Drones are in the news for all sorts of horrible reasons, but Domino's might salvage its reputation somewhat by eventually—someday—using them to deliver pizza. The company's DomiCopter—a joint effort by U.K. drone specialist AeroSight, Big Communications and creative agency T + Biscuits—is an eco-friendly machine capable of carrying pizzas in heatwave bags for impressive distances without refueling, similar to how a swallow would carry a coconut. Sadly, it's also a threat to the labor force of guys who get stoned in their cars and forget where you live.

As silly as this is, I'm still loving the idea

I'm impressed they managed to work monty python into a story about dominos and helicopters so easily.

And as I pointed out to my girlfriend when I first saw this, it's an awful idea. Not for any health/something reason, but because drunk people will try and steal the helicopter. Not may, not could, but will.

I'm assuming you would have to pay via card prior to delivery, otherwise this would be nothing but a fancy way of delivering unscrupulous people free pizza.

Do we have to tip the pizza-copters?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If a person in a car cannot deliver a hot pizza , I'm trying to figure out how an airborne vehicle could.

I really have a hard time believing this is a real deal. There's too much potential for liability, theft and vandalism.

It's a dreadful idea, but I'm all for it, actually. For two rocks on the ends of a string and a little tinkering I get a brand new toy and a pizza to eat while I play with it!

Will PETA be selling pizzas on the side whilst they buzz hunters?

I have to admit, I was pretty dubious about this as well. But digging into it, it looks like the visual effects people teamed with an actual civilian UAV vendor who does indeed make that airframe, which can indeed carry nearly 9 pounds.

Obviously they're not really going to deliver pizzas with the damn thing, but I'm pretty sure they really did the flight as seen in the vehicle, as opposed to it being 100% digital effects such as in the below video:

I could see it being done, but I think it would be really situational.

I'm fairly certain if I saw one flying around, I have to pull out a .22 and use it for target practice...

No, that would hurt the pizza.
It looks like it is radio controlled, use a jammer

I just have this vision of the "pizza" delivery of the future being dropped in a laser-guided precision cannister. You then open it and retreive the pizza.

I wouldn't have to be drunk to be willing to steal a pizza delivering helicopter.

Likely how it would work is that it wouldn't be receiving any communications in realtime to control it. I'd imagine anything radio operated would just be a queuing of addresses that gets uploaded whenever it returns to its store. I imagine that it WOULD be recording video and transmitting it back semi-realtime, so as to be able to deal with those guys who take the pizza AND the drone. I would probably try to take the drone. I realize this might make me a not good person.

I still prefer Pizza Hut.

It is certainly the best of the chains, and one of the few I can eat without a massive stomach-ache afterwards. Papa John's and Dominos are just far too much grease.

At the risk of being the pretentious pizza guy, I prefer Ferraro's, the tiny independent shop a block away from my apartment. Only place I've ever found that puts real sausage on their pizza.

So is this drone delivery paid by credit card over the phone or are they relying on people to give exact change to the drone?

And actually, I could see this creating jobs.

With a drone you need a technician or 2 to keep them functioning properly. plus a potential recovery team. This instead of just a dude with a car.

Ugh, Pizza Hut is so much worse than dominos. The dough tastes like cardboard. I'd rather have garlic butter crust. Still, pizza-bearing helicopters is definitely worthwhile.
