Hey All!

Had a little time today back on the Mach!

Finally found parts for the Vulkan barrels when i was having a wander around Halfords...... their fittings and fixtures area is a real treasure trove... anyway..... i got some 3mm pipe fittings and cut them up and think they are pretty good scale wise!

Gone with a 5 barrel option and sat the pipe fitings on some small metal washers. Put the whole thing together and IMHO its good!

Thats all for just now...... back to work tomorrow but got a couple of days off to get more done this week i hope!

Also..... with my Battle Canons and Turret Plate from Blood & Skulls.... the first lot have been lost in the maelstrom of the US - UK postal network! Although.... i contacted Machinator and he was really cool and helpful and has dispatched a second lot which should be here soon! Got to admit... these things happen and it has in no way affected my thoughts about ordering with him again.... these things happen!

Comments and critique always welcome!

Cheers All!

Ahoy All!!

FINALLY GOT SOME PAINT!!

Unfortunately the rain put an end to any dreams of major work but i managed to get a coat of primer on the Vulcan Turret!

Being a noob to the world of painting and spray painting especially... i think i went a bit too heavy with the primer.. but am pretty happy with the end result.... it looks tied together and the details are still nicely visable....

Next... i took a spare part of plasticard and had an attempt at salt weathering...... with DISASTEROUS consequences.... to be honest i think i put too much rock salt peices on... and it ended up looking horrid and well out of scale.... The pictures shown are of my second attempt with a lot less rock salt pieces........ This finish is goin to be the "Undercoat" of the tank. I have a grey paint that i am going to apply over "another" layer of Salt Weathering after i seal the base coat in matt varnish. I dont know how it is going to go...... but i am going to use hairspray instead of water to stick the salt to the panel....
Then i am going to add a spare decal to the panel to see how i am going to weather that also........

Anyways, comments and and critique is always welcome! Cheers All

That turret looks great, as does the rest of the tank.
I've seen the rock salt technique done before but never tried it myself, It'll be interesting to see how it looks on the finished model.

I'm with hk1x1 and Camkierhi, turret look great - I still haven't tried the salt weathering, but will do at some point so always happy to see others experiment and passing on their tips and experience

magos...if the colors would be swappable...then you´d be golden...the effect looks convincing...maybe you could still use this to your advance?... more salt now on the red areas and respray it?...

primed turret looks cool!

Hey all......

Got the turret salted and painted with 2 coats today....... with a rather excessive result!!

First... added salt and then the red coat.
rubbed off the salt and then added another salt layer.
oversprayed with the grey finish and removed the second salt layer.
went in with a toothpick and attempted to add some scratches and bring out the panel edges......

Like i said i think it is a little too extreme and i have gone over the top... but for a first attempt i am happy.....

I am going to go back in with some grey and sponge on more to finish it off....

Also an important fact i will remember is that hairspray is much better to work with than water...... the fine spray sits easier on the model and doesnt stay in large droplets like the water did...... just an observation....

Any comments would be great guys... and any input on how i might improve this would be great.... Like i said... lot of detail still to add and going to fill out the grey finish a bit.... then its decals etc...

Cheers guys!!

Mostly, on my phone.

Generally pretty nice, suitably uneven. I would consider lightly drybrushing/sponging metalics on, especially where the white is exposed. Great job though.

Hey mate! Thanks for the tips! Will definetly get the sponge out when i get back to it! Will get over those edges! Got to admit it looks a lot darker in the pics than in "realife" i will need to get it under a stronger lamp for more pics!

Really appreciate the input!

Ahoy me hearty's!!

Had a second go at the Vulcan turret...... when i looked at it again it really looked too random and really overdone..... so.... i got the grey paint out again and put a coat over all the detail......

Scraped off a little of the leftover salt....... and then got out an old sponge and ripped off a corner. With some of my paint in a little ramakin.. i went about the edges of the turret with firstly the rudt red and then tried to really highlight it with the lighter grey.....

IMHO it is a lot better than the previous attempt.... just looks more convincing to me..... any thoughts?

Also.... the last pic is my "test sheet" and i have added a decal and had a go at it with a cocktail stick to see if i can achieve some basic weathering on that also.....

Nice, and actually the white decals balance out the white-ish hull elements. Sweet!

Hey guys! Just arrived at work..... and my Widowmaker Cannons and Turret Mounting Plate have arrived!!!!

I know it shouldnt... but i thought it deserved its own post because i am over the moon! Great pieces and cannot wait to get them attached when i get home!

Thanks to Machinator @ Blood and Skulls for sending out a second batch after the first were lost in the warp! Great pieces and would certainly use the services again!

Hey all.......

Ok... For this turret i have tried to learn from the vulcan and hold back slightly on the severity of the weathering.....

First a light layer of fine salt was applied randomly and then the primer..... i feel this gave a nice texture.... next was the grey over colour... and then straight in with the red sponge and grey sponge to finish..... IMHO i think its looking a lot better!

AND THOSE GUNS!!!!! I was thinking they would be main battle canon but seeing them mounted they are quite easily passible as vanquishers i think!

I will have another go at the salting on the Crassus when i get round to it... or even on the Mach hull...... but i think for a first time.... the base layer of salt and then sponging was a better option for me!

Would love to hear your comments chaps... i really do appreciate them all,

cheers & Thanks.....

Hi All..... Real quick update.... unfortunately going to be the last for a little while.... some family issues....

But got some more salt on the hull... and got it primed and then the grey coat..........

Added some gouges and scratches along the hull but the terrible out of focus pics dont really do it justice!

Cheers guys!

My best wishes in regards to your family issues.
Though quite blurry the progress looks very good.
I have to admit I'm still afraid using the salt technique for fear of lacking control.
Cheers Mate

Hey all... thanks so much for the best wishes....

I had another look at the Mach paintwork... and although happy with the textures and the light grey scratches and chips.... the rusty red was just too deep in colour.... because i had added it after the grey.... so i decided to go back and go over the whole model with the grey overcoat........ got to say there are some teep textures coming through and my pictures dont really do them justice..... i am going to go back in with the light grey sponge and redo the chips.... and then decals... some dirt and thats it! It has been a learning curve for my first model and paintjob... but i have another couple in the pipeline i can try out the salting again and another red rust etc...

Cheers guys,,, any questions or comments as always are well recieved!
