'lo to all
I was just reading about daemon princes and how whenever they are killed in the human world they are just sent back to the warp. I was wondering if it was possible to properly kill a prince if you did it in the immaterium where they generally hang around
thanks

Only when GW arbitrarily decides to do it for the FLUFF! For the most part they will just return. That being said, GW doesn't make sense on that part always.

You can destroy a Daemon by scattering their warp essence so far in the immaterium that they can't reform short of direct intervention by the gods themselves. M'Kar the reborn ultimately suffered this fate.

As far as I know of, I think 5th Ed BRB is the source, Daemons are like sub-components of the patron deity and are completely at their whim. Once banished they remain scattered untill their God remakes them, which inevitably means more favoured subjects like Daemon Primarchs and Lords get remade as a priority.
On the other hand, it would be possible to destroy a Daemon completely imo. The reason I say this is because the Emperor destroyed Horus' soul. Like, conpletely obliterinnhilicated it. The soul is in 40k terms just a reflection in the warp of one particular being's emotion and thoughts and so a part of the warp like Daemons are. So, my hypothesis is that if the Emperor could destroy a Primarch's soul (bearing in mind that in the Primarchs novel, one of the number more or less outright stated that Primarchs were Daenons of a sort), he could theoretically annihilize a Daemon. Probably the bigger baddies like Skarbrand and Fateweaver would take more out of him than your run of the mill Lesser Daemon.

M'Kar the Reborn got soulbliterated, and Sindri's Daemon form was devoured by the Malefactor.

As Deadshot says above a daemon can be obliterated. Like a fuse blowing it requires ovewhelming power and the bigger the fuse the more power needed and o too with daemons.
An example of this can be seen in one of the Eisenhorn novels (I forget which). Eisenhorn destroys a daemonette by pouring so much power into it that it is utterly destroyed.
Also a short story that sees a daemon army trapped in a battle machine. They destroy the 'world' and its inhabitants but grow weaker and weaker as there are no real souls to consume. Later in the story the daemon prince consumes his own daemonic followers to gain strength and this way they are destroyed.

I seems like it's a mixture of emotion and power. To banish a demon requires "slaying" it's physical form, or reciting the spell to banish it back to the warp. To truly kill a demon, the slayer must be single minded in purpose. They need to be willing more than anything else to kill the demon. You need to have extreme power like that of the Emperor, or you have to want the demon to truly die more than anything else in all of existence.
Basically you have to want the demon to die more than a version of Angron hopped up on Eversor drugs and ascended to daemonhood wants to kill things.

Or just be another more powerful Daemon and consume it's essence.

Although, IIRC Daemons consist of warp energy - and isn't it impossible to destroy energy?
Then again this is 40K, so real world physics need not apply

Well maybe not destroy them. Destroy being the wrong word. Maybe "dissipate the energy and destroy the conciousness holing it in a form.

The fluff has always been pretty explicit when it states that realspace laws don't apply in the warp.
Also True Death is what OP is looking for

well it actuality says in the grey knight book emp's gift that by knowing the true name of a daemon and saying it as you kill the daemon will send so far into the warp it will take the will of the chaos god to bring it back or something like that (haven't read the book for a while )
