How long does a 2000 point game usually takes?
How long does a 3000 point game usually takes?

Thanks in advance

My usual rule of thumb is twenty minutes per five hundred points. Although this number can fluctuate wildly depending on how many units you have. (A footslogging ork army or a tyranid army take considerably longer, f'rex.)

Wrong forum by the way.

It varies... greatly....

Two vet players that are set up and ready to roll? We do 2k games in 2.5ish hours.. give or take 15 minutes..

Have new players...and it could take 5 hours to play...

There are a lot of variables.

- 4500pts: Shinzon Dynasty
3000pts: Hive Fleet Empusa
- 3000pts Rampagers

If my group could get 500 points done in 20 minutes, I would be surprised to no end. Just rolling for objectives and setting up takes longer than that even at 500.

But we are very slow. Some of it intentionally.

I did my math wrong, I apologize.

'Forty minutes per 500 points' should be the correct figure.

Sorry, I was trying to hastily recalculate from 5th ed, when I usually figured 30 min/500 pts, and adjusted the wrong direction. My bad.

I did a 1500pt game in 3 hours (5 turns) last night, this includes set up (like half a bloody hour) and bio breaks as well.

another 500 pts would add half/45 minutes.

To be fair my opponent is brand new to 6th and has not played in years.

Games generally last until I win or until I flip the table over. Whichever comes first.

500 pts takes about 30-45 mins depending on if you take your time to setup and if combats drag out.

1500 pts will take about 1.5-2 hours based on my experience

I usually play 2000 points, and they take about 2-3 hours.

Considering you're asking this question I going to assume you're new to 40k. As a newbie, 2000pts could easily last 4 hours.

I've done 1000pts in under 45 minutes before, without particularly rushing. That said, I've got bored waiting for a table at my FLGS while two guys derped their way through a 500pt game...

....FOR FIVE HOURS

But yeah, 30-45mins per 500pts sounds about right for normal people.

EDIT: To the OP, the less rules/stats that need looking up, the faster the game goes. As new players get more and more experienced, the faster the games *should* go. That said, it can take some effort sometimes, even with experience players, to make sure both parties have their heads in the game or else it easily drifts longer.

I played a tournament last weekend, and it was 1850, 2 and a half hour rounds. I ran foot horde IG with more than 100 infantry models on the table. I somehow was able to finish all three games, on turn 5, 7, and 5 again. I was rushing the whole time, but it's possible to get it done in that time. My previous rule of thumb was an hour per thousand points, but I think it's closer to an hour and a half now. I generally like to goof around and talk with the person I'm playing against, which I think should be factored into any game time.
