Neal at the Warstore contacted me last night to tell me he would no longer be able to ship me a Wave Serpent because GW has just given him word that that specific kit is discontinued. He believes a Falcon/WS kit is on the horizon to replace it. He did not say whether or not the Falcon kit had been discontinued as well. Isn't the chasis of the WS larger than the Falcon though? When this happened to the Hammerhead/Skyray I'm assuming there was a price bump.

It still is on the GW website. It is the same as the falcon kit but has an extra sprue, iirc.

The wave serpent kit just has a different rear compartment but the rest of the hull is the same as the Falcon.

Price increase on Falcon/Serpent via reboxing?

As for the logistics, this makes sense. The chassis is one sprue, the Falcon parts are another sprue, and the Serpent parts are another sprue. They could shove all three sprues in there and raise the price by 500%.

The Falcon box has the chassis sprue and the turret sprue. The Serpent box has the chassis sprue and the extra bits (back, turret, etc).

I'm aware it's still on the GW site, I was just echoing what a reasonably reknown retailer told me. It's quite plausible GW will leave the old kits up until it's time to rebox the new one, but in either case, retailers will no longer be provided with the old kit (according to Neal).

1.) The Wave Serpent has an extra sprue containing a part making the chassis longer. In old times you could order it as a single sprue.
2.) I can confirm that from July onward, the Wave Serpent is mail order only. No idea if it will be repacked later.
3.) This is geat news!

This is great news! Now you don't have to wonder about where you can find a new Citadel™ Wave Serpent™ or have to deal with retail stores that are out of stock but can "special order" it for you and waste two trips to the store. Now all you have to do is buy it from www.gamesworkshop.com™ and our Citadel™ FineShipping™ team will have it delivered right to your door!

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Are there holes in the FineShipping box like I've come to expect from my FineCast? I need to make sure my Wave Serpent can breath, it is a serpent after all...

If I understand things correctly, once a tank is OOP you are allowed to substitute a cardboard box with 'Wave Serpent' scribbled on the side no?

Fun fact: GW updated the list of required products. The evaluation was before the Eldar release, so IIRC not a single Eldar kit is mandatory, but 4 Dark Angel boxes. GW says it is strictly done by sales numbers, with the exception of the Limited Hobbit Starter of course

Old timers remember the time, when this essential Eldar transport had no model at all for years.

6th edition is just 2nd ed Redux... Maybe we should expect the Land Raider and Battlewagon to be suddenly discontinued as well...

Unless they redo it as FineCast. Of course then it would be "Great News! Transporting vehicles can be a pain, but our new FineCast Wave Serpent conviently breaks into smaller pieces for transport at random. That keeps it exciting and is also great news for those hobbyist who need more excitement!"

Yes I know they won't but the mere thought of it scared you.

To be fair to GW when you do have to order direct, they're quick, and wellpacked, so much so, it makes them look damned near super efficiently good. Then you remember why you had to order direct in the first place :(

Going direct order is not any sign that a kit is getting removed, so I'm not sure why people keep saying that.

More and more GW items are going direct-order only, for the reasons that only GW themselves know.

So I think we can safely stop with the idea that the Wave Serpent is getting discontinued.

I don't think anyone seriously entertains the idea of the Wave Serpent going out of production, but becoming unavailable as a single kit (and merged with the Falcon kit to become a double kit) is likely.

Or they want to screw LGSs out of potential sales that are forced to only GW. But lets go with your suggestion, not my cynical approach.

Maybe it will just be direct until they make new packaging.

Regardless, it is a bad move by GW. I still do not understand why FLGS sell their products. If customers really want to play their games, I would try to sell them other companies models to use as proxies.
