strap only, imagine another cable exiting the spine-module and inserting into the right forearm as the support-rig:

- Right arm mod 2 - strap and exo-skeleton arm - imagine a small diameter cable exiting the spine-module and connecting to the exo-arm:

The monocular definitely suits great, imo, but I'm not sure about this curve in his belly - looks like he's trying to eat the hose with his paunch...
Reminds me of this:

These extra 'power-nodes' on the shoulderpad looks good, though I would add another one there.
