Yay, rust bombs for all!
We're about to be getting into the slow grind portion of the kickstarter, but hopefully we can push it up to the Protectorate campaign within a week. Hopefully they'll come out with a few more addons - some Art Prints or a folding map of Immoren would probably attract a few more dollars

I don't know how I feel about all these mercs. On one hand, I like mercs just as much as the next guy. On the other hand, if they haven't included the character jacks from Apotheosis, what else have they left out of the in game factions? What other units could these stretch goals be filling the place of as opposed to, say, Gorman. Do I have to miss out on Long Gunners for him? ATGM? The Minuteman? Avenger?
I just hope the factions are complete already, and these mercs are just icing, but the fact that there are units which are iconic of each faction as a stretch goal in the distance makes me worried about just how much choice we'll have in the game from our actual factions.

I'd expect that the factions will include at the bare minimum the entirety of Prime at launch. IIRC, we've already seen a shot of a Centurion, so it's not a stretch to guess that the various Escalation models (especially the Warjacks of Renown) will probably make it into the game. Honestly, that gives a pretty good base of units for every faction, especially since they've basically stated your infantry will basically all function like solos, being highly elite for their type and bought individually during the army building stage.

Well, we know they *want* to make everything, but that's obviously overly ambitious of course, and I think they'll just try to get as much as possible in the time/budget given. I think we can guarantee the Prime stuff in each faction, with possibly a few iconic options from the Faction book stuff. If you think about it, that's still quite a few options and most games of this sort don't have that many more options than that. The Mercs at least work for several different factions, so in that regard they're an efficient way to get extra options to each faction. Plus, they have a fair bit of personality, and I could definitely see them being used in some of the campaign missions.

It is a bit odd. Also puzzles me as to why you only get 4 of them when all the faction specific dice sell as 6 packs.

Matt Wilson and a few of the head guys from Whitemoon Dreams did a Q&A over twitch the other day. They said they would have roughly 3 warcasters, 4 warjacks, and 5 warriors per faction. It might not be the Prime models exactly, but it is about the same amount of options as found in Prime. One of those warcasters (per faction) is going to be that faction's new novice warcaster, so we will NOT see all the Prime casters right away.

Anybody have a good idea on how to paint / mod the war caster that can be "normal" / zombie-Cryx as both with a single model?
The best I have is a 2-face kind of thing.
Anybody else have another idea without hitting eBay for a copy of this sculpt later?

Yeah one of the add ons is an additional game, instead of having to pledge yourself, but I don't know if it is discounted or not. It may be more so you can get a big pledge or something for yourself and get an extra copy while you are there for a friend. edit: yep, $20 for an additional copy, so no discount I think. You know, unless you are Australian and then that is a full $80 less than you would expect to pay on release day here. So it depends if your mate wanted to be able to buy one get one free, or discounted, or just get 2 with 1 pledge. Hope that helped

Edit: Also, we're now just $2000 from getting the next stretch goal - an in game color customisation system. That's nice enough for the game, but I think it might really be sweet to let us see how alternate color schemes might look on our actual minis. I assume it won't be a full painting system, of course, just something like "choose main colour, trim color 1, trim color 2 and metal/joint color", but it could still be nice to see how certain colors work before you start painting for real.

Some info on how the color picker will be set up!
Wondering, how extensive will the army painter be, and how much customisation will there be?
Will it be like DoW, where you could basically choose 4 colours and one of a number of pre-set banners? Or will it be more extensive - perhaps each part of the model being selectable for colouring, thus allowing complete customisation? Problem being that it could take forever to do - but thats what presets are for, no?
@Bill Schneider - yeah, our original plan was more along the lines of DoW, but because you guys are so incredible, our plan now is expose the modification of shader parameters, coloring regions of characters at a time and applying color washes for that subtle (or not subtle) hint of color that makes minis so gorgeous!
@Jay Koottarappallil - So with the change in approach (aasuming the goal is met) what are the implications of that for those who opted for a reward level that gives them 'alternate company skins'?
Under the original plan, those would have been truly a different thing again, but since coloring options are about to expand from a choice of 2-3 set schemes to anything under the sun (hyperbolically), is there now some plan in the works to replace that reward with something else?
@TKC - while you'll have a lot of control over coloring of the character, its still a lot different from the detail we put on characters when we do all the custom maps for variants using our dev tools.
My menoth army has 3 main colours - Black, Red and White - each 'faction' of the army has a different main colour of the 3. My exemplars are Black, with red and white, Flameguard Red with black and white, and the rest White with black and red.
Is this level of individuality for the models being looked at for the painter, or will, like DoW, you be only able to affect the army scheme as a whole (even if in more detail than DoW)?
@Chris Doherty - with WARMACHINE Tactics, you'll be constructing squads that may not always have matching units (mercs!), so it makes more sense to do this per character instead of per squad.

Yep, and an update from Matt Wilson:
Custom Color System — UNLOCKED!
Update #11 · Jul 15, 2013 · 17 comments
Our amazing community of backers has grown to over 8,100 strong and your support has pushed WARMACHINE: Tactics past our $760,000 stretch goal threshold. This momentous event unlocks a fantastic feature that we have hoped since the beginning to include in the game — a custom coloring system that will let you tailor the look of your squad to your own color tastes.
We are deeply grateful for your continued support and for all the sharing and promoting of WARMACHINE: Tactics that you have done as a community. The speed at which our community is growing shows how quickly word is spreading. Many, many thanks for backing WARMACHINE: Tactics and helping to maximize this game's potential!
Hitting the next stretch goal will open up the four character warjacks of Apotheosis! If you're new to WARMACHINE, you should know that these incredible jacks are each entirely unique characters in the setting and have ridiculously awesome powers and abilities unmatched by any standard warjack. For Cygnar comest the THUNDERHEAD. Infused with the power of a lightning storm, this 'jack is capable of emitting a devastating electrical pulse, shocking all enemies nearby. For Khador comes the BEHEMOTH, with dual bombards and nearly impenetrable armor. The Protectorate acquires the AVATAR, a divinely controlled warjack that requires no controller to execute The Creator's will. And Cryx will unleash the terrifying DEATHJACK, an infernal machine that grows more powerful with each soul it consumes!
These new character warjacks aren't just going to be amazing in multi-player, though. These are characters we'll integrate into the single player experience. Whether playing AI skirmish mode, the longer campaigns or the mission packs, every new character we unlock becomes an asset that builds out the single-player experience as well.
And to make this stretch goal even sweeter, we've attached a Bonus Mystery Add-On that will be revealed when we unlock the goal!
As long as we're talking characters, though, I want to direct your attention to the bottom of the stretch goal ladder where a new goal has been revealed! These are the four great warcasters of Apotheosis. These aren't common warcasters, every one of them is huge in scale, from Cryx's towering winged giant, TERMINUS, to KARCHEV, a Khadoran warcaster who had his war-torn body attached to a massive custom built warjack chassis so he could continue to fight for the Motherland. Then there's DARIUS, whose armor is practically a walking tank and can deploy a pack of small 'half-jacks' that can repair his own jacks or burrow into the ground to become deadly mines. Perhaps most impressive is the HARBINGER of MENOTH, a young prophet whose divinity holds her aloft in the air, requiring a trio of acolytes to tether her to the ground so that she can wield her god-touched blade, Providence, against the enemies of her nation. Each of these warcaster is massive in scale and complex in design, with powers and abilities to match. If we can get all the way to this stretch goal, some of these warcasters will feature in the Fire & Ice single player mission pack, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
As well, unlocking the Warcasters of Apotheosis stretch goal will reveal a fantastic enhancement to our single-player campaign. It's a distant goal right now, but at the pace the WARMACHINE: Tactics community is growing, we feel it's well within reach over the next 25 days. You are unstoppable!
Watch for another exciting post soon. I'm getting tired of keeping secrets, so we're going to show a bit more of what's on the horizon!
Forever grateful,
Matt Wilson
New stretch goal, as mentioned, is the Apotheosis casters: Khachev, Harbinger, Terminus and Darius.

It's chugging along quite nicely. But yeah, making those dice available as an add-on would likely see another burst. I'd personally pick up 1-2 dozen if they went up.
