Eye of Terror... I think

Just out of curiosity... how is a typical "blob" unit of IG infantry set up?

Really with so many awesome options and choices how are people running blobs?

Also what heavy weapons teams and how are they equipped?

Thinking of starting traitor guard and am curious

Nowadays with allies, usually they're set up with Power Axes on the sergeants, and either a SW or DA character to give them ATSKNF along with other buffs.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

I run mine at 3 infantry squads, 1 pcs, and usually throw my lord commissar in there for good measure, then camp the obj while my two vet squads in chimeras go get forward objectives. I go for straight man power and take a heavy weapons team on the side, leaving them out of the blob.

What weapons and upgrades do you take normally? How does it do for you?

I will add a power axe, 1x flamer, vox, and melta bomb to each infantry squad to help give a little variety.

my pcs usually has vox, standard, and either flamers or meltas along with a power weapon.

nothing too shiny, run run run the blob to position and first rank second rank fire away.

they flames provide good solid overwatch, melta to battle think things like heavies and teqs. power weapons for the challenge and vox to make sure orders work. Oh and standard just cause

My blobs usually have plasmaguns and, if I'm making them the core of the army, twin plasma pistols on the sergeants. Then I twin-link them with a LRGS or Bring It Down!. hehe.

Plamsa guns and/or LC. Anything else tends to be over spending or suboptimal.

Depends on what the roll is, But regardless you will probably want a commissar or two(to deny challenges and still get LD bonus) or a DA/SW character as already mentioned.

Then if your gunna sit back with them and provide fire support lascannons and plasma guns are good as they can take on most targets, sometimes melta isnt bad for those walkers or land raiders that get to close.

If you want to move up I suggest at least throwing a power axe and melta bombs on the sergeants and commissars. The axes give you s4 ap 2 and the melta bombs allow you to destroy walker and wound monstrous creatures. SW's are your choice, flamers are great for over watch and creating wounds for assault, melta guns can hurt most targets and plasma as well. If your doing the assaulting flamers or melta guns arent bad but I dont recommend doing the assaulting, a blobs strength is in FRFSRF and just putting mass wounds on your opponent. I would only assault when you have creed and you order For the honor of cadia for s4 attacks, s5 with the axes and you get fearless, it would tie up an opponent pretty well as your now fearless for that turn as well.our

Some people run vox casters but if you have a Commissar or marine psyker in the squad then youve got LD 9 or 10 and if you fail an order then your guys need to learn to speak! lol

Hope this helps.

Q: Can an Imperial Guard unit use the Leadership of an allied
Independent Character that has joined their squad for the purposes of
receiving an order? (p29)
A: No.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

The idea is a large blob I can use to hang in the back in a home objective and bubble wrap my artillery

Yup you will then want them to have lascannons and a commissar or two, one if you take a space marine to lead the blob, then the special weapons are up to you and if you think the enemy will get to you then add power weapons and melta bombs.

Most folks I see running them keep them very cheap with just power axes and meltabombs. These are usually blobs that are meant to advance into midfield and take advantage of FRFSRF and allied ICs that can cast prescience.

But as the poster stated he wants a blob to sit back and wrap around his artillery. If they sit back they will have to wait for the opponent to come to make use of the lasguns, where armed with HWT's the unit could shoot at any target in the game with lascannons if they were in there sights.
