So my time draws short, Mrs Kyoto's return looms, and I'm marking these final carefree days with a Xena Warrior Princess marathon.
What an odd odd show.
Starting the with the hideous mixed metaphor in the opening credits its tone is all over the place.
I mean one week we have a farce where Lucy Lawless plays a virgin, a priestess and Xena (who are all identical) the next... Xena murdering Gabrielle's kid and then savagely beating Gabrielle and dragging her behind a horse.
Or one week a homage of the Producers, followed by a graphic crucifiction.
It's just.... odd.
And there oughta be law against hawt chicks either cutting their hair or getting tattos. And especially both.

I never watched Xena, but I am a big fan of Mrs. Lawless. She was the best thing about Spartacus after Andy Whitfield died, and she's very serviceable on Parks & Rec.

Not here, no. But tbh, I wasn't a fan of Hercules, either.
There just wasn't enough pew-pew in them for me.
Not even the chin with a personality could make me like the show (Bruce Campbell).
Although I do have friends who loved that show (but also liked supernatural - to this day, I still don't know WHY we're friends - it's certainly not because we liked the same tv shows )

That show was seriously trippy as I recall. The other "live action adventure shows" like The Adventures of Hercules and Beast Master were all weird like that.

Surprisingly good some of them so I might rewatch this as well.

No, I did most definitely NOT imply that I disliked supernatural.
I'm slipping.
To end the rumours, I hereby state that I very intensely disliked that show. I'm not fond of "supernatural" ghost story shows at the best of times.
And don't get me started on sherlock. Benedict Cumberbatch gaks me to tears.

Ah, I used to watch that show all the time when it was first on TV, along with Hercules (Kevin Sorbo is tha man!). I've been meaning to go back and watch through both of those, but been sidetracked by other shows and video games.
Are they both still on Netflix?

Those vests last for about 5 minutes before everyone is topless writhing around in the time chest to chest with other men.
That show was hilarious...

It's just such a weird show to watch in a binge.
It's like Adam West Batman meets Lynda Carter Wonder Woman meets Buffy's moral dilemma and character deaths.
You can whiplash going from Joxer the Mighty to Gabrielle being crucified. Automatically Appended Next Post: AduroT wrote:Random note. The girl who played Xena's sidekick in her series played Hercules's wife in the short movies that came before the launch of his series.
Even more random, Xena was going to be a one-off character and not played by Lucy Lawless.
Instead she got her own show and ran for 6 years.
Not too shabby.
Does that make her the most successful guest star in history?

Actually the "Amazon yell" is a ululation that is used to express strong emotions. You mostly find it used in the Middle East now during weddings, funerals, or other times of celebration. The sound is more a "La" or "Li" sound repeated rapidly and ended with the "li" while fading out the vowel. It is not proper to do this without shielding you mouth; this keeps spit from flying and to keeps people from seeing your tongue waggling.
I watched it here and there but never got in to it.
