So, The current fluff and allies chart aren't exactly what i grew up with. So with that in mind, here is the allies chart as i figure it should have been. This is purely from a fluff standpoint not a balance standpoint. Let me know your thought, questions and or suggestions please!

Edit: Updated to new version.

Ugh, always hated the chart with the symbols because I can never remember what half of them are.

Biggest issue IMO with allies is that you cannot ally with your own codex. That gives a massive advantage to say, a Space Marine player who wants a fourth Heavy slot, and craps all over someone like Orks if they want the same thing (without Forgeworld of course). I reckon either allow alliances with your own codex, or cause allied units to take up slots from your main force org.

I realize that the space wolves have had disagreements with both the dark angels and the grey knights, but when it comes down to battle, there is no reason for them to not be battle brothers. They are fighting for the same cause and would be glad to die in the emperors name together.

Grey knights dont have battle brothers, not even sisters of battle despite beeing inquisition to. thats just how they roll. I believe the old fluff was that when you took them with imperial guard they would just KILL THEM ALL or mindwipe them afterwards so the GK could pretend they were never there. GK''s are by and far outside of the normal imperial channels. Everyone is allies of convenience to them or worse. Thats how it should be to me.

Edit: Like i said, going by the old fluff that i am used to, necrons were just metal tyranids that killed everything, no exceptions. Necrons shouldn't be able to ally.

Yeah I guess you're right about the grey knights and sisters of battle. But I do feel space wolves and dark angels should be battle brothers

Why are you using the old fluff to give rules to the new 'crons?

For tau I think you should change the chaos forces so that daemons are come the apocalypse and CSM are desperate allies since there is no way in hell that daemons would ally with anything not fighting the chaos gods. On the other hand Dark eldar could be allies of conveniance since tau don't know the differance between dark eldar and craftworld eldar and there is even fluff telling about Urien arakarth allying with the tau to combat the tyranids

IIRC in the BT codex it says they don't mind the GK for allies. Unless I'm going off an older codex which is a possibility.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

This is... somehow worse? Balance-wise, at least, Guard are still incredible allies for everybody and xenos are mainly still shafted. It ignores the new fluff for Necrons (which I do admittedly hate,) and makes playing certain armies even worse while giving few improvements.
Meh.

This is even worse.

Necrons as CtA for everyone is a BS. In tyhe new fluff 'crons are as arrogant and prud as Eldar, though not stupid, so they would ally with aeveryone and everything to rerach their goals. Some of the overlords even could go so far to NOT backstab their allies after their common foe was exterminated, because many of the Necron nobles value honor, honesty and other noblebright stuff.

And one again no BB for IG-Tau to represent Gue'Vesa regiments

Orks as AoC with Tau while Grenskin being all but the nemesis of the Empire wasn't fixed to DA/CtA.

Eldar and EE as DA is again against the fluff, as they might figt as one to secure webway portals and other things that matter a lot for both Eldar subspecies. And besides craftworlders sees dark brethren as spoiled and depraved, and commorites see them as weak and narrow-minded, even "improper" Eldar is still Eldar, and therefore 9000 times better than any Mon-Keigh scum

I don't know about fluff per se, but rules-wise BT cannot ally with psykers, except Grey Knights.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

What would be good would instead of the two sides of the chart being mirror images of each other, that there is a difference between primary and secondary attachments.

Say imperial guard primary taken as loyalist because it the main army are come the apocalypse or desperate allies with a chaos space marines secondary.

But If chaos space marines are the primary then imperial guard are battle brothers to represent renegade forces.

Or would that be too confusing?

That would be realy cool, and I don't think it would be overly confusing and neither does GW as they did the allies chart in Betrayal for the legions tht way

I like IG moving to Battlebros with CSM to represent traitor guard.

I dont understand why Eldar and DE are not Battlebros. Eldar are an extremely arrogant race and will stick together with their blood before they go bringing in outsiders.

I would also make CSM and C:SM battle bros to represent renegade chapters.

Thats what I am saying, different options for primary/secondary forces.

Primary codex space marines, secondary CSM are desperate allies

But if CSM is primary then C: SM are battle brothers, to represent renegades.

Purely based on fluff, I think that Necrons would have a greater selection of allies than they currently do in the BRB. From a Necron point of view, it really doesn't matter who they ally with as long they get some benefit out of it.

Of course (Dark) Eldar and Tyranids (and maybe daemons) should probably still be CTA, but imperial armies could easily be allies of convenience.

Uhg, I hate it when I have to explain that Eldar and Dark Eldar don't hate each other. So I will make it easy for me, they don't hate each other. There is a reason they are battle brothers, because they are allies as often as they are enemies, if not more so. I can provide you with a whole list of times they have worked together (I did it for a former thread about the same thing) which has only grown since the new eldar codex came out, further reinforcing there decision to make them battle brothers with a Siam-am army allying with Dark eldar to root imperials off a maiden world, or Il-Kaithe readily allying with them to fight off chaos. Think of it there way, who would you rather work with, A staving angry baboon which will likely claw your face off as much as do what you want it to (Every other race) or your weird cousin who sits in his basement and masturbates all day, in a life or death situation. I know which I would choose. They should be battle brothers, full stop.

How abbout to read the thread before making comments? They represent traitor guard regiments. You would be surprised, how often Imperial Guardsmen switch sides if they get left for dead by their high command.

fully agreed.

CWE and DE are family.
Both sides like to exclude the other from the family tree when talking about how great they are but when put up against a wall they come together.

you mean that neither DE or CWE would fight with 'crons right? They know who the crons are, they remember how awful it was the last time, they will never work with them.

The closest they have got to being friendly with the Old 'Crons is simply avoiding the heck outta them 'cause they where too crunchy and some absurd fan theory that the hive mind is in fact the outsider.

can humans talk to bacon?

nids not being able to ally with anyone is fluffy, it's too bad that they're the only ones that got ruined by the fluff. the fact that orks can ally with almost everyone, and that some of them are happy to do so, like t'au, is silly. I'd have had orks as desperate allies to everyone except chaos - chaos also being happy to just go kill things, offer the orks anything they want, etc which most other armies wouldn't do - necrons i can't see allying with orks, and hell if i know why they can ally with t'au... "are you for the greater good? why yes, we want to eradicate all life in the galaxy. oh, welcome aboard!"... that conversation didn't happen.

space marines should really have a simple filter: chaos & evil xenos scum, xenos scum and imperial. being come the apocalypse, desperate and battle bros, in that order. xenos scum would be eldar and t'au, who you could maybe accept fighting with space marines in the event that they find themselves both fighting the same enemy, and agree not to shoot each other until the enemie's dead.

Again, Tyranids at lest should have some IG and Ork allies at least to represent a genecult-infestated regiments and bug-boyz.
