Allegedly.

Love seeing this, Lego. You and Yak keep up the good work and I'm fairly certain we'll stay on top for a good long time.

If you look at the graph the start of the decline of Warseer is around 2008/2009 when the Mods started calling themselves "The Warseer Inquisition" and threatening people with the "Ban Hammer" for minor infractions ( there was also a change to the senior mods at the time with the unpopular one's taking a more active role and the lenient ones leaving altogether )

We call our MODs the MODquisition... but they also have a sense of humour...

Thanks for the kind words of praise all. It is always additionally motivating to see compliments for our hard work!

To answer some of the specific questions that were put forth:

Kilkrazy: the miniatures page dont release data that I can scrape in quite the same way as other forums so I cant get an accurate comparison. Their traffic is a lot lower than dakka though from the small bits of data I've gathered.

Kronk: Gathering the numbers is more than 75% of the work and I cant let others do that without giving them an unacceptable amount of direct access to our database so that wont happen, but thanks for the kind offer.

Search engine: The search engine is functional-ish at least. I could sink a lot of time into improving it bit by bit, but it would lead to an increase in maintenance and server requirements (and therefore cost) and is boring as hell to work on, so gets a very low priority when it comes to improving the site. I'd much sooner work on fun new features and fixing things that are broken in the general site than the search engine, especially when google does a good job of indexing the publicly viewable content in sitesearch anyway. The gallery search engine is a different matter though and that will get an overhaul sooner rather than later.

Dakka phone app: A general phone app is beyond the maintenance time I have available. Every change would need to be tested on multiple handsets and implemented multiple times as we only have a partial MVC coding structure on account of me doing some rough rapid development rather than needing to be too enterprise-y. I wont rule it out as an option in the future, but there is a massive amount of work required to get to a position where it would be possible to do.

kryczek: Saltire flag is dependent on the way you vote. The IP/country detection software we use does not track scotland as an independent entity so there is no point adding it until that change happens.

Warseer decline: This is much more closely linked to bell of lost souls rising in significance and that warseer was heavily built on rumours which were obviously massively cracked down upon roughly in line with the decline in posting rates there. I can only go on the post rate too - their traffic levels might be as good as ever, with just fewer people commenting.

Understood, and thanks again for your hard work. I'll just assume that I'm a highly valuable contributing poster and Alf is not and go about my day with my fingers in my ears "Can't hear you! Lalalalalala!"

Yeah, this is a cool site. It is very well moderated. I made the switch from Warseer a while ago and have never looked back.

I am glad to see that Whineseer is going down. It seems to me that the bulk of the conversation there is dominated by bitter social retards who are friends with the mods and get away with whatever they want.

To be sure, there is plenty of whining here, too, but Whineseer just takes it to a whole new level. Keep doing what you're doing here, because it's working.

What about just replacing it with one of those google-search widgets?

The google search widgets dont search private forums (so no DCM or moderator searches available). They also dont go to quite the same level of depth as our integrated search and dont allow filtering by user like our search does.

I've never actually really had a problem with the search function since it was most recently updated...

"It is the great irony of the Legiones Astartes: engineered to kill to achieve a victory of peace that they can then be no part of."

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."
