Games Workshop has restocked the nine Edge Paints. They are Direct Only.

I really like the six I already own and will definitely buy the other three now that they are again available. I've found them very useful for blending really bright highlights.

Citadel Edge

Personally requested by the 'Eavy Metal team, the Citadel Edge Paints have been developed to help give your miniatures a final sharp, bright highlight. The paints possess the same formulation as the Citadel Layer Paints, but with a much lighter shade to help and you can use them alongside the rest of the Citadel Paint range.

Has anyone got photos of how these come out?

I was looking to get some before they went, and might have to pop into GW to get a demo.

They don't stock the Edge Paints in GW stores, they are Direct Only.

I really like the Edge Paints, they have enhanced my painting already. I used the Blue to help highlight the wings on my Chimera (see my Dakkadakka Gallery and the photo below). I also used the Green and the Flesh colors for highlights on my Burning Chariot Of Tzeentch.

Are they just standard layer paints with a bit of white added?

Pretty much. They're just basically premixed for matching with the other colours in the layer range.

It's a range of pastels. I'd even go so far as to say they're potentially more useful as a source of consistent pastel shades for base coats than top-layer edging.

Pretty much. I'm just wondering why it is so hard for people to make their own highlight colors. Has GW outlawed mixing paints or something?

For me, it's uniformity.
If I can dip into a pot and get the same colour every time, I'd prefer to do that than hope I remember the ration I used last time.

Some people really like not mixing paint. I know Reaper and Foundry both do three colour triads meant to eliminate the need (even if they still recommend mixing between those shades for a smoother transition).

A friend of mine hates mixing paint because he doesn't trust himself to replicate the colour again. I recommended switching to a dropper bottle based paint line like Vallejo or Reaper and then simply writing down the recipe in terms of drops of each colour used.

It's about mixing for me. I don't want to have to muck around with getting exact volumes correct, and even with droppers it's not quite perfect (I find that some of my VMCs come out of the bottle a lot easier than others, and it's not always entirely consistent.) I'd rather have two premixed colors that I can work with, and then do some on the fly blending/mixing for transitions. Frankly, at $3 or $4 for a pot, I value the time it would take to get the color mixed up higher than the money it costs to just buy the dang paint.

The next time I place an order with GW direct (which probably won't be until they do a LE thing I want) I might pick some of these up as I do love pastels. That said I may just stick with VMC since I mainly like using GW paints for straight-from-the-pot type painting while when I do pastels I tend to be painting like a big boy and thinning my paint.

Pretty sure I addressed that very thing in the post two above yours. Extending your logic above, we shouldn't need more than 3 colours plus black and white, anyway.

I've got the full boxed set, including the super special secret squirrel Eavy Metal Brush. I have barely used them for edge highlights, as, unlike the Reaper Triads, I've found their tone to be a little off.

I mainly bought them for my Daemons, which has been my main painting focus this year, specifically for Horrors and Daemonettes. The pink is a much colder tone than Horror Pink (or whatever its called, the one that's like Tentacle Pink used to be) and doesn't really sit right to my eye, even done at the very extreme edges. The Lilac doesn't sit well on the daemonettes as it is much less grey than the other paints in that range, and a little bit too blue (I'm not happy with my daemonette recipe anyway yet, so it might not be all the paint's problem)

I have used them as base colours for my counts as fiends

I'm very happy with how they've turned out.

Overall I've found the reaper triads to be a much closer and more natural fit with one another than these, but they are no means useless.

I was quite lucky, I had a horrible experience with a French seller on the first one, sold as NIB, when it arrived it had been stripped and wasn't in the right box (not a dealbreaker, but paid more for it than I perhaps would have done) but afterwards got the other four from a German guy properly NIB for a sensible price with sensible shipping, so the whole unit was only just over £10 per model. Considering new Fiends from GW are currently £15.50 I consider them an absolute bargain considering they're years OOP and like hens teeth.

I originally intended them as hounds, but when the new codex dropped, couldn't face tracking down another 15! So I repurposed them, and I think they work nicely.

So I placed an order for the three Edge Paints I didn't already own last Wednesday. Today I got an email from GW Customer Service telling me one or more items I ordered are out of stock even though they just announced these paints are back in stock. Supposedly, it won't be in till about September 27 according to the email. It appears that most or all of the Edge Paints are on the list. Why is GW misleading us with a banner on their website and emails saying these paints are back in stock if they are not?

They sent me an extensive list of items that are out of stock at the moment showing much more than just the paint I ordered. Here it is if you're interested. the dates are when items are expected to come back in stock.

Just a thought reading that list - if the specialist games are dead, why do they have them listed as out of stock with a restock date? If they were truly dead, why are they still making the models?

I guess I got lucky and had my FLGS put an order into GW for the paints when I got the email they were going to be in stock a week ago. I picked mine up on Sunday. Now that I'm seeing 7 of them are out for a couple of weeks... I guess they may go up on eBay

Stock is by region, so if there is demand for epic models in North America, and stock sitting around unsold in Europe, they will transfer some of the Europe stock over to NA thus restocking them.
