Just discovered this thread while browsing, very impressed. Nothing I like to see more than personalization and character added to models, and you have that in spades. Keep it up!

War Kitten- Nothing evens the odds like a reaper chainsword to the naughty bits
Sgt. Vanden- And now I'm a whale with panties. Can't see how this day can get any better.

Likewise, I have to say this blog is simply fantastic, i always love a good inquisitor thread, the personality and attention to detail is phenomenal, both of which you have in excess! I will be an avid reader here from now on, don't stop!

Warboss_Waaazag, TheEyeOfNight, J-paint - Thanks all!

I lied - next stage wasn't washing, it was a redo on the flames and added a red strip to the hood:

Post oil-washing:

- Mmm... seems the robe has gone a bit darker than I wanted, but next step is highlighting, so hopefully some careful brushwork should fix it up!

Finished the Redeemer but need daylight to do final checks and take decent pics, so here's some WIPs of the never-ending Boss Brute conversion to hold you all over:

- Cut away front upper spine and replaced with a GS mold-copy of the back spine, and added some 'hide the bad GS sculpting' hoses:

- Got rid of those terrible vent-stacks, ran the hoses from the front into the holes that were left and GSd them into place
- You can also see the rest of the GS-copy of the spine:

- Didn't like those half-cable/half-flesh cables so replaced them with these Dragonforge ones
- Had to rebuild the hydraulics underneath after some over exuberant knifing...

- Built a base and positioned the feet - unusually for me I plan on painting the base and Boss Brute as one:

- Left arm with claw hand made from parts of the Helbrute and bits of the Mauler-fiend:

- Right arm, mostly mauler-fiend, with a home-made multi-barrel obligatory Boss Brute Big Gun - needs GS-flesh added around the base to make it look like the flesh has grown around the weapon:

Thanks for looking!

Dr H - Thanks!
I'm really happy with the robe, because the last time I attempted cream clothing was on the Inquisitor and it was a messy disaster... The red stripe was a spur-of-the-moment thing, happy I did it because it helps pull the eye to the face

Cheers!

Agreed the red stripe was an inspired idea! Have to say though for me the work on the book and the flames are oustanding, really nice work! the hellbrute conversion really needs more comments by the way! I think its awesome! you really don't see enough modification of that model, and you are leading the way most brilliantly, cant wait to see it together!

J-paint - Thanks!
- The book was fairly simple, just spatter and washes, but those flames... o, there were some trying times blending up from white to red and back...
- Concerning the Boss Brute - I can't wait to see the damn thing back together myself - I have made it far more complicated than it probably needs to be!

Sorry aint posted of late but it looks pretty nice love the stripe down the hood lifts the model, to be honest i would not think that would work but it really defines the model.

As usual nice conversion work all though a bit of a sprue line present but let you of the only thing I aint ovally fond of is the spear head it seems to protrude the models body length.
I would have either used a smaller bladed end or an alternative, but other wise great work and the splatter technique works a charm.

Great conversions and kitbashings all around

The Redeemer looks ace, grand job on the flames, and the red stripe - spur of the moment and all - was really an inspired touch, it really does bring focus to the model in an awesome way.

- I'm learning not to over think the painting once I begin ('way over think it before hand - we're talking days and days!) but just go with what feels right

Young_Logan - Thanks!

The Boss Brute work continues a-slow, tho no pics at the moment.

My next mini up on the painting line-up will be the Gunslinger:

Astute observers will notice she's had a change of legs - much more dynamic this way.
Now all she needs is some really good sanding and some 40k-ification and she'll be ready for paint!

Oh my, now that is a cool pose and a cool model in general, how do you plan to 40k-ify her?

J-paint -Thanks!
- For her - belt, with 2 rear pouches, some kind of holster 'clip' x 2, and possibly some sort of mono-sight
- For the weapons - maybe small reflex sights

Nice pose but I think the head needs lifting up slightly as she seems to be staring down away from her potential targets, also will you be adding any design where the arms meets torsos ?
I think some kinds of ruffle to match her neck design might work just a thought

Happy Holidays by the way

LDD - Thanks and Happy Holidays to you too!
- her chin dips into the ruff and there's a distinct hollow there (in the ruff) so I'm leaving it alone and putting her head position down to shooting using peripheral vision
- the slight weirdness this and the ruff impart are all easily explainable under the 40k 'Blanchitsu' look
- No change to the front of the arm/body join, though I'm toying with changing the back slightly to show more skin... no arm ruffs please, we're 40k not Warhammer!

Thanks for the ideas though, I appreciate all crits because they often push designs beyond what I initially envision - take the Prosecutor as a very good example of this!

Cheers!

Started working on a proper belt for the Gunslinger:

- GS rolled out, allow to harden, then cut to size
- Buckle cut from brass etch floor grating (from old GW basing kit, I think)
- Strap threaded and glued into place

- Then discovered you can't poke holes in a GS strap that thin once it's hardened
- So made a template, Vaselined it up, rolled a GS strap out and poked holes in it while it was wet

Tonight, Pinky, we thread the strap! ... or possibly takeover the world...

Nice.
Is the GS fully cured when you start cutting it up for straps and belts?
I take it that you can't drill the holes in the cured GS.

I have yet to use GS and didn't know it was that bendy when cured.

Dr H - yes, the GS is fully cured, however it is very thin and even my smallest drill bit just chewed it up
- To make straps, after I roll a sheet of GS out, I keep it supple by putting it in a small sealer plastic bag and coated with Vaseline... just remember to wipe it clean before trying to superglue it to a model
-When dry, GS is very spongy - you can drill thicker bits, and cut it, and even sand it, but I've found for sculpting proper and for cutting/sanding etc that a 50/50 mix of GS and Milliput is so much better - it's easier to sculpt hard edges, and can be sanded very smooth

Thanks for looking!

Interesting (especially about the bag thing). Ta.

Yeah, I'm used to working with milliput, but there are occasions where a bit more flexibility would be useful.

Keep it up.
