Subject: Scratch Building.... a first adventure into the unknown....
Camkierhi wrote:Sorry been a while, everything is looking brilliant.
Your barracade is looking excellent. Nice mix of stuff.
I say finish these then if you have time do some more. But at least when you have these done you have something in the comp. With your standard of painting lately this has an excellent chance.
Thanks my man! Very much appreciated comments! Yeh... time to get some paint on these ones this evening and then I can look to put some more together if there's a little time left...
OneManNoodles wrote:Great looking barricade so far, hk1x1's bricks?
the water looks ... very ... bloody? Looks like it is working well anyway. I guess you have to have it a little thin it does run off everywhere.
Well spotted sir..... yes indeed hk1x1 bricks.... got to say they are pretty superb and very versatile.... solid enough to build with but soft enough to add some interesting damage etc...
I know what you mean about the bloody water... I have left if longer now and the red colour has died down a bit... will post up some finished pics this evening.... Thanks for looking in mate!
Elnibbus wrote: Damn fine stuff Magos, very realistic looking scenery there!
Thanks mate! I appreciate it.... next step is to get them totally finished... lol.... trench is done..... but got the river crossing and comp piece to do....
Ahoy all! Slow but steady progress... I got the first part of the wall painted last night..... really light cover of grey to let the roughness of the material come through and then a couple of thin coffee and dirt washes...... needs a couple more but I like the way it heading... and added some bullet holes and scrapes and scratches to the corrugate steel... just used a small nail for the holes and then sponged lightly in a couple shades of gret and rust colours......
Littletower wrote:Wall is looking nice, like where it is going. The corrugated sheet is spot on!
Camkierhi wrote:Wall is coming on nicely. At the moment the corrugated steel is a bit bright, but I am guessing you are going to sort that anyways.
Thanks guys... I appreciate all the comments!
Cam... yes indeed the metal will be dulled a little... but not to much as I want to go for a constantly updated and rebuilt barricade.... new parts and old.... whatever can be found!
Got the first section of wall finished tonight... added another wash and then added some grime and some scratches and a little damage.
Also got a first layer of ground cover done... going to differentiate between behind the barricade and in front of it by changing the texture to be flatter and more worn. Anyways....... progress and I am on target!
"Take cover!" the sgt yelled as the patrol he lead ran into opposition fire-power, several took position behind a wall from an old building, rather what was left of it, mixed with some metal trash and spikes, as long as it stopped the enemy rifle fire hitting them, who cared what it looked like? solid cover was always welcomed by a guardsman caught in a fire-fight like this.

Exactly!! just the thoughts I have for this! Even have a couple of guardsmen doing just that in my pics over on the LoER comp page!

Superb work. This is the sort of thing I wanted to try on my aircraft bases (when I get around to it!). Do you just message Mr. hk1x1 for packs of bricks?

Wee update this evening.... mostly just trying to keep going with the LoER comp! Finished my 2 pieces of corrugated metal..... 2 differant colour schemes to try and portray their scavanged from diferant areas amd things! Added some imperial markings as a little nod to their previous uses....
Onward to paint the timber and sandbags next and then its the steel barels and chain link fence and it is potentially finished!
Sitting here having a little think about the new year and what I want to get into and head towards with regards to the hobby here..... (waffle alert)
Spoiler:
So I am actually considering buying a couple of pieces to create some dioramas with and have as a little display case in my study room at home.... I'm not 100% sure what they are going to be yet but I am tempted with the new Dracosan Armoured Transport and definitely a unit or 2 of Death Korp. Along side that I really like the look of the Centaur Tractor and Thud Gun models..... so definitely a couple of muddy and chaotic battle dioramas to be had in there.... Also I have been working on detailing up a full Macharius tank in 3d.... (My own variant) ..... and think I might be looking to have one 3d printed at some point....
This being the case, I am going to be left with all the bits and bobs I have been working on and creating over the last year or so.... and this seems like a bit of a waste to me as I don't play the game and in truth don't really have any space or any where to display them.
I'm not really a kind of guy and really see these pieces as stepping stones in helping to improve my modelling & painting skills. For me the joy is in the actual building of a model and the painting etc... seeing it come together from basic card pieces to a 3d model so I after I have finished and then taken the pictures I'm not really that attached to them. Don't get me wrong... I am happy and quite proud of some of the pieces I have done so far and have really enjoyed making them but like I said I am quickly running out of space.
So, that being said, If anyone is interested, I will be offering some of my previous works to either swapsies or a small fee.... (basically postage & something toward my next pieces)...
"O'le Toothless Malcador Supply Tank"
"Estoc Fast Assault Carrier with Spartan Autogun System"
A rusted burned out rhino on dirt base terrain piece (90% finished)
A crashed and destroyed Land Speeder on a dirt base terrain piece (90% finished)
LoER 12 Barricade competition piece (When I have finished it)
Just have a look through my gallery and if there is anything you like the look of please PM me and I will get back to you and let you know if it is available..
Basically, anything I have finished... lol.... apart from my Mk1 Macarius which I am definetly going to finish and put in its own little diorama!
Like I said.. these are going to be looking for new homes and if anyone is interested please PM me... Probably best just to keep it in the UK as its not worth looking to send them further afield as postage would be too much. If not..... no worries..... they will be boxed and sat in the loft....
Any and all sensible.. and non sensible offers would be cool!
Phew.... glad I got all that out! haha....if anyone read it all... well done! Nice just to brain fart now and again! haha!
Oh.... meant to add... I also fancy having a unit of pre heresy marines... either Emperors Children / World eaters or death Guard.... on a wee dio also.... so am scouring eBay as we speak to find a Mk2 or 3 marine to use as my guinea pig! MUAH HA HA!
Cheers All,
Automatically Appended Next Post: One last thing.... I am sure this will just auto append anyway..... but.. I am going to carry on with the scratch building for sure but really want to just have one at a time and really concentrate on them.... after the LoER comp... I have my Mk1 Macharius to finish... and then I was thinking of something different and going for the Spartan Assault Tank! ..... just thought I would add that!

hey mate! Thanks very much! Really appreciated from yourself!
And yes... don't worry.. my Mk1 Macharius is going to be "just rolled off the production line" crisp and clean! .... well.. maybe one campaign old... Im actually looking forward to it! And I think the Spartan... once started will be along the same lines... almost a Mk1 version.... lots of rivits and an Emperors Children Paint Job..... I just decided!
Well, I have fimished the LoER competition piece.
I have gone for a ramshackle arrangememt of a patched up wall with sandbags and some other bits and bobs... basically anything the defenders could get their hands on!
The competition rules stated the piece needed to be more than one part that could be used together or apart.
As you will see... the 2 parts can be used as either 2 seperate parts or together in either a line or a cormer unit. The brick work will tie together. Added some other details to show the rough and random building work.
Would love some C&C! And fingers crossed for the competition.
Thanks my friend! I appreciate it!
And just want to say happy Christmas and have a great new year to all! Away to family tomorrow until after new year.
That is a wall I would love to play battle or 10 with!
