Only had enough parts to make the body for one, and just molded it to make 5 more. Doing all the weapons individually to give them distinct differences, also to draw the eye away from bad mold lines that you will see. Currently remolding the head, not happy with the results, but should be better this time. It looks nice from a few inches away, and with some paint and cleaning up I really feel they top the teeny tiny meganobs gw currently produces. Anyway here is a few examples of what I have done so far.

Don't jump to judge just yet though, all my projects start out ugly as sin. Heres an example of another scratch build of mine that looks better than the initial pictures looked.

Yup currently molding a flamer to give them all combi flamers, some more toes and shoulderpads, and a drill from the killa kan to finish up my models along with new heads. Ill paint em when I feel they are good enough to be called done, and post back here. Gonna be some days though.

Looking good, any ideas where I can get hold of some instamould in the uk? I've spent about 20 hours custom building combi weapons for my chaos termies. It'd be so much easier if I could just cast more from the ones I've already built.

Some small updates, the new head molds came out good. it really is the most important part to keep nice looking, pulls the model together. Copied the drill from the killa kan arm for my last weapon, so I have 6 counts as klaws, one wrecking ball, one claw, one power fist, one chainsaw hand, one scissor type and a drill, and all the guns are different. Should look nice on the table after I finish them and get to painting. 4th pic is for size comparison, still has the old ugly head

So, I can agree: ugly as sin . But, judging from your ghazgul model, this should be pretty darn good when you are done!

Well here they are done, minus a base, need to work on painting them next. Should cover da ugly, and look orkey.

Ebay for 'oyumaru' its the same, except comes in more than one colour (clear is one of them). colour is irrelevant. The actual properties of the product remain the same for your needs. Plus its a tad cheaper

Instamold/oyumaru is a godsend its not easy to achieve brilliant results with... but its simply brilliant! re-usable molding material with a very good level of detail retention. The defects come from it being tricky to use perfectly....but as its re-usable just try again hehe.

Greenstuff will set you back much more than the molds will in the long run. But that can be combatted by using milliput, or a mixture of milliput and green stuff.
Milliput sets a bit faster, and a lot harder and more brittle, is sandable within hours. While greenstuff sets slowly, retains plasticity for a fair while as it cures, and isnt very sandable for the first few days.
A mixture of the two can achieve a medium setting speed, good sandability and a high hardness.

Well got one almost done, need to work on the details, also my red is old and watery, need to pick up a new one to get the bright red im looking for, but this is the basic concept. From a few inches away looks pretty good.

I don't know why, but every project I start looks like total garbage until the last few steps. For more examples look at my gallery. My trukk and ghaz came out pretty decent. I have a feeling when all 6 of these are done and standing next to each other, they are gonna look sweet. I already like them more than the GW versions, so that's good enough for me.

HOWEVER if GW does update theirs and they look nice, ill be all over them since these were still 30ish bucks in green stuff and about 7 hours to create and assemble, NOT counting drying time for the items in the molds. All together so far a weeks worth of free time.

30bucks of greenstuff? wtf? you bought it from GW i guess?

look for kneadatite, or plumbers blue/yellow. theyre both the same thing, and dont come with GW tax.

nope, storebought tubes. GW wanted 15 bucks for those tiny strips! I went thru 3 tubes of each at 10 bucks.

The most preliminary painting done so far, layers highlighting and touchups to come later. But this gives you a basic idea of what these guys look like as a squad on the table. I really like the way they turned out, should be nice with some added effort into painting, but already leaps and bounds what they were from ugly green lumps.

Aside from some touching up and basing, they are basically done. I am pretty pleased with them, their armor looks cobbled together enough to be called orkey. Does anyone think I should go over the whole model with gryphonne sepia, just to take some of the shine off?
