Actually, for a video game, that's rather low unless you're making a mobile game, THEN it would be high. If they started out with no money what so ever, you'd be looking at 1-3 million on average, depending on a few factors.

The fact we've seen fully rendered character models in an a completed environment with animations/effects in engine makes me think they already have partial funding for it, otherwise this wouldn't be as polished as it is. Sure, some of it's still smoke and mirrors but it's still quite solid. This kickstarter will fill the money gap and allow for a bunch of extras. Pretty good strategy.

I think they'd been working on it for a couple of years with their own funding, they just needed the kickstarter to bring it home. Since the team was already assembled and working together, I feel more confident on this one than your average vaporware kickstarter.

You're 100% correct. I sorta forgot it was for a video game ;-)

As to the coins: I couldn't care less about mine, and would happily trade them away for the journeyman or magus patch!

That's even more upsetting then. Privateer Press announced this game years ago. I thought they'd be more willing to fund it.

Because its only one charge? This is more the equivalent of a mutually beneficial pre-sale. They get guaranteed sales and up front capital, the more they raise, the more content that would be DLC gets packed into the release, benefitting you.

I doubt all of the footage of gameplay and models were done for free, and PP is not a video game publisher.

I like the various spins on the campaign. What about, "We want to fund this game, so how about you up your pledges for such *ahem* valuable rewards as paying to playtest our game, paying for re-skinned or de-skinned models, or getting a forum badge that says you bought our game?"

I wouldn't apply blind confidence... A quick bit of research tells you that White Moon Dream was founded in 2006, and has NO body of work.

It looks good, and i'm absolutely gonna give them the benefit of the doubt... but after the debacle that was War-Room, I don't trust Privateer to partner particularly wisely at all times. :-p

Yes, though I think they're porting the graphics from the

Yes, that was an action game.

I fail to see how this is special, Circle's been able to do it since the Lessers were first released.

Seeing how quickly they got they got $450,000 they could easily pull in 3 mil. Wonder if they'll add hordes as a stretch goal. I might even back it and I don't like WM at all.

Update 2: Looks like they're putting Hordes creatures in the single player campaign if they fund today (bolded below).

Overwhelmed doesn’t begin to describe the feeling I’m experiencing as we’re closing in on our funding goal. The excitement at Privateer Press and WhiteMoon Dreams is palpable — not because of the little ticker going up in the corner of all our screens, but because of what that means: we’re going to make this game. It’s going to happen. I’ve never seen so many people so eager to work! Crossing our funding goal so early means we’ve got lots of time to work on stretch goals, and I know that’s on everyone’s minds. We all want to see as much of WARMACHINE in WARMACHINE: Tactics as we can, and the further we take this campaign, the more content and features we'll get into the game and the faster it will happen.

So I’m going to spoil a little of what we’ve got planned in our stretch goals: You already know that the number one goal is Cryx and Protectorate in multiplayer on launch day.

We’ve also got a slew of new characters from all the playable factions that will be revealed at intervals throughout the stretch goal ladder. I’m just going to say one word, and it only pertains to some of them, but…APOTHEOSIS.

We want to include a coloring system in the game so you can customize the look of your squad. And we think it’d be awesome if you could edit the maps in multiplayer.

Retribution as a playable faction is in our goals. Mercenaries are a playable faction in our goals. And Convergence…are you kidding me? It’s going to be a lofty goal with the complexity of that faction, but we’re salivating for them and if the momentum continues, we might just see that crazy machine cult sooner than later.

We want to fill this game out with fantastic cinematics, an orchestral score worthy of the setting’s epic scale, and we’ve got a bunch of multiplayer enhancements we want to include as well as a spectator mode and replay cam that we think would be amazing.

We’re in love with the idea of persistent damage appearing on the units through the course of a battle. We’ve got plans for single-player mission packs for more characters and factions.

And, I just got off the phone with Jay over at WhiteMoon Dreams — if we fund today (and it’s looking pretty good) we’re going to include a couple of HORDES creatures in the No Man’s Land single player campaign, which will mark our first step towards the future development of a HORDES: Tactics experience.

Again, thank you for your amazing support. To be this close to our goal so quickly is absolutely exhilarating. To see over 4,300 backers working together to push this project into the realm of reality is incredible! We are humbled, and overjoyed, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

With great appreciation to you all,

Matt Wilson

I'm not really a WM fan game wise. I keep thinking about getting in and then stop short due to lack of interest (mostly due to full ranges). That being said the renders of the LE models provided so far look fun to paint (though I'm not sure about $20 each fun) and the game could be something that gets me into WM finally so I'll likely back for at least the game and maybe a few of the LE's.

Clearly the market is fine with whichever way they decided to spin it. Stretch goals ahoy!

For whatever reason they decided to go KS is fine with me. $20 advanced order of the game is fine with me. If my moeny helps them get it done all the better. That's if I decide to back it.

I think its an interesting experiment. A minatures game company that's making their game into a video game. Some might look at it as direct competition with their tabletop game. Others might see it as another way to get people interested in their tabletop game or at least make some money off people who don't play tabletop games but play strategy video games. GW would never do anything like this though I hope it works out for WM.

If I do get the game it still wouldn't get me into playing their tabletop version. But at least they'll make some money off me, right?

The video game to the tabletop is just as different as Dawn of War is to Warhammer 40k.

Not to mention Battle March for WHFB. GW has made a few games. Shadow of the horned rat was out for PS1 as well.

That being said, still glad PP is doing this. Doesn't hurt to have more games.
