I noticed new apocalypse "one click collections" on the GW site. I know previous such collections tended to be the same price as everything individually. I just looked at the pricing of the "Windrider Host" for Eldar and was pretty excited as it would be an easy way to start a jetbike army that I have wanted for a while. The problem is that if you add up all the individual items and compare it is a 30 dollar difference. Is there any logic why the bundle is actually costing more? Are my math skills that abysmal?

Yes. The logic of GW wanting more money.

I can't believe anyone is unhappy about this, they're doing us a service, that extra $30 is the service charge, obviously. Just imagine how many megahurtz you're saving by going one-click instead of adding each individual boxes, they're saving you both money and time! This is great service! If only every online store would do the same, I've always wanted to pay more! In fact, I hate money so much I'm setting fire to all my moneys!

As much as I've consistently been disappointed by gw lately, I have been blown away by this new Apocalypse stuff. I mean really, $30 isn't that much I guess its best to just accept that everything they sell is RIDICULOUSLY overpriced and move on?

Because it breaks every rule of thumb in buisness!

The idea behind large order discounts is that you are enticing the customer to do the math, say "hey this is cheaper!", and put that little "buy me" nugget in their heads.

All this does is cause the customer to say, "what the hell gw?"

This is failure and customer abuse on an apocolyptic scale. Some people will get screwed out of more cash.

I thought the same thing. I mean, don't get me wrong, i know there's people out there with that kind (and more) of disposable scratch... but jesus h... 1600 bucks on terrain ?

Even if i was a millionaire i'd pause at that.

Yeah, you think thats bad here in AUS it's 2,167 for the terrain set, and the book is 124(Limited editions 270). With 2167 I could probably build a gaming table and terrain and still have change. This is why I do not by from GW anymore and only buy their products when there is no other options.

Surely a tip-off to Trading Standards (UK regulatory body for such matters) would fix this particular matter. Implying that a bundle is cheaper when it's in fact $30 US Dollar Monies more surely must be illegal practice?

I have that kind of disposable income but am not stupid enough to spend it on plastic terrain for a game that I play once per month. I'd rather sock it away in my 401k and watch it grow than waste it.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

That made me chuckle.

I too think it's ridiclous, i remember when Apocolypse came round the first time the bundles were really good deals! The good deals were most of what I was looking forward to. But no.

Case in point, Tide of Spawn. 10 Spawn and 10 Chaos Marines for like $110.

My friend got 2 boxes of them and uses them all the time. People ask him why he spent so much on Spawn. He laughs and says "I didn't, I bought these when GW was sometimes cool".

The item descriptions are shameless, they're outright begging people to buy this stuff...the big carry case in particular has a nauseating description of gross salesmanship. As a professional sales rep, games workshop makes me want to barf.

Anyone else notice the Necron Infinite Phalanx formation? I always wanted to field an army maxed out with warriors, and this formation seemed like just what I was looking for. The formation comes with 10 squads of Necron Warriors (120 models) for the same price of getting 10 individual Necron Warrior kits. Only problem is that the individual warrior kits come with scarabs, the Infinite Phalanx doesn't. So you're paying the same to get less...

750 bucks for a ton of infantry and a couple of terminator squads.../sigh

I have several thousand dollars worth of minis, but I would never spend more than 3 or 4 hundred all at once, unless it was on a Titan, and even then, that would be a long and thought out purchase (as well as a lengthy argument with my wife about necessary expenses)

The terrain set is really cool, don't get me wrong...it comes with a lot of really cool stuff that I could actually put to good use...but $1500 yikes.

It's because GW is no longer making new SoB metals, they're selling old one.

If they made formation 1-click bundles for them they'd run out more quickly.

Not a good thing.

The catachan bundle is just the catachan battleforce with the sentinel swapped for another infantry box. If you buy the battleforce and a box of infantry, it is the same price as if you bought the bundle.

Yeah I don't understand this at all. If it was alot cheaper to buy in bulk it would make sense. But then anyone who buys directly from GW doesn't care about saving money anyway.

The real irony in there is that the Third War of Armageddon had a massive impact on one of the major Orders Militant of the Sororitas. I continue to hope that there'll be some inclusion of Sisters Formations in the rules for Apocalypse (including some reference to their participation on Armageddon), but I admit to a bit of irritation that they were overlooked in terms of the one-click-purchase formations. As Matt.Kingsley pointed out, it's probably because they want to maintain the illusion of stock in SoB for as long as possible, and they were worried that if they put up a Sisters bundle, the attention-starved Sororitas players would buy it anyways 'just because', despite the massive expense involved.

As regards the rest of the pricing, I doubt Trading Standards would get involved. Largely because (AFAIK) there're no examples of something being definitively 'more expensive' in the bundle. The Eldar example has been sorted as a case of individual unit purchases, rather than squadron. The Necron example (the lack of Scarabs) is open to interpretation because, as yet, none of these bundles has shipped - as such, we don't know if the bundle will arrive simply as a bunch of off-the-shelf shrink-wrapped boxes (and if that's the case, the Scarabs will be there). It's more the sort of thing that BBC Watchdog concerns itself with, since it's more 'bad practise and inferred misrepresentation' than 'provable dishonesty' - and GW is too small a company to get Watchdog's attention without a massive complaint-campaign.

I think that what everyone is going to do is start to use eBay or use eBay even more. With these new price hikes, GW is showing once again that they don't care about anyone else but $$.
