Is it bad if my army has no real color scheme? It's chaos so it's not like I have any reason to scheme them together. They're all just rebels from various chapters and whatnot. I just pick a model up, and paint it how I think it looks the coolest or just different

Not at all, my csm army contains iron warriors, black legion, emperors children, plague marines, berserkers and red corsairs. All with different paint schemes. iI just tie them together by basing them all up in a similar way.

But for me, even my unit of chosen contains a dark angel color scheme, a couple of red guys, a white guy and a black legion...it's not that my army has no scheme, but even my units are rag-tag

Its your army so paint it how you like. Almost every faction has tales of ragged bands of survivors teaming up and sticking it to the enemy. Chaos is easier than most to get away with it though. It would be good to see pics as well if course

red corsairs are known for they're rag tag appearance, just check the fluff. most still wear their old chapter colours.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting
Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Every unit always has that "white guy"
But in all seriousness, it doesn't matter what the colour scheme is as long as it doesn't look horrible. Besides, the different colour schemes give personality to every model, and all space marines are individual "mini-heroes".
I'd love to see some pictures.

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

I've always wanted to make an army of differently colored marines. Sadly I think they'll look too Power Rangers-y, or look like candy.

Boosting Ultramarine Biker
|
This is a really neat idea...I'm currently starting Ultramarines and over the years have collected/painted Blood Angels, Dark Angels, etc. The fluff behind a "band of chaos marine survivors" makes absolute sense. Are we in general agreement that the same could be done with loyalists? I'm thinking of a squad of Imperial Fists, a squad of Blood Angels, a squad of Ultramarines, etc. Rules-wise, I'd use generic Space Marine rules (Ultramarines), so the only thing "out of the ordinary" would be the mix of different chapters. Same fluff story, a bunch of survivors banding together for one last fight. Thoughts? Not to mention it avoids the inevitable problem of getting bored painting an individual army because the paint scheme gets too repitious.

Sounds like a good idea and stops you having to paint the same thing repeatedly. My recommendation would be to tie them together by basing them very similarly.
Maybe also give them all one shoulder pad with the same colour and symbol on it so they have that one thing showing they are all in it together.

Boosting Ultramarine Biker

I like that idea, carlos13th! So far I have a 2500 point list planned. 1 Tactical Squad w/ Rhino painted as Ultramarines 1 Tactical Squad w/ Rhino painted as Imperial Fists 1 Tactical Squad w/ Rhino painted as Blood Ravens 1 Sternguard Squad w/ Drop Pod painted as White Scars 2 Attack Bike Squads, 1 painted as Blood Angels, the other White Scars 2 Shooty Dreadnaughts painted as Grey Knights (These are already painted from my Grey Knight Army) The icing on the cake will be Cato Sicarius with an honor squad. Each member of the honor squad will represent the chapters in the list- 1 Blood Angel, 1 Ultramarine, 1 White Scar, 1 Imperial Fist, 1 Blood Raven Chapter color choices aren't final, but I think it fits nicely with an interesting back story and will be a blast to paint. No more getting tired of painting Ultramarines Blue! All models will be based the same (using what I already have on my Ultramarines, Cork bases with grass on top- old school GW style).
