Apparently its just an anthology of stories about the new Journeymans...
Crossing this stretch goal also unlocks the Skull Island eXpeditions Rites of Passage anthology digital Add On, authored by the staff writers of Privateer Press. Each story focuses on one of the novice warcasters featured in the WARMACHINE: Tactics Kickstarter, exploring their origins and the events that put them on the path to becoming a hero for their respective nation.
Oh well...

That's tempting me to grab a starter to paint up for fun.Except I still have my Legion stuff from the 2-player box that I need to paint up. I'll probably run it by my wife and see if it gets the smiley face or frowny face. (It's easier to just figure out what I should be being that way, than to actually think about it.)

PP's got decent or even above average rulebook fiction, which isn't saying a lot, but I'm not paying for that, especially when I don't have a ton of time for reading and a lot of non-pulp to read.
Also, wow... $350 for a digital print. Yes, it's nice material, but that's some pretty serious markup on a print of some posed game art that was already made.

Agreed. We're it by one of the actual authors like CL Werner I might have been more inclined to be excited, but not from the house writers.

Awesome looking out man! Just grabbed a Menoth starter box (now I can finally put in my Press Ganger App (couldnt justify a second WM faction when all I really want to play is Khador and Mercs....
Gearhead wrote: Yeah, I couldn't muster the enthusiasm to even want to get excited about this super-secret bonus add-on.
Yeah, I don't think I would have hyped a .pdf as a big mystery add-on. Those are usually disappointing stretch goals when they're thrown in for free. It's too bad, because we're getting to the point where the campaign is dragging, so a cool add-on would have been a nice boost for a day or two - and helped get us through these huuuge stretches between new goals. (Personally - I would have interspersed the little $10 Merc goals amidst these big $100+ ones - just to give people something to look forward to).
Still I expect it to finish at the least in the $2 Million range.
I think the best thing PP can do now is to get the renders for the rest of the journeyman up - I bet a lot of pledgers are holding off until they see the one for their favorite faction(s). I know I am.
I bet the alternate Warcaster parts coming up will be a big boost too. (And was a terrific idea on PP's part)
Oh - and the discount Battlebox thing seems odd to me. As a customer, it's great I snapped up two of them. But from PP's perspective it seems like a mistake. Every discount battlebox they sell is $30 less a backer has to spend on the Kickstarter ... It seems contrary to their goal.

I'd say it's because a Warmachine or Hordes TT gamer is worth more to them than a video gamer.

$30 battle boxes are a pretty sweet deal - PP is trying to hook a few newbies I see
And about the Junior Warcaster story anthology:
"The Rites of Passage anthology will available as a general release on Amazon as well as the Skull Island eXpeditions site, eventually, but later than it is made available to our backers and at slightly higher price.
And because I think I saw these questions somewhere else: We're estimating early next year to release the anthology and it will be approximately the novel length — so, longer than the novellas if you're familiar with them from Slkull Island eXpeditions. The $5 Add On price is a special price for WARMACHINE: Tactics backers."
So Novel length, but presumably broken up into 6 short stories. I could definitely go for that.
And once again, just because it got lost on the last page, if you have a Steam account don't forget to vote for Warmachine: Tactics on Steams Greenlight project - they need votes on there in order to secure a spot on Steam so they can use it for their release platform (something all first new developers have to go through on Steam apparently). The WARMACHINE: Tactics community of backers has grown to over 10,000 strong, and climbing! With three whole weeks to go, our next stretch goal that will unlock the Fire & Ice single player mission pack is well within our grasp, and we hope to reach even further.
Behind the scenes, we continue to work on new Add On rewards that we hope will help inspire and continue the momentum of this Kickstarter. Here's a new physical reward for yet another upcoming WARMACHINE experience...
Today we are pleased to unveil our latest addon: 8 Kickstarter-exclusive High Command warcaster cards including the featured novice warcaster characters and both versions of Sturgis as seen in WARMACHINE: Tactics! These exclusive cards won't be offered again, anywhere else.
High Command is the upcoming deck-building card game for 2–4 players set in the steam-powered fantasy world of the Iron Kingdoms. This summer is a particularly exciting time for us at Privateer Press because just as with WARMACHINE: Tactics, High Command is an opportunity for us to present the WARMACHINE and Iron Kingdoms experiences in a whole new way.
WARMACHINE High Command will be available next month and followed with the totally compatible HORDES High Command this October. More information about both can be found at the link below.

Wait, is there a separate coin add-on? Or just one that comes with a miniatures purchase? I'm a sucker for coins, personally
(DAKKA challenge coin, anyone!?)
There's an option to get a second Sturgis coin so that you've got two coins along with your two models. Requires at least one LE model addon, however (probably Sturgis, if you're doing that).
The new High Command cards look awesome. Kind of stoked to see a Warcaster that you can play for free. Can't read her second ability, but I doubt it's terribly powerful given that.

Just as an Addendum, PPS_Simon clarified that the cards would have kickstarter exclusive Art/design, BUT that the normal versions of the cards would be available at some point a while after the kickstarter ones are released.

I dunno, they could be free as a nice bonus to backers. Plenty of projects add on free stuff.
But rules dev, illustration, and card layout all cost money- PP can't work for free! Wait, only one of those actually involves something new...So maybe they just know that people will spend an exorbitant amount of cash on anything that says "exclusive"
They're raising money for the video game. If they started handing out freebies that they have to ship, then that is money that isn't going to the video game.
Cyporiean wrote: They're raising money for the video game. If they started handing out freebies that they have to ship, then that is money that isn't going to the video game.
Exactly. Let's be fair here, this is a campaign to develop a video game, which has a lot of new content added to the game since the start. Compare what a $20 pledge gets a backers today versus the start of the campaign.
The cards are a fine way to raise revenue: they offer something that has limited appeal (as pointed out, only the card art is unique to the campaign), but is a very high profit item for them to add.
I'd much rather revenues be used to pay developers to work up the Scyrah and Cyriss faction expansions.
Buzzsaw wrote: (as pointed out, only the card art is unique to the campaign)
Umm, I was actually referring to the rules. The art was already produced for the game, and editing them to fit would only take about 10 minutes if they know what they're doing.
If the rules aren't unique, then there's nothing there.

That... was kinda my point, thanks?
The cards (like the faction specific warcaster models) are valuable only for their exclusivity. Given that to get anything physical from this campaign you must pledge for the game, making completely unique (that is, game mechanics too) cards for a separate system seems like a bad idea indeed. To say nothing of incurring the expenses you yourself point out.
