Fenriswulf wrote:Making those parts in resin would likely make the cost even more prohibitive than them being in MDF. Getting bubble free casts in large flat pieces would require a very good pressure casting setup, and the knack for getting the resin into the mold and pressed down right before it started going off too much. And then you've got the problems of it warping in the mold or during transit as well...
Better that it be made in MDF and they figure a way to sell it to US customers at a decent price.
I wasn't actually talking about casting the whole part in resin. I was only talking about the raised bits and pieces of the board itself (sidewalks corners, arches, stairways) similar to their building widgets (they could even do those in MDF instead of casting). Then a person could cut their own MDF squares, glue them to their own boards to create their sections. Airbrush in the rest of the road lines and hexes, so it gives someone a reduced cost option allowing them to spend more on buildings. It also still allows those who don't want to do their own work to simply pay the expensive route.
2 straight, 4 corner, 2 T-intersection, road elevator, 2 steps, 8 blanks, retaining wall (currently no escalator) runs $450.67 with a discount of $90.13 + $64.21 shipping for $514.88 that is to build something similar to what was shown. The big issue is the extra risers in height. It makes it harder for someone to buy a couple sections to integrate into their own terrain so I can't use them with Battleboards or Tablescape tiles. I'm trying to understand the extra height and material need. I get the road elevator panel, which would be great if there was access to under the city roads to create a dungeon and sewer otherwise only make that elevated to be used with the steps and then do everything else in a base board so it is closer to the ground to integrate with existing terrain. Don't get me wrong, looks great and I wish I could justify the cost and have it. I'd rather spend the $400 on their other buildings and get some more miniatures. Although I wonder if I could talk the LGS into getting a set.... Probably a great investment for a tournament group or gaming club that could all pitch in together though.

I have many plans to use the extra height for various features. They're just not obvious in this initial release.
It's always seemed a bit of shame to me that every other modular terrain system I've seen basically fails to incorporate any depth. Silly trenches with huge, unplayable walls, rivers flowing majestically on top of grass, craters that block lines of sight, etc etc.
The height also has a second purpose, in that it makes all of the sections stackable. by having all tiles the same height, all tiles can be used at any level.
In the future there will be other pieces to allow transitions between levels and indeed whole other themes. More generic sidewalks, cratered roads and trenches.
As for the price? Well. We've made it as cheap as we can and offered a generous discount for bulk orders. Stuff costs money. That's a thing.

I don't know that the hex pattern was the right way to go for these tiles. It might be the cliche for this type of environment, but it limits your ability to put the table together without adjacent tiles being misaligned.

Have you got an idea of when the buggies will be available? Also, are there still plans for weapon chests?

Sure, I understand that. But looking at the board picture you just posted, with the exception of the escalators it would be fine if you dropped the 2" risers from the bottom level. Swap the escalators with either of the 'tier 3' sets of steps and it works perfectly. If perhaps you made the road tiles available with *and* without the risers it could help save a bit on storage space?

Actually, the original design only had 18mm of total height. Trouble with that was the depth was inadequate for (for example) a trench, and also required a completely different set of product to go up levels in any meaningful manner. 50mm ( Actually 53.2mm) was arrived at by a long series of trial and error as the best height.
Keep in mind, that roads aside, you can use the levels on any flat terrain board you may already have.
Having said all that, there is no reason that will stop us from releasing a flatter, 18mm version in the future. It's just a lot more product, and the cost would be pretty much the same (difference in cutting time between 50mm and 15mm for one panel is about 7 seconds)

The demo table is $282 and leaves you with 1 spare crossroads piece, by my maths
Or I could be looking at the wrong demo table... anyway, 4x4 where every tile has a road on it is $256, and for every pair you replace with the blanks subtract $17 near as I can tell. These are on my list!

Is there a chance that the Paranoia table will be on display at AdeptiCon? I'm not sure if it's a long shot, but I'll be there in-person and I think it's one of the largest conventions where Infinity is featured in the US. It would certainly be awesome to see these

We will not be attending adepticon, sadly. I believe the Adepticon people did contact us about supplying a table of terrain, and apart from only recently managing to actually get this product in production, i'm not sure the boss returned the e-mails.(he's not good at that stuff... he's an engineer. )

Well, I can relate being an engineer, certainly (I'm one!). Is there an alternate method of contact (such as having an Aussie staff member of AdeptiCon make a quick call) that might work, as I think if a board could be supplied in time for them to show off in March, it would be really mutually beneficial to all of you guys! I've shot you a PM about that, so feel free to reply there of course
