Hi Dakka,
Off to London for a couple of days, and was wondering where would be a good place to go buy some 40k while I was there. I'll be in central london mostly, but may be able to do a trip somewhere if it isn't too far!
Thanks Dakka

Dark Sphere. And Dark Sphere, And Dark Sphere,
Spend £100 and you get 25% discount. Great range of paint, Kromlech stuff, and nerd talk available too
It's on York Road, just by the side of Waterloo station.

Isn't Forge World located there? I'd totally go see Forge World.

Forge World is a bit of a trek - Nottingham. A day trip or more.
There's a little Wargames store (called Orc's Nest - thanks Howard) in Seven Dials, GW on OXford St and COvent Garden, but Dark Sphere are the ones. Stock turns over fast so check if there's anything particular you need and reserve if necessary. Lots of accessroies, KR cases, blah blah blah. One of the best UK stores alongside trolltrader. They run 40k Games Wednesday nights, book them on Facebook.
I know I'm making like a paid shill... so check out their website: http://www.darksphere.co.uk/

Dark Sphere is top for GW and many wargames, Orc's Nest does board games and miniatures that Dark Sphere doesn't (like Reaper).

I agree with what was said above. I visited London for the first time in April, and Dark Sphere is the best shop I saw there bar none. The staff was friendly, great stock of lots of different games, and I managed to get an OOP 70mm Knights Models Boba Fett. I have to admit, I nerdgasmed. Also, after you leave Dark Sphere, the London Eye and Namco arcade are right across the street, and it's only a 10 minute walk from there to Westminister Abbey, which is absolutely beautiful.

So it looks like Dark Sphere is the place to check out in London? Good, I'll be there this weekend for a day while on my way to Greece and I wanted to check out some cool hobby shops. By the way. do they sell a bunch of Knight Models miniatures there or was that like a limited thing you happened upon?

DS is good for wargaming stuff.
Orcs Nest is a nice little store too but caters more for RPG and boardgames. It has he added advantage of being right near Forbidden Planet which you can spend hours in.
Also this isn't an either or decision, DS (waterloo) is a short hop on the tube (northern line) to Tottenham Court Road which has Orcs Nest/Forbidden Planet and the Oxford Street GW near by.
You can do all of that in a morning and then lunch in Covent Garden.

Definitely, definitely Dark Sphere. Great shop with great staff and the cheapest place to buy GW products in London.
The beauty of them though is, as has been said, they also stock a lot of 3rd party products such as Scibor, Kromlech etc as well as a fantastic range of paints and brushes. They stock Vallejo, Reaper, P3, Army Painter and Citadel paints.
Discount in store is 20% but you could order online and pick up in store for 25% or you get 25% if you spend over £100 which is easily done.
They also stock loads of other cool stuff like Flames of war, X-Wing, Privateer Press etc.

They're actually worth visiting for the paint alone. If you chat to Dan, the manager, he'll tell you about the different covering properties of the different paints; they'll tell you exatly which army painter inks are the old Citadel ones, they know all the merits of Vallejo vs Citadel vs P3.. they even schooled me in exactly how to use Army Painter primer (always inside; six inches away; horizontal sweeps).
So, MarkCron, if I can be happy walking out of the shop with a £8 can of paint, think how good it will feel dropping £100 in there!
and in fact, you don't have to spend £100 for the 25% off - it's £100 at RRP, so you only need shell out £75.
And the Hole In The Wall Pub, just by the station, does a v nice Sharp's Doom Bar. Mmmmmm....

I remember seeing a limited amount of knights model stuff there. I think just what was left stock-wise from oop stuff. However I was in London at the beginning of April so they may have expanded the range since then.

Don't bother going to GW Covent Garden. By all means go and look around Ccovent Ggarden, it's awesome, but the GW there is small and useless.
The one in Oxford Street, however, has some really cool gaming tables and painted armies that are totally worth looking at if you're in that area.

Hi Dakka,
I can't work out how to get photo's up, but just wanted to thank Dakka for the tips.
Had a great trip and picked up a nice filler for my Crons (just a battleforce, 6 destroyers, some Lych (for making Crypteks mainly) and a couple of stalkers) Great range of stuff at Dark Sphere, but they were totally out of XWing
Also took in a river cruise, science museum, Tower of London, a show. Had lunch today at Byron Hamburgers - they are fantastic and you need to eat there. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, also, went to Hamley's and they have the coolest lego models built. Royal Family, no probs. Iron Man - tick.
