I'm looking at the new Apocalypse book... Gargantuan creatures are no longer immune to psychic powers without a strength value as far as I can tell. So... Can Jaws of the World Wolf, a Shokk Attack Gun, or that one Eldar close combat weapon one-shot them if it hits? There's a special rule that Instant Death only causes wounds (D3+1, I believe,) but Removed from Play just... removes them from play. If so, I think I have a new way of removing those I3 and 2 and 1 beasties...

As with any Apoc game you are going to have to discuss it with your opponents.

Most will play it like it used to be played, or you get into the silliness of using puppetmaster on your opponents Titan and wiping half his army in one shooting phase...

Being immune to psychic powers wouldn't help against the shock attack gun. It is a weapon, and will have a str value for that shot.

There was an adendam in the ork FAQ for the last book. It only inflicted D6 wounds.

If you look at page 69 of the new apoc book under 'Unstoppable' it states that any gargantuan creature 'removed from play' suffers D3 wounds instead.

The old Apoc had a stipulation that if a super heavy or gargantuan was hit with a RFP attack it would instead lose D3 structure points/wounds.

If that no longer is present, they can be RFP'd like anything else.

Thanks. I missed that line (Thought it just said Instant Death for whatever reason.)
Well good... I was imagining cheesiness when a 100-point Rune Priest one-shotted a Heirophant....

D3 wounds is still not too shabby. and 4 rune priests could still wipe it off the table in one turn, assuming it doesn't DtW.

It still only takes damage on a 5+. It's viable, but certainly no auto-doom.

5+?

You can not use DTW against a Force Weapon because the force psychic power is not targeting an enemy model.

I think he was thinking of 4 Rune Priests casting JotWW (in which case the GC would get DTW if it was the target).

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That's what I thought Waaaaaghpower was referring to.

Can a Rune Priest even wound a Heirophant in close combat? Isn't it T8?

If the Rune Priest has a Force Axe and Iron Arm he can. (Potentially Str8 AP2).

Sorry, I must have missed the JOTWW reference. Carry on!

Initiative 3, gets +1 for being a monstrous creature. (Well technically it doesn't because it's gargantuan, but if you argue that then you deserve a dreadsock...) So only a 5 or 6 fails.
To Grey Templar: It's T9, but if the Rune Priest casts Iron Arm or something he potentially could. Still, he can't penetrate that 2+ armor so he's unlikely to do much.

Dang, the Heirophant just gets more and more broken every time I look at it.

He can't take a Force Axe. He's got a unique force weapon.
And the Heirophant isn't broken, you just have to plan for him. Three destroyer hits will usually kill him. A lot of Warlords can beat him down in Close Combat (or at least knock down 4-5 wounds.) Plus keep in mind he is 1000 Points and you get a victory point for killing him. He's tough, but he's pretty balanced IMO.

Thats right, they have Runic weapons not force weapons, so they can get Str 7 with Iron Arm. My point still stands.

AFAIK, the only time MCs get a "bonus" is for JotWW in which case the power specifically states that.

Are GC a subset of infantry because if not, JotWW can't do anything to them anyway.

If you are jumping on the Dinobot meme bandwagon regarding the new Warhammer 40k Chaos models, grow the feth up!

Even if it could target them it cannot remove them, only inflict D3 (I think) Wounds.

That is my point. If they cannot even be targetted by JotWW this whole topic is pointless as you would not even get the d3 wounds.

Apart from the AP2 part, which is the key part - wounding on 6s allowing an armour save...

So regular SM Libby's then, they can get S8 AP2 with force axe and Iron Arm, and D3 wounds per wound could still kill it even from 1 SM Libby...
