Greetings, Dakka-ites! I wanted to share the army I've been taking to tournaments this year. I ran it at Quake City Rumble in San Francisco several weeks ago and went 0-4-1 (because Lord choices are helpful to Vampire Counts, and I refused to take any), but picked up their Best Army and Player's Choice awards. I will be taking it to Bayou Battles in Houston next month, with a revamped list and a focus more on winning a game or two than drinking excessive quantities of fermented barley.
I themed the army off the Army of Darkness, from the Evil Dead franchise, mostly because I just wanted an excuse to throw Bruce Campbell quotes at my opponents.
I've not had success linking to Dakka Galleries before, so I beg your indulgence if I do so incorrectly. If anyone is interested in seeing more of my work, I can be found over at http://www.thebeerwaaagh.blogspot.com/. If you're inspired to rate any of them, the Dakka gallery is here.

The army, set up in my kitchen the night before I packed it. The large windmill in the center is a Terrorgheist, and is motorized.

A close-up of the detail on the Terrorgheist. The blades have a 1/16" gap between their x-y axis and his wing, and I have to keep an eye on them when they spin to make sure there's no wobble - if there is, it starts to chip paint. They're also removable for travel.

Vargheists, which I listed as "flying Deadites". I had some spare Empire models sitting around, so decided to do these as kind of a diorama piece, with the gunshots source lighting the Vargheists.

No Army of Darkness would be complete without Ash. I ran him as a Vampire with the Rod of Flaming Death at QCR, but at Bayou he'll get Lord Status, upgrades, and a Coven Throne.

The Deathcoaster. It was engraved from 1/16" balsa wood using a laser engraver. At QCR I ran it as a Black Coach, but it turns out that when I'm drinking, I tend to forget to roll for it during my magic phase, so it never got powered up. At Bayou, I'll be running it as a Coven Throne, which means Ash can ride on the top.

The Black Knights. I feared the army theme was just a tad too subtle, so the freehand banner is intended to beat the viewer over the head with the army theme.

The army, as set up at Quake City Rumble. The windmill blades are blurry because they're spinning.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I was cranking the army out as quickly as I could, so I didn't take pictures of much of it at all until everything was finished. I'm correcting that for my next army: here's a WiP alternate Hellcannon

This is honestly one of the coolest armies I've seen. I bought a vampire counts book just incase I ever chose to get into Fantasy. Sadly, mom trashed that fine hardback 'cult'ex.
I'm jaw dropped, sickest thing I've seen.

This is by far the coolest undead army of all time. Your work is awesome. Where is the Ash model from, or is it a conversion? Close-ups of Ash would be appreciated.

I particularly liked the Evil Dead standard and the Vargheists attacking the Empire cavalry. Brilliant stuff. Keep it up.

Cheers

Did you sculpt Ash from scratch, or use a "not-ash" miniature from somewhere?

I tried sculpting my own, but I messed up the proportions and he ended up being about 36mm instead of 28mm. Ash is actually Oakley from Hasslefree Miniatures. I also used Cole from Studio Miniatures as the Ash Who's Tied Down By Miniature Ashes.

Deadites! This is far far too awesome. The idea of that windmill moving around a game board puts a huge grin on my face.

Can I please see some pics of the mini ashes.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

This is why I love looking at Fantasy GT armies more than 40K GT armies. The standard always seems so much higher with armies like this that just takes it to another level.

Fantastic army all around. Thanks for sharing.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Alright you Primitive Screwheads, listen up! You see this? This...is an army!

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Very impressive army with lots of characterful coversions. I really like Ash (as far as I can see, you shuld have posted up close pictures of him). Can you post more pictures of your core troops?

Thanks for all the kind comments! I'll address a few of the questions I hadn't answered yet, then dump some more pictures on you.
@Dez: Issuing challenges with Ash is one of the best parts of this army.
@gunslingerpro: The absence of an Evil Ash is my only regret about the army. I had hoped to sculpt him in as a champion for the Black Knights, but he really needs to be a character choice. I have an armature set up for him, I just haven't had the time to do it yet. I might come back and do so in the next few months and just run him in a store tournament. This army (as run at Quake City) will probably become the Ringer army for the Alamo GT in San Antonio, so there's still incentive to do it!
@Oaka: I took a ridiculously soft list to Quake City Rumble so that I'd focus on the drinking part! My list for Bayou should be a bit harder, and will hopefully get me two or three beer-induced wins. I always offer to buy my opponents beer as well - being a perfect tournament opponent is what I aim for!
@Tommy: Ash is from Hasslefree Miniatures.

Now, some pictures!

Ash riding the Deathcoaster (as a Vampire Lord on a Coven Throne)

The Necronomicon (a Mortis Engine) and Wiseman John (a Necromancer)

A base of miniature Ashes (Spirit Host), with a captive.

A unit of Skeleton Warriors with the Screaming Banner

Another unit of Skeleton Warriors.

Two units of Deadites (Zombies), one with Evil Sheila riding along.

The backs of the three characters - Ash, Evil Sheila, and Wiseman John.

The Vargheists, with some source lighting coming off the Empire guns, and a few different angles.
