I like the over-the-shoulder/3rd person view. This will allow me to see my character and see how awesome he looks. With cool animations (like the execution animations) I wouldn't want to be in 1st person view.
The only reason I would like to switch to 1st person view is when zooming in with a rifle, tank turret, etc.

Firefall is pretty good regarding the switching between 1st person and 3rd person.

I don't exactly know the limitations of the engine, but I agree. At least for all the long range weapons there should be a first person camera. Even if they don't implement it to, let's say, Bolt Pistols or anything that can be used as a target softener before you charge in melee.

I say put it like the old Star Wars Battlefront games; a simple option for saying what you want.
The Heroes (hack-and-slashy heroes) were TPS as standard, wheras everything else was FPS

Should also have first person view as an option for all non-pistols.

Interview with David Ghozland : the role of creative director Warhammer 40k : Eternal Crusade
Developed by Behaviour Interactive Studio , the Warhammer 40,000 project - Eternal Crusade is especially in the hands of David Gohzland , creative director of the MMO . With the same team today at work on Eternal Crusade , he had already done the dungeons of The Secret World, Funcom MMORPG contemporary and responds to our questions today about his career , his job and obviously on Warhammer 40000 Eternal Crusade .
How did you get started in the video game ?
In 1998 Ubisoft Montreuil N64 Tonic Trouble . It was supposed to be a summer to the end of my studies job. I applied for a temporary position tester and I found myself in an interview with Game Designer . The error was timely as it was originally intended for my business .
The interview was a disaster but it opened my eyes to a world of both creative and technical . I still remember the question trap Hascoet Serge : " What is the difference between Camera Mario 64 and the Tomb Raider ? "
Why have oriented design?
With a long experience of master paper role playing and wargames, creating my own scenarios and campaigns , strong solid experience gamer , it was a natural evolution. We must also say that my scientific and technical training has been key in my career. A designer is primarily a technician , creative course, but a technician anyway. For the record, in 1984 I dreamed of reading a book on the future of computers. There was a section on how one day we would be able to create video games simulating eg Napoleonic battles . In 1995, I played Command and Conquer . It was an eye-opener for me : it was in the future! And people who had certainly read the same book that I had written the code and made ??the design of this game!
What a difference the craft designer, lead designer and creative director ? Why this change?
Broad question. The lead designer is a manager and guarantor of the implementation of the design , the Creative Director is responsible for the vision and direction.
The lead must ensure that everything is according to plan and design supports gaming experience defined by the DC. Now there is talk of two types of design: Level design that realization party and game design where all the rules and parameters. I had the chance to do both , but the qualities and skills required for each job are very different. Game design is more technical and mathematical while the level design is creative and artistic .
I have always enjoyed working in a team and contribute to strengthen . For me, a game is the product of a concerted effort by some people to dozens of people , even hundreds of talented and passionate developers. A good lead is a good manager but a good creative person is able to inspire and motivate his team. With this in mind and a burning desire to make good games , I made a big step forward in this direction.
What is a typical day of a Creative Director
It depends on when the project is situated. At this time for Eternal Crusade , my role is mainly to finalize and confirm the gaming experience I work in concert with designers to formalize support gameplay experience, with artists for the visual that works with this same experience and coders to get the tools that will help to implement it. We talk about rules and game mechanics , plans levels and flow concepts of art and 3D models , music and sounds , stories and special effects . Beginning of the project , the DC is everywhere, including marketing and related reporters recess . It is extremely intense and energizing but exhausting.
Once the production is on track , my role should evolve towards a role of great supervisor to make sure that things are always in the right direction . The challenge is really to establish the vision of the game while leaving the creative forces of the team to express themselves and enrich the said vision. Many DC tend to be tyrannical and try to control every detail. In fact, our role is that of guide and reference point guard once the established direction .
In the case of WAR 40k, what are the main questions that arise as a Creative Director ?
Warhammer 40,000 is a very strong license with over 26 years of history and content. As a fan , my role and protect the universe and make sure it is treated with all the respect it deserves. As Creative Director , my role is to provide the best gaming experience possible in this universe. The type of questions I ask myself always revolve around this theme : make a game where players are immersed in the world of Warhammer 40,000 .
Here are the types of questions I get asked regularly to improve the vision of the first open world of Warhammer 40,000: the choice of the number of factions ? What does it mean to be a Space Marine or Eldar ? How will I recognize and find my favorite world in the game? How to bring out the dark side and sinister galactic war ? How to create a social organization that works for each race? Etc. .
Do the answers change over development?
Yes . A game development is an organic system , always in motion. It is rare that the directions remain static , we must regularly adapt to the constraints and contingencies . In general, it differs little after a good pre-production, but sometimes you must completely overhaul an entire branch of the game
Have you an example of unexpected difficulties encountered during development ?
Too many examples unfortunately. A poor estimate of the cost of a feature, the main programmer who decides to find the meaning of life in the mountains of Tibet in the middle of production, or simply a bad design or a bad direction. The examples are numerous and the developer experience reduces risk, it often happens that a design works on paper, but not at all once implemented . The iterative and empirical method is best when trying to innovate but it has inherent risks .
Is it can provide challenges as a Creative Director ?
Yes a lot . It is very easy to imagine incredible and great games , often impractical or unrealistic . The Creative Director must be creative but also control creativity. It is easier for a team to create a well-defined framework and my role , my challenge is to define the framework.
To return to War 40k, how is the current development ? The schedule is respected?
It is almost on time and within budget , thank you to the great team experience . Miguel 's vision for transparency and regular contact with the fans slows us down a little but it is also because it is new to us . We begin to learn to manage this aspect .
Ghozland thank you to David for taking the time to answer our questions.

There is no such thing as a better targeter than first person.
I think he means the view one gets when 'zooming in' or 'aiming down sights' that appears in many FPS and TPS games.
I loved the way Space Marine worked with it's views. I would be very happy with that.

That would be it. I'd rather it not go FPS because then they'll have to make sure the combat would work flawlessly within both, or else it'll look very clunky.

Well I see an Eldar shooting at the Orks!!! LOL haa you mean the ARG..... I can't tell since the purpose of an ARG is to be hard. Battles-Brothers are getting close and there is a Russian Guild with 10 people working together with a member at pack trying to find the Warp bubble moving around (high power wifi Eternal Crusade) to log in and break another part of the puzzle.

Some digging in the source code and playing around with certain links of theirs. Eventualy found this when I found that the picture with all 4 races and the one with the 4 space marines were both noted as content_1 and content_2, adding a 3 got this out.

So, I reckon whatever there is to find is at PAX. Oh well, tough luck. They're saying something about a demon running around with the powers of the Warp. And that we have to log in there. Prolly some cosplay with a WI-FI signal. Also, something about a girl with a black dog that answered all the questions correctly. Again, maybe someone cosplaying that has the answer? Dunno. Either way, someone at battle-brothers.com posted this, it might help you in some way:
Legends tell of an entity known as "The Guardian of the Maze" that inhabits the Crystalline Labyrinth. Though his name implies that he serves as the protector of Tzeentch's realm, he is said to function more as a gatekeeper and observer. Rumours tell of a path through Tzeentch's realm that, in theory, anyone, mortal or daemon, may follow to discover infinite knowledge. To follow this path, the inquisitive pilgrim must travel through nine gates. These portals, three times the height of a man, appear as golden arches wreathed in the blue and pink Warpfire of Tzeentch. Such is the power of the Guardian of the Maze, or perhaps it is the bizarre temporal nature of Tzeentch's twisting realm itself, that the Guardian manifests as a giant disembodied mouth hovering above all nine gates simultaneously. At each gate, the mouth ponderously speaks, asking those seekers of knowledge one of the nine hundred and ninety-nine Riddles of Tzaratxoth. Those who answer the riddles correctly may pass through the gates and continue along the path to ultimate enlightenment. Those who fail to answer correctly are doomed to wander the labyrinth for all eternity wracked with insanity and regret over the infinite knowledge that might have been theirs. Legend tells of one being -- the only one in all history, who answered all nine of the questions correctly. Strangely, many versions of the story posit that this individual appeared in the guise of a young girl who was accompanied by a small black dog. Factions within the Ordo Malleus wage vicious scholarly battles over the hidden significance of this tale, or if the tale actually happened, or was yet another metaphorical wisp of smoke from the Master of Lies.
