Milsims? I avoid them entirely if at all possible since their staff are mostly surly/rude d-bags every time I've spoken to them, with the exception of one guy who was great, can't recall his name though. There are a lot better options out there.

How something can be 'essential' and needed for the game, yet they aren't going to make enough, is sort of confusing me. I guess selling wargames for 25 years still doesn't give me the wisdom that the GW marketing department has amassed. Maybe making money and having people play their games aren't goals anymore?
Makes perfect sense to me; " look stockholders we sold everything again!"

I don't think GW is run by recent college grads. It's most certainly the old guard of businessmen (Kirby, et al) who are in charge of this.
Also, "washed in bull gak"? "liberal educators"? No need for pointless political mud-slinging, and the way that GW is run is certainly not in any kind of "leftie" manner. Quite the opposite, in fact.

Absolutely. Greed and shameless money-grubbing are hardly "liberal" values. Sounds like someone is envious of people with college educations.
As for GW's downright quixotic behavior, it's more par for the course. This actually isnt that contradictory - the "this is essential" and "limited edition" are both slightly oily tricks on GW's part to try to compel people to buy right away rather than mull over the purchase of this (rather expensive) supplement and its accoutrements. While I don't foresee Dreadfleet levels of dreadful sales for this, it will hardly be flying off the shelves. Not at the price of Your First-Born + shipping & handling.

If anything, Apocalypse should be handled the opposite of Dreadfleet. This is a game that encourages the use of multiple superheavies- which if you already have a bunch that's great, but the game should be handled as a gateway into boosting sales for Forgeworld. I mean, most people who haven't won the lottery yet don't just buy a Tau Manta or a Warlord Titan as a spur-of-the-moment deal. They are selling entire space marine companies to promote this. It could very well take someone months to save up enough to get the units that make Apocalypse games special, let alone paint them up to a level of quality that justifies their expense.
Nothing about Apocalypse should be limited edition. It should be a game designed with a decade-long life-span, with little splash promotions every couple years whenever Forgeworld sales start to drag.

+1
And Forgeworld should be getting in on this, too. Now is the perfect time to announce Apocalypse formations and deals for the Horus Heresy (which, I feel, just begs to be played in the Apocalypse format to begin with).

Does that mean the other templates are essentially useless now?

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money. |

Of course, why would GW want you to be able to use your perfectly good old stuff when they could sell you new stuff?
